    Shooting

911 is government sanctioned dial a prayer when the shooting starts. Government created "gun free" zones touted as "for the protection of the masses" are actually 'FREE FIRE ZONES" for the mentally deficients against which there is no defense except a gun. Lets do a little logical math excercise. If the theater held 200 people and just 5% of them were armed. That would have been 10 defensive shooters who could return fire. If each only had a 5 shot revolver. That would have been 50 rounds directed toward a target standing on a stage in front of a lit movie screen. Out of those 50 rounds, odds are that a few at least would have drawn blood from the waist down, arm, or head. MR. Whacko would not have calmly walked out of theater after his carnage and peacefully surrendered to the late arriving LEO's. So he can enjoy a life of luxury for the rest of his days in a comfy funny farm. While reminescing about his 15 min. of fame. JM2c
  2. SAAMI pressure specs on the 3 cartridges you mentioned. 7x57........51,000 psi 22-250......65,000 " 6MM Rem.....65,000 " There were Mauser 98's originally chambered in 7x57 such as the 1908, if it is one of those it would be suitable for the 22-250 or 6mm. your question, Short Chambered barrels come in both large and small ring sizes. Price is usually same. Selection of suitable calibers is larger with the large ring short chambered barrels because of the fact that no mfg is going to stick out there legal neck selling 22-250 or 6mm barrels for small ring actions. 3. Rod offering his bolt and labor and Don jumping in with his butterknife handle reminded me it's been a while since I did anything to help support the forum. I don't need a bolt at this time and I have a drawer full of butterknifes. So I sent 25 bucks through PayPal to Flatulant Fowl to lend a small hand in keeping this place going. So while you are here browsing, learning, sharing knowledge, and sometimes just joking around and picking on each other good naturedly remember nothing worth having is free. JM2c
  4. Google is a spammers best friend. Dr. Hess just google "8mm mauser" and you get the answer in 10 or 20 seconds. Just about anything you can ask like "what was Lincoln's wife named" is gonna show on google. Even a question so obscure as "what was Ackley's fastest cartridge?" you get .22 Eargesplitten Loudenboomer. with very little reading on wiki. How about.........A non SAAMI cartridge developed by a shooter is called a _______________? A question with less hints for searchers would seem best for purpose.
  5. I thought all swallows were unleaded. That's why you can't burn them in older engines.
  6. Long Skinny barrels are definitely more prone to heat walking than short stiff barrels. But that does not explain why second group would be a 60 % improvement over first. Harmonics may be the gremlin if that barrel doesn't care for the load you feed it. Could be any one of or all of several contributing factors. Is barrel floated clear enough with weight of rifle resting on fore end? Or it could be that your particular barrel just doesn't like being floated. Try putting a few layers of matchbook covers under barrel at end of fore end to give slight upward pressure. IMO replacing barrel is last resort after process of elimination has ruled out all of the other gremlins that can be working against you. JM2c
  7. Mike as a non co-op member, maybe I should just sit back and see how this goes. But as an interested party [and I'd like to believe contributing forum member] who intends to join co-op. Wouldn't it be easier for you to ship one box to one address. Rather than say 50 boxes to various addresses? As a current non-member I don't feel as if I have a vote either way. But overwhelming concensus of members seems to want to keep co-op intact under new handler as you first suggested.
  8. Kewl, Watching I noticed very high recoil angle. Then I noticed that hands holding pistol are quite small like a childs.
  9. Alternative to the Gun Nutty method. If there isn't a hole simply pull cocking piece back a little farther until there is a slight space between it and the rear of the shroud. Slip a dime [or if cheap like me a penny] between CP and shroud and relax tension until it is captured. JM2c
  10. ADMISSION OF GUILT IN HIS OWN WORDS March 28, 2011 After his Nighmare [dream] Amnesty Act was LEGALLY voted down by Congress. Being urged by Hispanic groups to implement the ACT by EXECUTIVE ORDER his reply was. That was then and this is now. He is as always a LAPOE [lying ass piece of excrement] because he has ILLEGALLY granted IMMUNITY to ILLEGALS by executive order. He has by executive order granted to ILLEGAL ALIEN LAW BREAKERS more RIGHTS against prosecution than those granted to LAW ABIDING US CITIZENS by the CONSTITUTION and the BILL OF RIGHTS. He has again asserted that if you break our laws and hide long enough you will be granted immunity and REWARDED for doing so. Urging through executive order for othesr to ILLEGALLY ENTER and BREAK OUR LAWS. Spitting in the face of Congress, all LEGAL US Citizens, and those diligent Immigrants in countries all over the world that have gone about LEGAL ENTRY into the USA.
  11. Unrealistic pipe dreams won't excise this Cancer. It is already ILLEGAL to hire an ILLEGAL. There is already a Karl Card in place. It is called a VISA. ENFORCEMENT is the answer. If someone is an ILLEGAL, out they go. There is no alternative. We should at the very least patrol our southern border the same way our southern neighbor does. With the US Military. Their original purpose was to protect the United States. Not being utilized in one crap hole after another acting as international police for countries to spineless to do it themselves.
  12. OK, now I'm really confused. As compared to my normal state of confusion. chasmike aka Mike Case is in charge of the co-op. correct? FC makes a post regarding vague complaints from un-named source about Mike's handling of the co-op and asking opinions. Folks jump in left and right in support of Mikes handling of co-op. Not one complaint posted. Even after I urged who ever complained to come forward. Then come the posts saying Mike is looking for replacement. I'm curious as to Mike's reason for wanting to no longer handle co-op. Personal? If so it is nobodies business, especially mine as an as of yet non co-op member. I'm a member of other forums as are other here. Both gun and machining related. From time to time the Co-op here is mentioned in High regard on those forums and I've never heard a disparaging word about it.
  13. So you seriously suggest further coddling of ILLEGAL ALIEN Law Breakers by bestowing more rights to them than those gauranteed Citizens by the Constitution. And this will somehow fix the ILLEGAL ALIEN problem??? Employers of ILLEGALS should and could be charged and fined already by existing law. E-verify is in place and goes unused. US Government Contractors are already banned from hiring ILLEGALS. Making more Laws won't help. Never has and never will. You are speaking of a Cultural Cancer that has not only been allowed to grow but encouraged to grow with TAX Dollars for 60 some years. Closing the BORDER and ENFORCING existing law to the full letter is the only real answer. More concessions and rewarding law breakers just leads to more of the same. I do not feel morally or legally responsible for the predicament of ILLEGALS no matter how old or how long they have been here.
  14. I disagree whole heartedly if the heading of this post is regarding ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS. Lib-Tard Politicos and Lamestream Media go to great lenghts to obsfucate the [not gray area] of ILLEGAL ALIENS and Legal Residents. First is the VERY BIG difference between Legal Resident Immigrants and ILLEGAL ALIENS. ILLEGALS are disqualified from service in any branch of the military. So how can they possibly be given amnesty for service? Oh that's right, they can't. If they are already law abiding Legal Residents with Visas they are eligible to be inducted. Which already gives them a shortcut to Citizenship if the choose to become Citizens. Law breakers should not be given a pass because they only committed misdemeaners. ILLEGALS have shown a total disregard for any and all US Laws by ILLEGALLY entering our country to start with. What next.........no prosecution of US Citizens if they only commit misdemeanor crimes and stop short of felonies. Example.......We will feel sorry for a criminal that only mugged a little old lady because that is a misdemeanor. But we will prosecute them if they rob a bank? Why should ILLEGALS be given more rights with LEOs, Prosecutors, and US Courts than Citizens???? Rewarding Law Breakers instead of making them face the consequences of their own actions at the expense of others is just wrong. ILLEGAL is ILLEGAL. And if someone is here in OUR country ILLEGALLY then all they deserve from US TAXPAYING CITIZENS is a ride on a green bus. I care not if they have been here a day or a decade. You can't say hey, he's only been here stealing for a week so we will send him packing. But now if he had been here stealing for ten years we should let him go on stealing. IMHO......The only Immigration Problem that we as a nation have is the total lack of comprehensive enforcement of OUR LAWS. This is an ongoing problem that goes back to the end of the Eisenhour Administration.
  15. JM2c This is an open forum. If the Co-op is run from and affiliated with the Fabulous Flatulant Chicken Sporter Forum. Then let any complaints be open for forum discussion. I've never been fond of under the table or behind the back complaints or rumors. It is impossible to defend/justify a persons actions be they good or not so much from vague innuendo and rumor.
  16. And there you have the word of a highly respected working gunsmith. As opposed to my cost est. guess as a self avowed tinkerer.
  17. More input from members on this topic would be appreciated. I have never had anything to do with the Co-Op but do have several reamers I was going to throw in the pot. If there are issues, I would like to know before investing a couple hundred dollars in this. At this point I'm a totally neutral observer. Thanx, pacrat
  18. Howdy Josh, Remember the only dumb question went unasked. Shank dia on a 1917 is larger than a 98 mauser by a bit. Shank dim. are 1.125 thrd dia with 10 sq. tpi and .800 lenght. It is also cut with a 45 degree cone breech and an extractor cut on the right side of stub. Quite a bit more complicated than just screwing in a mauser barrel that is short chambered and reaming headspace. With out a large lathe, a mill, and extensive machine shop experience it would be best left to a professional.IMO Check this link and scroll down to pg 6 for the 1917. http://www.homegunsmith.com/cgi-bin/ib3/iB_html/uploads/post-71-40666-BSD_small.pdf Just the action wrench and barrel vise will cost about $100. For a one off, not worth the investment. Finding a contoured blank as opposed to a pre threaded barrel should be no problem at all. Sounds like your local smith was jacking costs quite a bit. JM2c
  19. Since both are sporterized and as such have no collector value. D&T both then you can check accuracy on both with a scope and leave scope on best of 2 for the long shots. JM2c
  20. I've had one for several years. It is the LR/Mag convertible with fixed sights. Shoots better than I can hold. Finish is not what you will find on a S&W or a Colt but a perfectly servicable shooter as good as a Ruger SA IMO. Only SA i've ever seen that had a manual safety. JM2c
  21. NO RELOADS.............. That's odd. Some of the local indoor ranges here in SoCal don't allow lead bullets because of enviromental concerns. But do allow lead cores as long as the bearing surface is plated. The 4 diff. indoor ranges within driving distance ALL MAKE AND SELL RELOADS to shooters.

  23. Nice work, as always Don. BTW, I'm with you on the tactical look.
