  1. "Let us live so that when we come to die even the undertaker will be sorry." Mark Twain Somehow that is the only thing that comes to mind when I think about fritz (with the little f) passing on. I am going to miss him. I can't imagine the heartache his family is experience, but I pray that God will comfort them. Jimro
  2. My Dad taught me to shoot on his model 60, plain jane model. A couple years back he bought a new stainless version for himself. He still has both rifles and both are in good working condition. Marlin has pretty darn good customer service, Dad bent the action spring when he cleaned it once and Marlin sent him a replacement free of charge. To keep them cycling properly you need to clean out the action as carbon builds up in there over time. They are a good rifle in my experience, loads of fun. I would probably own a few myself but I like bolt action 22's myself because it forces a young shooter to concentrate on each shot a little more than a semi. Jimro
  3. Sounds like a quick cut with reamer is what you need. Jimro
  4. Ballistically it is the twin of the 6.5x55, which has proven itself on plenty of Scandanavian moose. A lot of wildcat "tactical" cartridges are based on the 260 Rem using various "improvement" techniques. You should be happy with one. Good hunting. Jimro
  5. How about a cruise? Let the crew pamper her for a week? Jimro
  6. all epoxy resins should stand up to gasoline just fine, the only problems you could run into is if you get a bad batch of hardener that doesn't complete the chemical reaction. Jimro
  7. Recycling Darby and Mountains sucked, but my second time through I rolled with a good squad and didn't have any problems with peers or patrols. I start Airborne school a week from Monday, hopefully no injuries this time (tore the crap out of my left foot at Airborne school back in 98). I am so tired I think I'll sleep for a week. I missed this sight and missed my rifles, firing blanks isn't the same, even with machine guns. Jimro
  8. Right now I'm on an 8 hour refit pass from Ranger school, thought I'd give ya'll an update. After being recycled from Mountain phase back to Darby my peers went from 58% to 85%, and I passed 50% of my patrols. I had a kickass recon mission as a squad leader, we snooped and pooped our way up a hillside looking down on the objective. After about 20 minutes of observation the Ranger Instructor got bored and told the OPFOR where our objective rally point was and to go attack it. So they proceded to walk within 30 meters of our position and startle a doe and fawn to our front and rear, evidently we pulled a pretty stealthy sneak into our observation point. My bravo team leader did a good job defending the ORP and we all got our go's. I'm in a lot better shape physically now than when I last went through Mountain phase, no exertion injury and no upper respiratory infection. Hopefully things go as well the second time as they did through Darby. As the weather gets cooler my endurance only goes up, my best run times have always been in winter. I guess I just overheat a little too quickly. Hopefully the next time I sign on will be late October just before graduation. Jimro
  9. Tony, I know how much stress it can be trying to get that next promotion, the officer world is a lot more cutthroat than the enlisted side of the house. I just recycled Ranger school, made it through mountains but got peered and now I'm starting Darby again in about a week. All the "three years and out" Lieutenants who got recycled took a drop, all of us who know we'll be in for the next decade or so know we need the tab to be competitive. You do what you have to do to succeed, all of us here will support you any way we can. Who knows, maybe by the time I get out of Ranger school we'll meet up over in the big sandbox Jimro
  10. But I'm not out of the woods yet, still have Mountains and Florida phases to go. The prayers of a righteous man availeth much, and all prayers are appreciated. God willing I'll check in in 6 weeks with a success story. Jimro
  11. The rib muscles are all healed up and I'm signing in tonight. God willing I will be wearing a Ranger tab on Sept. 9th. With all the crap it's taken me to get this shot I ain't quitting. I think that is the very definition of a Ranger, someone who won't quit. Jimro
  12. http://www.foodnetwork.com/food/recipes/re...6_11125,00.html http://www.foodnetwork.com/food/recipes/re...6_23019,00.html Alton Brown is a darn good cook. Jimro
  13. What I don't understand is why it is a mystery that appraisals go up, they go up EVERYWHERE. Historically real estate and homes have been the surest long term investment. About three years back they raised my Aunt's taxes because she bought the house for more than the county appraised. But does that mean that the Governor is behind it all? No, it isn't a big conspiracy it's just business as usual. The only sure thing is death and taxes. Jimro
  14. Karl, Nothing wrong with T'pol, but I'm particular to Seven of Nine. Jimro
  15. Ok fritz, now I know you are a liberal, you have conspiracy theories down pat. I highly doubt that the governor really controls the appraisers... Jimro

    Taxes

fritz, you are a gentleman farmer, which means you know that acreage doesn't always produce at the same rate. If you get X bushels from prime acreage, and X-5 bushels from subprime acreage then you know that you just need more acreage to get the same amount of bushels. Tax cuts are the same way, you get less money per individual but more money because there are more people making money. I have never seen taxes stimulate the economy and create money. Every historical example of tax cuts shows that they DO stimulate the economy. And ignoring social programs is the very best thing to do for them. New Orleans is a good example of how social programs only breed dependency. Jimro
  17. Congratulations, this is the best news I've heard all day. Jimro

fritz if you think a strong military is expensive you should remember what a weak military costs. Jimro
  19. I scored 34, there are only 25 questions, but if you include all the subsections there are 40 inputs that a user inputs. Whether they start with a median of 20 and use the "agree/disagree" as +1 or -1 I do not know. I can't figure out the scoring algorithm based on my one run through the quiz. Jimro
  20. It is always a tragedy when a good man passes on. Jimro

    Taxes

The Telephone federal excise tax was put in place to help pay for the Spanish American War (1898), and it's been on and off the books ever since. Also 100 years ago Britain and Germany were more "prosperous" than the United States. Also the US carried "National Debt" since the very beginning. http://www.die.net/musings/national_debt/ I'm sure that when I'm a grandfather that I'll look back to the days of my youth in the 1980's and believe that things were better then. But unless something really terrible happens in the future, it won't be true, it would just be nostalgia. Jimro
  22. I'm all for it as long as it makes the rifle look scarier. Jimro
  23. Gel inserts work, but I prefer sorbothane inserts for shock reduction. Jimro
  24. Best way to clean the m4/m16 is to take them into the shower with you.... Jimro
  25. Could she be the next Anne Coulter? I only dare hope. Jimro
