  1. We just came through the northern part of your state, from Cedar City, UT to Flagstaff (Sedona), then east on 40. Some beautiful and some desolate areas. Did 3400+ miles on 2 wheels x 2. Didn't see too many deer through there, or much for them to eat either north of Flagstaff.

  2. Years ago, when I lived in the PRC in a So.Cal town, I knew a mailman that had a similar problem. The neighbor cats were chewing up his cat and his vet bill was quite large. He got one of those traps and would catch them. That's how I found out exactly how quiet a 22 BB cap is. In later years, I discovered CB Longs, which in a rifle length barrel sound about as loud as a air rifle. And, they are available at most Wal*Mart's. Just get a bolt action rifle or be ready to manually cycle a semi-auto. They make more noise in a pistol length barrel.

I don't tolerate such things. Living out in the country, them city-folk (mostly from the college, I suspect) drive out of town, take the first right, then the next right and wind up on my dirt road. They dump live dogs, live cats, dead dogs, dead hogs, dead deer, dead fish and a dead black man once. The cats will eventually get pretty wild and attack mine for left over Special Kitty at night. Dogs too, sometimes. The local animal control officer told me that any animal on my property was fair game, abandoned or whatever. And anything that attacks one of my animals was a no-brainer. It is not something I look forward to doing, but I will protect my animals. Some shiite-head once dumped a beautiful male dog, about 50 lbs, 7 mo old or so. The poor dog just sat there right where he was dumped, waiting for his master to return. He would come down to my creek for some water, then go right back. After a few weeks, neighbors started feeding him scraps, fish, etc., for a month or two as he just sat there. Eventually, someone from here adopted him and he lucked out. Most of them just dwindle away, or the 'yotes get them or they get run over.

  3. This would be easy enough to test, especially around fire ants, which we fortunately do not have here just yet. I hear they are on the way, and in a way, I _almost_ prefer them to the ticks. At least you can find the fire ants and blast them. I never had a problem around the house as long as I could get some good insecticide. Saw a guy on TV that invented a fire ant killer. He hooked a cake pan up to a lawn mower. The carbon monoxide would kill the whole nest. He had to go to a neighbors yard to demonstrate it because all his fire ants were dead.

However, I think it is BS. A search of Medline only turned up http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/ency/article/002444.htm

which pretty much says aspartame isn't going to hurt you unless you have PKU. And it is made from phenylalanine and aspartic acid. No mention is made of formic acid, something that is naturally occuring in ants anyway, not just fire ants. Formic means ant in Latin. Also, the Idaho Observer, while an interesting looking publication, doesn't look like the number one cited source of informatoin in the journal world. Fringe would be a better description. Not necessarily wrong, just not terribly well researched.

Now sorbitol, that we used to use to suck the water out of the patient's brain. Just pump them full of the stuff. Makes you think about that "sugar free" product.

  4. You know, the whole thing reminds me of the Crocodile Hunter characture on South Park. The Crocodile Hunter guy grabs various wild animals and trys to piss them off by sticking his thumb up their butthole. "Oh he really pissed now." Well, the sand monkeys have the Jews really pissed now and who is coming to rescue them? No one. The world stands by and says, "OK, Jews, two more weeks to kick their ass, then you have to stop. So, hurry up." Otherwise, the UN might pass a resolution or something.

I was in Haifa during the last Lebanon invasion. Fun place, actually. I hope the sandies haven't damaged too much with their rockets.

  5. I hope they finish it this time. The sandies have been shooting missiles at them for months since the fence went up, before that they would do the suicide bombers. The Israelis really were patient for a long time. Then with the last kidnapping thing, they finally had enough. I mean, these sandies must be thinking, Oh, that got their attention. It is like poking a pit bull. Eventually it will get tired of bieng nice and bite back.

I was in Haifa in '82, the last time they invaded Lebanon. I see Haifa is being hit now.

You know, I sometimes wonder if the Israelis aren't playing us with the Palestinians. Like "Give us money for 'peace' or we'll just exterminate them all like the bible says we should have done three thousand years ago." The rest of the world says "Oh, Oh, don't do that, here's some money for 'peace.'" The Palestinians are too stupid to see they are just being used, by everyone including their leaders. Arafat was worth billions from graft on the money for the refugees. It is like the staving in Africa. If you feed them, build them infrastructure so they can create their own jobs, etc., then there would be no reason to give them any more money. So, take the money for aid and sock it away in Switzerland (or the Bahamas or wherever the "in" place is today) and the money will keep coming.

  6. Well, Medline has a total of one listing for Morgellon's Dz. Don't know if you can see the summary without a login, but it is at http://www.medscape.com/medline/abstract/1...llons%20disease and this is it:

    quote

The mystery of Morgellons disease: infection or delusion?

    Am J Clin Dermatol. 2006; 7(1):1-5 (ISSN: 1175-0561)

Savely VR; Leitao MM; Stricker RB

South Austin Family Practice Clinic, Austin, Texas, USA.

Morgellons disease is a mysterious skin disorder that was first described more than 300 years ago. The disease is characterized by fiber-like strands extruding from the skin in conjunction with various dermatologic and neuropsychiatric symptoms. In this respect, Morgellons disease resembles and may be confused with delusional parasitosis. The association with Lyme disease and the apparent response to antibacterial therapy suggest that Morgellons disease may be linked to an undefined infectious process. Further clinical and molecular research is needed to unlock the mystery of Morgellons disease.

    endquote

Go to your medical school library and look up the artical in the American Joural of Clinical Dermatoloty if you're interested.

The thing I get from the summary as most important is that half the people with it have a history of Lyme disease. Given the rarity of Lyme disease and the extreme rareness of Morgellons, there has to be some strong correlation there. So, I'd say that if you can stay away from the ticks, you should be OK. Only had about 5 on me last time I went to bait the 'coon trap.

  7. There are lots of places to read up on what all the indicators mean. A google on RSI Stochastics will give you plenty to read. Here's one:

    http://www.stockcharts.com/education/Indic...ndicators1.html

I use an ap called IQ Chart: http://www.iqchart.com/ that gives streaming real time charts. They have a free 30 day trial. But I'm not too big on paying for stuff I can get for free, so I do tend to look a long time. I trade now with etrade. They bought Brown & Co who bought out another place that I had an account with. So, I got assimilated to eTrade. There looks to be a bunch of free tools on there too, but today is the first day I logged into my new account with them, so I am still exploring. For example, stocks.tradingcharts.com has a free java chart thing that you can set up to display bollinger bands, RSI, stochastics, volume and on balance volume, which is the chart set I look at. I'm sure there are many others out there. I used to use silicon investor, but they pretty much killed their charts.

Watch out for them stop losses. The pit scum can see them and have no problem with dumping a load of the stock to drive the price down to your stop loss, buying your stock, then letting it bounce back up. Effectively ripping you off. Best to watch your stocks close and not to let the pit scum know your hand.

  8. Well, strictly from a chart reading standpoint, I would not touch BA right now. RSI is high, Stocastics are high. If anything, a long term Put wouldn't be a bad play right now from the charts, but I don't think that would be quite the thing to do either, as while we have been at war for five years now with no end in sight, I don't think BA is done making bombs and airplanes.

DE isn't right to buy either. It has gone from 57 to 91 in six months or so, RSI, Stocastics both sky high, higher than BA even. The pattern has the look of a lot of money moving into it over that time span, after it traded in the 60-70 range for a couple years. I would say a correction is coming fairly soon in this one.

Again, this is just from a chart reading standpoint. The object is to buy when the price is down and the indicators are showing an oversold condition and sell when the price is high, and the price is high on both of these now. Not to say it couldn't go higher, but it is not "low" right now. So, with my luck, they will both double in three weeks. You pays your money, you takes your chances.

  9. Just looking at the chart, I would say that RTN is having a peak right now. Kinda looks like a head and shoulders is developing on the weekly.

XTHN, I would say has about 2 weeks of upside coming, short term. However, there are no options traded on XTHN, which means you can't play covered calls on it. I don't mess with things I can't write options on to make some side money.

  10. Yeah, I would say it was meth, in a bad way too. They call it "Meth Mouth." It is all over Arkansas. Everywhere, I guess, but all over here. I used to find empty pseudophedrine blisterpacks on my road all the time. Slowed down a little after they made people show a driver's license to buy it.

  11. Hey Fritz,

BTW, I think Tyson's is the largest beef and pork packer in the country too. I don't eat meat because I got married to a vegitarian. She used to cook what she was eating and cook meat for me too. Then I started eating mor of what she was having and less meat until I just quit. I really have felt a lot better too. I've been a vegitarian now for about 18 years, I guess. I have nothing against killing, especially stuff that needs killin', like racoons, copperheads, sand monkeys, etc. I just don't eat them.

  12. I met a guy in the middle of South Dakota last year on the road to Sturgis. He said he was a former INS agent. He said that when he joined, they told him he would be in 1 shootout a month, on average. He spoke Spanish. It was a f'ed up mess, including Mexicans shooting up the brand new Surburban he was in with a M2 50 on the back of a truck on one of his first nights on the border.

I don't know why they let it get this bad. The only thing I can think of is that with the baby boomers (of which I am on the tail end) starting to retire and no one to pay for all the benefits that have become "entitlements", they are trying to bring in all the Mexicans to pay for it all. That isn't going to happen.

  13. Yes, it is bad stuff. Two possible solutions are: 1. Admit defeat in regulating drugs, legalize or decriminalize all illicit drugs, give them away in a LD100 dose, refuse to treat drug overdoses. Problem takes care of itself in a few years. 2. The Chineese approach of killing them all and letting God sort it out. User, dealers, all of them. This is how the Commie Chineese solved thier opium problem.

What we are doing now, which is neither and both, is ineffective and never will work. However, the government has a vested interest in not solving the drug problem. Solve it and that 2or 3% of our population now under the CJ system won't be. That's 2% more you do not have total control over. Police, prisons, etc. are a growth industry. You'll knock out a major sector of our economy. The payoffs that the politicians receive now will stop. Just like in prohibition, the major drug lords have no interest in drugs being legalized. It would put them out of the drug business, and just like after prohibition, they will enter politics.

There are meth labs all over Arkansas. There are several (at least) within 1 mile of me. The cops really don't care. I've seen new reports of the cops saying they would rather bust the dealers in sting (buying) deals than the labs because when they bust a lab, they have to clean up the mess (EPA).

  14. Interesting on the sandies buying the 7.62x39. Yeah, I would guestimate they are anticipating some shootin' matches.

I really like the Tulsa show. I don't go to every one, as I only have fun money to blow on gun stuff every so often, but I do try to go every year or two. It is the best show I have ever been to.

Actually, the native population here is a bit, err, strange. You can usually spot them by the trash in their front yard, including hundreds of empty pseudophed blisterpacks. However, I would have to say that the butthole of the world, and I've been around it 3 times, has to be the Persian Gulf, hands down. Having lived there a year and a half, I would say that Louisianna is the armpit of the world.

  16. Damn, you're good, Alex. Yes, there is a Great White North connection involved, a fact I was holding out on.

And thanks for ID'ing that. This was my first gun, given to my by my grandfather when I was 10. The Weaver scope came from my father's 22 a few years later.

Tell you what, next time you are in NW Arkansas, you just hollar and I'll give you your choice of a free beer or a free rectal exam. Whichever you prefer.

  17. Oh Wise Uncle Alex T.,

Can you ID this 22 bolt gun?

    IPB Image

All I know about it is that was probably purchased at a Western Auto some time in the '50's, and it says "Sureshot" on the barrel. I have never been able to figure out what it is. To put it on Safe, you pull the bolt back and twist it over to the left and a lug engages the receiver to stop it from moving forward. Tubular mag. S, L, LR. There is a rabit checkered on the wrist.

Sorry I don't have a prize for you, but you will get the satisfaction of showing all the rest of us up.

  18. I believe I read somewhere that in states where they released wolves the SOP was to burry them where they got capped. How anyone would want to protect copperheads or rattlesnakes is beyond me. Sorry, I see one, it's dead if it's still there when I come back with a weapon. I've capped a few copperheads here in NW AR. Fortunately, my critters or us peoples haven't been bit.

Latest thing is the bunny huggers sueing to protect some swamp or something in east Arkansas to protect the Ivory Billed Woodpecker, which may or may not be extinct. Someone claimed to take a fuzzy picture of one, so they sued to "protect" some huge number of acres. It is insane.
