  1. I was at a local Farm and Home store today. They had a new Mossberg Patriot in a molded stock for $219. plus tax. The only choice in caliber was 243 Win. I didn't have a 243 so it was a win / win. I hade a Nectstar 3x9x40 rubberized scope just sitting around looking for a home. Bam mounted and bore sighted in 10 minuets.

My daughter has a 243 so I already reload for it. I have some 85 grain Speer hot core and 100 grain Rem core lock bullets on hand. I will be working loads soon.

All the reviews I have read on these rifles have been positive so I think I got a deal.

  2. My Dad's last surviving brother (uncle Bob) just gave me my Grandpa's Savage 340 in 30-30. Long story short. I have been helping him with some reloading for a few months now. Lots of fun talking hunting and shooting. Anyway He says to me on Sunday "hey I've got a gun you haven't seen before." He pulls a cased rifle out of his safe and opens it. Before he can say anything I say "wow a Savage 340." I knew Savage over Stevens because of the bolt handle. "I've always wanted one of these. If you want to sell it let me know." He standing there shocked and says. "That's your Grandpa's rifle." He passed away on Aug 8th,1972. He say's he wouldn't sell for any Money. But because I was named after him I should have it. He puts the rifle back in the case and hand it to me. This rifle hasn't been shot in at least 45 years. I am super stoked to have this rifle. I've already told my son (Ralph 4)it's his. I know what I'll deer hunt with this year. I'll post some pictures soon. Ralph

Kind of makes up for last Thursday.

  3. Well after 12 years and 10 months with Bed Bath and beyond my position was eliminated. They fires 900 Department and Asst. Managers in 1 day. I was expecting something like this and was already looking. They blamed Amazon and E-commerce. The problem is top heavy in management above store level and out mode return policy. The only up side is I got 11 weeks severance and medical. I'll keep you guys posted.

PS see my post on my Grandpa's Savage 340.

  4. 1+on joining the NRA. I rejoined on 9 years ago. As a side, Dana Loesch is from St. Louis. I met het several times at Tea Party events. She is a great voice for 2A and conservative causes, but she is a never Trumper. It got her booted off her home radio station here in StL. She would spend her whole show literally yelling at her listeners about how Trump was the wrong candidate. I quit listening to her because she was so negative. Ralph

  5. A+ to that. The City of St. Louis is in the process of removing a Confederate memorial from Forest Park, the home of the 1904 Worlds Fair. This memorial has been vandalized several times over the years. The new mayor, a white female super liberal is pushing it's removal. There has been recent protests for it's removal. All were organized and lead by a white gay male. Most of the protests are attended white liberal guiltiest holding "black lives matter" signs. The memorial will be taken down and put into storage. The Missouri Civil War Museum is trying to raise the funds ($100K ) to buy and re-exhibit it. Many black leaders say this isn't what's needed right now. The City of St. Louis has a black on black murder rate that is out of control and this is the issue that tax dollars and resources are going to. Enough is enough of this B.S. also.

  6. A long story as short as possible. When I was 12 (1974) I worked all summer cutting grass. I earned enough money to have my parents buy me a Mossberg 500 shotgun. Back then it came with a "Select-A-Choke" 26" barrel. This shotgun has kill countless Squirrels, Rabbits, Quail, Turkeys and lots of targets.

I've had it wrapped in cammo. bow tape for about 30 years. This past Turkey season I got caught in a day long rain. The bow tape peeled off. It left a crusty dried up residue. The barrel and receiver were easy to get cleaned up. The stock and pump were a different story. Nothing would remove the old adhesive. I finally had to use a chemical stripper. It took off the adhesive but the finish also. So now do I refinish the wood or paint the whole shotgun with a cammo paint job? It will be my go to Turkey gun either way. I have several other shotguns. I just kind of feel like the hard work it took to buy this one makes it special. So what would you guys do? Cammo or Not Cammo?

  7. Hi Jim, I haven't fished the Mississippi in years. I usually fish the Missouri in the St. Charles area. Other than that I'll go to Mark Twain Lake or Thomas Hill Reservoir. I wish I could help. Good Luck. Ralph

  8. Thanks for the heads up Sailormilan2. I already have a 243 with a Douglas med. weight sporter in the works. I still don't know what I want to do with the bolt. I have been looking at some options on Gun Broker. There are a few complete rifles minus the bolt. I may still just sell off the bolt, haven't really decided what to do. Ralph

  9. I have spent about 3 hours prepping cases to load some 5.56. My neighbor, a retired Hazelwood MO cop gave me 2 @ 5gal. buckets of once fired lake city brass. The local Graffs store had Hornady 55gr for $48 per 500. I bought 2k and 4# of ar-comp. I forgot what time it takes to prep mil. spec. brass. I have deprimed, swaged and cleaned the primer pockets, re-sized, champhered and de-burred 1k cases. They are on in the case tumbler for a few hours. I have a Dillon 550 so loading them is the shortest part of the operation. I never re-size rifle brass on my Dillon. I rather do that on my RCBS. I'll try to load a few hundred a night on the next week. Looking to have so AR 15 and 10 fun next weekend. Ralph

  10. I was cleaning and organizing my "shop / work bench" today. I started by putting all upcoming build into their own separate box's. I have the makings for a 243 Win, 30-06 and 7x57 Mauser. When I was finished there was a Yugo M48 bolt extra. I bought a sportered bolt from a member of another forum a few years ago. I thought I sold this bolt on eBay afterwards. Now do I try to find a Yugo receiver / bottom metal for another build or just sell off the extra bolt? Ralph

  11.

Not that I care about foos-ball, but the Rams were an L.A. team first. They moved to St. Louis, if I recall, because L.A. would not build them a new coliseum. They probably sucked then too.

Yes they were an L.A. team first. I remember Johnny Carson making jokes about how bad they were in the 1970's. When they moved to STL they were owned by Georga Fontiear. A STL girl. She inherited the team from her husband. Kronkey bought the team after she dies. He "promised" the fans in STL he would "always" keep the Rams in town. He's just dirt and I'm being nice with that description of him.
  12. I've been Boycotting Walmart and the NFL for a year now. Stan Kronkey ( a Walmart and Rams owner ) screwed St. Louis for a lot of money by moving the Rams to L.A. I guess the real joke is on L.A. The Rams suck more there than they did here. Ralph

  13. I'm a shipping and receiving manager for a major retailer, bed bath beyond. Don't laugh guy, if I were single it would be the best pick up line ever. Every Woman I tell that to says "I love that store". Anyway, I treat all the driver I meet with respect. If there is an issue, being nice always gets the problem solved quicker than being a jerk. I only had to report 1 driver in the 12 years I've been doing this. He was a UPS freight driver. He was disrespectful to one of my female employees. I refused his delivery and ordered him off the dock. The next day he and his shop Stewart (their Teamsters) came to apologize to my employee and me. I know that time is money to you guys. I make sure every thing is ready to go before calling a carrier. To many shipping managers think they are better than the guy's doing the driving. I figure the jerks will always get what they deserve in the end. Some of shippers understand what you guy's go through. Ralph
