  1. Az, I'm really not surprised at your nephew's outlook. I grew up in SoCal, and I distinctly remember being taught from the 4th grade on how fortunate we were to have a 2nd Ammendment because it gave the States the right to have a National Guard. You BS enough people with that from birth on and they believe it. It really wasn't until I was in my 20's and reading an interview with Arnold Schwarzenegger, of all people, in which he stated that the U.S. was a great country because the 2nd Ammendment gave the people the right to keep and bear arms that I started really thinking about it. Interesting how his views have changed over the decades, now that he's a Kennedy.

    Coming Due

Tony, What's the paypal address? PM or email me if you don't want it posted.
  3. A romy parts set from Sarco. I got the "like new" one and it certainly is. Anyone else notice that the parts sets prices went up 40-50% in the past six months? A sign of times to come. Get them while you can. Yesterday I got back on my old 7.62x39 93 Mauser project. It needed some little stuff like a new ejector, bump up the headspace a tad, bend the spring on the mag, etc. It's working pretty well now. Very low recoil. Just a gently shove.
  4. From: http://www.wnd.com/news/article.asp?ARTICLE_ID=51508 We all knew the lawsuites were just an attempt at disarming all of us. Here is is from the source. Also not mentioned was that S&W's bending over for the Klintons cost the English owners the company because WE THE PEOPLE refused to purchase their crap after that. After Hillary gets elected (and I'm still at a 70% certainty of that happening), we can expect much more of this plus the usual laws "for the children" or whatever, chipping away a little at a time. There was another article out today: http://www.nydailynews.com/news/politics/2...-1.html?ref=rss in which Hillary describes the old frog in a pot thing (turn up the heat slow) and how that's not going to happen with her in charge regarding oil. Well, if there's one thing that's certian, it's that she knows all about the frog in the pot, because we're the frog and she's the one with her hand on the burner control. Dr.Hess

  6. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to Ya'll from Arkansas.
  7. Bye Fritz, until we meet again. The Dr.Hess family sends our deepest sympathies to the Fritz family.
  8. Yeah, my personal experience with the Helwans (I have 2) is that once you fix whatever the Egyptians f'ed up when they made it, you get a nice little gun. Pull trigger, goes boom. Every time. And at the prices they were at, you couldn't go wrong. It seems to me that every time I find a super bargain at a gun show, it is because something needs fixin' on it. Now when I go to a show and see a super bargain, I immediately look for what needs fixin'. If I can't find it, I assume it is beyond my repair abilities. If I can find it, I factor that into the price.
  9. Oswald only shot from like 50 yards or something. With a scope. You can't hardly miss at that range with about anything, yet he did miss some. I'd still like to know how he ran around in front for that last shot.
  10. That article implies that all of our ills will be "cured" by a nice recession. If only we sacrifice a little for the recession, it will all get better. BS. I'm tired of being the one they expect to "sacrifice a little." I'm at the very tail end of the baby boom. I'm the one they talk about f'ing over every time they say that Social Security is bankrupt and needs to be "changed." What exactly do they want to change? Well, after I paid into SS for my whole life, giving a nice supplimental retirement to people that basically didn't pay into it like my grandfather, and there is no one left to pay for mine, they're just gonna f' me out of it and call it even, OK? The Great Depression was orchestrated to force us to Socialism. Socialism, it turns out, isn't about everyone working together for the greater benefit, but really about totalitarianism and control consolidation. The people of the U.S. never would have accepted it if it wasn't for the Great Depression. Look around at what the Feds do today. Virtually every "law" comes down to the Interstate Comerce Clause. That is now interpreted as meaning that the Federal Government can control every single aspect of our lives. This goes back to a case tried by Rosevelt's Supreme Court that said that a farmer growing grain on his own land for consumption by his family on his own land could be regulated by the Federal Government because it affected interstate commerce. That ruling allows the Feds to tell us how many MPG's our cars must get and how many gallons of water our toilets can flush and how many rounds our magazines can have (thankfully temporarily expired). None of that could have happened without the Great Depression. And the Great Depression was caused by the banking industry first giving massive credit and then pulling the plug. Sound familiar?
  11. For a knife, I like the curved one. For clearing brush, I like a machete. And for machete's, I only buy those made in Central or South America. There, a machete is not a tool, it is a way of life. Starting out with one of those and making him one of the same design would be my suggestion, along with that nice camp knife.
  12. I went to my range yesterday too. The one on my porch. Been having a bit of trouble with the coons. Last one took too many shots. I really like 1 shot 1 kill, but I've only been able to do that a couple times. Coon brains ain't exactly easy to hit bobbing around at 10 ft straight down with a Stoeger Luger. So, I sighted it in (KY Windage) a bit better. One inch high, or "above" in the sight picture straight down will about do it. I also put a red dot scope on my 1022. It is a super cheap Chinese one, like $20 or so that I bought a year or so ago and it's just been sitting on my shelf. That thing is pretty cool. Low light conditions are great. No light conditions get the night vision (from Harbor Freight). In sighting it in, the 1022 started acting up, so I did a thorough cleaning on it, taking the trigger mechanism out and cleaning that up for the first time in what is probably 2K rounds. Then I broke out the Contender and practiced some on my 50 yd Hunter Pistol pig target. Haven't shot that in a while since I sort of stopped shooting competitively and didn't want to get too rusty. Of course, I had to first knock the weeds down so I could see the target.

    Eye Exam

It's called Presbiopia. As we get older (a-hem), our lenses lose their flexibility. To focus up close, the lense needs to relax and bounce into "up close" shape. That doesn't happen anymore and we can't focus up close. That's why we use a "high power" (as I call it) lens to read, work on the truck or see iron sites. Ten years ago, I was shooting AAA with iron sites in Hunter Pistol. I'm starting to have difficulty with it now. I kinda quit shooting competitively about a year ago because it is a long drive from here and there was an a$$ hole that ruined the fun for my wife (she shot also with a High Standard Trophy), and if Momma ain't havin' phun, no one is and I just couldn't see blowing a bill for a day of biatching. My eye doc (an actual M.D., not a optomitrist), said that typically the presbiopia will get worse until 50, then stabilize.
  14. I was a Radio Electronics Officer in the US Merchant Marine for about 7 years. I know all about containers, and that nuke threat has been brought up many times. In fact, a few years ago (post 911), several containers were discovered to have living quarters inside them. It appeared that they would load up the container with some Sand Monkeys, stick it on the boat, deliver to the US, haul it off and that's how they were smuggling people in. I bet they paid the extra to get the container down in the hold instead of on deck. We used to lose a stack of them occasionally in a storm. Woops.
  15. That was an interesting read. The article is 5 years old. I wonder if he would have a different position today with the Iranians developing nukes and ICBMs and spreading the joy around the P.G. It was interesting to see references made to flat out threats of the U.S. nuking Lybia, Iran, Iraq, N.K., etc. and references to deals where there's the part everyone sees and the part that no one sees. You just don't see things like that discussed in the media. It is always presented as "This is all there is to it. Really. No, we mean it. Honest."
  16. SGN has been running a series on sporterizing a Mosin-Nagant. The author/gunsmith does some real nice work and there are lots of tips in his articles. His goal is to make a silk purse out of a sow's ear, or make a MN purdy. Next up he is going to chop the mag so it is flush with the bottom of the new stock. I'm a couple issues behind.
  17. What about getting the right strainer? You can look through the strainers at the local parts store until you find one that fits. I've done that before.
  18. That Rustoleum Professional is good stuff too, and not expensive. I dunno about doing a house with it, but a lot of people are doing cars with the stuff. I'm going to paint my Lotus 7 clone in Hunter Green and Safety Yellow. Saw this in Sturgis this year and last:
  19. Does anyone have any take-off parts from a Chinese SKS? I need basically all the stuff people take off when they put US made parts on, like gas tube, piston, etc. The parts places want a forture for this stuff and I can't see spending that kind of money on it.
  20. I bought a single shot .22 at a gun show a couple years ago. I think it is a Remington, but I forget the model number. Maybe 514 or something. It's old. I saw it at the show with a $25 price sticker on it and worked him down to $20. The bolt handle was missing. I bought a universal handle and brazed it on. Shoots pretty well. It is spot on at about 50 yards, but the step adjuster for the rear sight is missing. Guess I need to make one of those. I have a couple of step-grandchildren, but I don't think they are ready to handle the responsibility of that.
  21. There is no free lunch or healthcare. If it is through your employer, then it is part of your wages. So, right now you get partially paid in health insurance from your employer. The Lizard Queen looks around and sees (alledgedly) 45 million people not paying money to an insurance company!! This is terrible!! How are we going to fix this? We'll force them to have health insurance, just like we forced them to have car insurance. Without car insurance, they can't drive. If we won't buy health insurance, Hill won't allow us to live. Simple. Just do a Waco on anyone without insurance. Worst case of mass suicide ever seen. Never forget that the current health care "crisis" has been carefully orchestrated. Without a crisis, no one will want to "fix" a "problem" that doesn't exist.
  22. I think we should pass a law making it illegal to shoot cops. That way, no one will do it anymore and the problem will be solved.
  23. Yeah, I've been following that. There appears to be a hush-hush on the whole thing. debka.com is usually all over that stuff and all they said was that there was a raid and during said raid the top-of-the-line Russian air defense system was ineffective and this was some type of test as the Iranians use the exact same system.
