You did great work on the metal, the final cost for the rifle is on par with a CZ 550 in 9.3x62, but this one just fits and balances better, has the back up irons I want. Can't put a price tag on that. dirtyjim, I would have loved to get an original or quality repro AJAX scope for the imitation sniper Turk, but I already had the IOR from another rifle. I originally had my Savage set up "European" style with the fixed 6x scope. I ended up going to a Bushnell 3200 Elite 10x40 mildot for the Savage. Karl, I agree with what you say, but with one caveat. Those conscientious objectors who were drafted and served honorably as medics or other support personnel are not cowards, but men of true faith who served to the utmost extent of their ability. Growing up in the church of my parents I got to understand a little of what it meant to walk into combat without a rifle. Thomas W. Bennet was the second conscientious objector to be awarded the Medal of Honor. Here is his citation: For conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in action at the risk of his life above and beyond the call of duty. Cpl. Bennett distinguished himself while serving as a platoon medical aidman with the 2d Platoon, Company B, during a reconnaissance-in-force mission. On 9 February the platoon was moving to assist the 1st Platoon of Company D which had run into a North Vietnamese ambush when it became heavily engaged by the intense small arms, automatic weapons, mortar and rocket fire from a well fortified and numerically superior enemy unit. In the initial barrage of fire, 3 of the point members of the platoon fell wounded. Cpl. Bennett, with complete disregard for his safety, ran through the heavy fire to his fallen comrades, administered life-saving first aid under fire and then made repeated trips carrying the wounded men to positions of relative safety from which they would be medically evacuated from the battle position. Cpl. Bennett repeatedly braved the intense enemy fire moving across open areas to give aid and comfort to his wounded comrades. He valiantly exposed himself to the heavy fire in order to retrieve the bodies of several fallen personnel. Throughout the night and following day, Cpl. He treated 1 wounded comrade and began running toward another seriously wounded man. Although the wounded man was located forward of the company position covered by heavy enemy grazing fire and Cpl. Bennett was warned that it was impossible to reach the position, he leaped forward with complete disregard for his safety to save his comrade's life. In attempting to save his fellow soldier, he was mortally wounded. Cpl. Bennett's undaunted concern for his comrades at the cost of his life above and beyond the call of duty are in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit, and the U.S. Army. My guess is accuracy issues with the short barreled m3 over the open terrain of the beach, the hedgerows, etc. It was a good design for cheap manufacture and reliability, but not something I would want to shoot for groups. Jimro

The sun is the driving factor in climate. As the sun raises and lowers solar output we get global warming and global cooling (which can be seen on the other planets as well). Sunspot activity is the absolute best climate indicator. Now as sunspot activity is high, that means solar output is high and the solar wind is high. A powerful solar wind works to shield the planets from "cosmic rays" which are instrumental in cloud formation. Clouds are the number one cause of global cooling. High solar output equals warming. Periods of decreased solar output equal more clouds as cosmic rays interact with water vapor and cause more sunlight to be reflected back into space. So far we've explained global warming and global cooling without ANY reference to Carbon Dioxide. Simply put Carbon Dioxide is NOT a driving factor in climate, it is a reactive factor. Carbon Dioxide correlates to temperature, but it lags 800 years behind. Any first year chemistry student learns that cooler liquids can hold more gases in solution than hot liquids. This means as the oceans cool they absorb CO2, and as they warm they release CO2. This is why CO2 lags behind temperature instead of temperature lagging behind CO2. Scientists at NASA and NOAA who have a satellite devoted to nothing but studying the correlation between CO2 and Temperature have found that all evidence they have gathered currently points to a NEGATIVE correlation, that CO2 causes cooling. This is because sunspot activity has been declining for the last ten years, consequently we've been on a cooling trend for the last ten years despite the fact that CO2 levels have been increasing mainly due to developing economies such as India and China. Now, the argument for anthropogenic global warming is this, "Increased CO2 will cause the atmosphere to hold more solar energy". That is it. It is not an untrue statement, but what they don't tell you is that the amount of energy trapped will be completely insignificant compared to water vapor. In astrophysics a "black body" refers not to a black hole, but to an object that emits as much radiation as it absorbs. CO2 is only active in one very small portion of the IR spectrum, and as such doubling or even tripling the amount of atmospheric CO2 will not cause climate catastrophe because of the indirect nature of how CO2 affects temperature at all. The same is not true for gases such as Methane, Ethane, Propane, Butane, Pentane, or Hexane. The hydrocarbons are much more active in the IR spectrum. If you take nothing away from this post except for this, remember these three things. 1. The Sun drives climate. 2. Water vapor is the most significant greenhouse gas and works with the sun because the solar wind affects cloud formation. 3. CO2 only affects a very small portion of the IR spectrum and other gases such as Methane are far more effective "greenhouse gases". So don't worry about CO2, it isn't a problem. Jimro

Red hot (to where a magnet won't attract) should reset any "set" the steel has as it changes the crystalline matrix of the steel. If you want to anneal the steel to it's softest you'll need to keep it hot a lot longer. I'd get the steel red hot and then let it cool slowly in an insulating material, like a sand bath that you heated up in an oven wrapped in fiberglass insulation. If you have an oven that you can keep at 500 degrees for 12 hours that should do it too. Jimro

It looks like somebody finally figured out that they will make more money out of keeping you happy than trying to nickel and dime you at every opportunity. I've thought of doing the same thing with commercial rifle barrels. Your plan to add a "shank" to the barrel you have is sound. Regular old pipe steel is a little soft for my liking but I can see no reason why it wouldn't be safe, the receiver ring would be the ultimate stress bearer from any outward expansion during firing, and the bolt would take any rearward thrust. I wish I had the CAD software to actually map out the forces. Jimro

For the cost of a 20 guage barrel I think it would be cheap insurance as opposed to using plumbing pipe. although 12 kpsi seems like low pressure compared to some of the steam boiler systems used on old Navy ships. Jimro
