  1. Cartridge Pressure Standards

In the U.S., voluntary pressure standards for rifle cartridges are set by SAAMI, a member of ANSI. Most other countries in the world follow the standards of Europe's CIP (Commission Internationale Permanente pour l'Epreuve des Armes à Feu Portatives or Permanent International Commission for the Proof of Small-arms, sometimes referred to as the International Proof Commission).

The pressures in the table below are rounded up to the nearest ksi, ie.1000 psi. Cartridges are arranged, approximately, in order of bullet diameter and then by case volume.

So the M1Garand should have no problem with pressure

also I am looking at ar30 magazine it is single stack? no modificaion to the receiver

fmsniper, thank you for your service to our country, I see you've been very busy 6.5x55 on a garand interesting. Can't wait to see your version of the K31. Regards Frank

  2. Some years back when swedish mausers were on the market and wat cheaper than they are today. I had a smith cut the bbl down to about 1/4" before the metal end cap on the stock. Then he was supposed to cut off the origional bolthandle and weld on a model 70 type bolt handle. Sufficed to say this was not done and the origional bolt handle was just forged and welded. I would like to get a nice bolt handle welded on maybe get the cocking cam rehardened. The rifle is drilled and tapped for a one piece ( redfield small mauser) scope mount. I had evisioned a mannlicher schoenaur look. So if anyone here can do such work I'll be able to relagate this safe queen to active duty. And am I wrong in assuming that you will require the entire rifle or not?. Obviously I would like to get this done after the holidays as right now am extremely financially challenged. One other thing, what would be needed to be able to raise my cheek so in order to be able to get better sight alignment with the scope?. Some kind of strap on pad assembly?. I've seen some of the work that some of the folks here do, and around here there is no one I'd trust to do the work. Frank

  3. thats not my rifle, i found that picture when looking for ideas to build a modern style mosin nagant.

mine is still a pile of parts. all i have done is moved the bolt handle to the rear & closed the gap in the rear bridge. i have a finned madsen lmg barrel in 7mm thats going to be threaded & chambered in 7mmx54r for it.

i have a mauser project with the same type of barrel, its still very rough right now but once i finish shapping the stock it should start to look alot less bubbafied.

dirty jim, question where did you get the 7mm lmg barrel and what shape is the bore. Have an 1895 chilean mauser action, plus the origional stock. and all of the bands, pins. Was thinking of turning it into a short rifle for shooting cast bullets. Regards Frank

  4. Ok, here are some good closeups of the metal work. Looks much better than the rough machining that was there. This was two coats of the cold blue. It works like any other cold blue but is much darker and dosn't dull or rust when handling like other cold blues can do. Enjoy....

Great job. Your cold blue came out really nice. The slimming of the trigger guard was a nice touch and the recrowning sure was another step in the right direction. Slimming down the stock to sleeker lines is also a plus. with what you have there I for one would not feel undergunned for deer or bear. Have fun,Frank

  5. I have not tried them, but I don't see why they wouldn't work

Ken98K, thanks, think they are referred to as oil less bushings. Some of the ones are made by Boston Gear. Now if I could only just remember where I put them. CRS don't you know. Thanks again,Frank

  6. I think the main problem with these rollers is the hardness of the bearings against the softer barrel metal.

The softer brass rollers will eliminate that problem.

The bearing will work great for a project I've got in mind.

Ken98K, have you tried the oil less lubricant impregnated bronze bushings?. Have a couple small ones around here some where and wondered if they would work?. Frank

  7. Very nice work all the way around. Z's bolt handles are as nice as the neat little slot he cuts for them. Not like Winchester who leaves enough gap around it to store snacks while you're hunting!

Hi, new to this forum. Excellent work on your new rifle. And really like the way the bolt handle work turned out. Classic is the word I would use. Best of luck on your hunting with it. Regards, Frank
