  1. I got fed up tonight as I have been the past several days. I start to watch Fox News then turn it off. I’ve never felt so disgusted and helpless watching my government.
  2. State legislators could do it by adding a tax on each and every round. I believe it’s California that requires a back ground check to buy ammo. I imagine the next step might be adding a ridiculously high background check fee. I’m fairly confident it would be beat down in the courts but it could take years. I’m in good shape ammo wise. I’m guilty of being a hoarder during the Obozo shortages. I hoarded reloading components, primers especially. My current problem is my reloading gear and components are totally disorganized. Having a dispute with my X while she was moving out. I started cramming things into the former bedroom I made into my gun room. Between being lazy, lacking ambition, partially crippled and painful being on my feet for more than 30 or so minutes. I just haven’t got around to getting things back in order. Sorry caught myself keyboard rambling again. I will now shut up!!!
  3. Maybe this link works better https://www.facebook.com/falak.khan.96742277/videos/2981677118788123/
  4. Don’t know but there is hardly a shortage of Opium in Afghanistan. https://fb.watch/7E92A1CI8r/
  5. Well not exactly as I believe it was written somewhere the militia were required to have and maintain sufficient ball and powder. Karl you’re the history guy, was it in The Articles of Confederation or some other early US document. It could come in handy if it has to go to the Supremes.
  6. Most Russian guns have been blocked from import for several years. It’s not anything new. Correct me if I’m wrong but I think it started with Clinton. The only exceptions we’re some sporting rifles and shotguns but I haven’t seen any new Baikal shotguns for sale in a long time. I do miss the Russian Makarov pistols that sold for about a hundred. My Russian Mak has an adjustable rear sight not found on the others. I did have one POS Russian Mak. It was chambered for 380 but the bore slugged .364 the correct bore size for the 9MM Mak bullet. I traded it away for a Russian made 410 O/U shotgun for my grandson. I had my mind set on one of the Russian O/U double barrel 30/06 rifles. The lightweight barrel alignment was up to the buyer saving the factory labor costs. Unfortunately after they became scarce the prices went sky high before I got a chance to buy one. Early 90’s they were about $275 + FFL and shipping.
  7. Seems to me a few years ago during a battle the Afghanistan troops turned away and ran. They were pretty much branded as cowards by our news media. As reported later on Fox and other sources. Their officers all left a few days earlier, many of the soldiers hadn’t eaten in 2 or 3 days and finally after they were without water the US trained Afghani soldiers left. I saw a recent YouTube video where an American advisor and trainer complained bitterly about the drug use of the Afgani soldiers and their leaders. Given the circumstances of drug use and insipid leadership. It’s no wonder the Taliban came to power so quickly. I was never in the military but worked with many Veterans. The former officers that went into management were all respected, managed well and were true leaders. I just can’t imagine going into battle with no leadership and drugged up soldiers, I’d run too. I wonder if our US Military was turning a blind eye to the drug use. I can’t recall the exact details but best I recall two US soldiers were punished and were chastised by the lib press. The US soldiers stopped two Afgani soldiers raping 10 year old boys and beat them up in the process. If we had leadership like General Patton, he would have pinned a medal on the US soldiers. I’m not sure of the outcome but my best guess the Afgani soldiers got their wrist slapped.
  8. I just find it hard to believe orders were not given to destroy everything left behind. I wonder if an order was passed down to not to destroy everything. With a bit of fuel and a match all the equipment could have been easily destroyed. During the Iranian hostage crisis a batch of mail from Iran to various aircraft manufactures. Was all marked refused and some how it all wound up in the Phoenix sectional center. From Phoenix it was “mistakenly” forwarded to an Indian Reservation near Gallop New Mexico. My guess it was likely the Iranians looking for spare parts. Chances are good our military likely left behind plenty of spare parts but sooner or later the Taliban of whomever like Iran that buys it will need parts. I’m certain China and Russia are on the ground in Afghanistan looking to back engineer US equipment. No telling what will be found on US computers. THX JOE
  9. Yikes!! I give up, tried my best to clean it up it it included posts I made on other thread and Karl’s response.
  10. I pushed the wrong button or something as most of what I typed disappeared
  11. I still have a good supply of 762X39. It’s about ten or more years old. I won’t buy from Cheaper Than Dirt if there’s an alternative. They were the biggest gougers of all online ammo merchants. There was a lot of net chatter about CTD returning or canceling orders then offering the same merchandise at higher prices.
  12. I’m in the process of having a rental house re-roofed. So far I’ve been quoted $120-125 for any plywood panels that might need to be replaced. I know a portion of the price is labor but hard to believe. THX Joe
  13. In the 80’s there was an incident when a bad guy managed to get a cop’s gun away from him. The bad guy attempted to shoot the cop but the round was a dud. I think it might have been Remington Ammo in a Smith and Wesson pistol. The issue was never resolved far as I know as S&W blamed the ammo and Remington blamed the gun. From what I recall police departments all over the country stopped using that type of ammo. The cop claimed it was an act of God. In the mid 70’s I bought some ammo from a gun store fire sale. Most the ammo had significant smoke and water damage on the boxes and a few I got the styrofoam started to melt. I only had one dud from a box of Remington 44 Special. Nearly the entire plank of styrofoam was partially meltedI. I used a knife to cut the ammo out then used a dry SOS pad to remove residue on the brass. The one dud from the corner of the tray was discolored and good sense I should have tossed it. I was young and stupid I guess and fortunately it didn’t shoot or worse exploded in my fragile Charter Arms Bulldog. A friend claimed he had a couple of hang fires from 38’s he bought at the same time but no duds. I can’t recall hearing complaining about any USA mfd ammo other than Remington. My preferred brands are Federal and Winchester and if I can afford it Norma. I can recall hearing and reading about the then new 70’s era Hornady rifle ammo sold under the Frontier brand name having horrible accuracy. During the Obozo shortage era I had more than my fair share of dud Remington primers. I sent about 120 small pistol primers to Remington that were just empty cups no guts inside. The Remington small rifle primers I bought at the same time were fine. Remington did respond promptly. A rep phoned me wanting the lot numbers off the thousand primer package. The rep did ask me what I was loading telling him 38 Special and 9 MM . About a week or so later I got two 100 rd packages of of 9MM and 38/357 bullets, a letter of apology saying they were unable to ship primers through the mail. Seems to me I also got some kind of rebate coupon I misplaced. I can’t recall the exact words in my letter but it wasn’t polite. I was really pissed as I paid about double or more than the pre Obama price. Sorry guys if you made it this far with my keyboard rambling. I’m obviously very bored !!
  14. A former girlfriend from high school tried but didn’t complete the training. She claimed to have dropped out but my guess she was probably rejected. One thing I’ll always remember her telling us that’s kind of amusing. She claimed they spent hours learning how to bend, stoop, lean etc without exposing their underwear in their short skirts. Last I heard about her she was working an airline ticket counter in Wash DC in the early 70’s and later marrying into a wealthy Boston family.
  15. Now being single again no more 2-fer deals on junk food when I’m to lazy to cook. Burger King last year 2/$5 Whoppers, Fish or Chicken. Went up to 2/$6 now $4.99 each. 2/.99 Jack in the Box taco are now $1.50. Guess I was hungry, a double Whataburger, onion rings and shake just short of 14 bucks. Whataburger used to sell just a single patty I’d give my dog for about 85 cents. I declined after I was told $1.50. I used to get Arby’s coupons about twice a month in junk mail but haven’t seen any in several weeks. In and Out burger always paid above minimum but the workers had to hustle, work fast or they were out of a job. I don’t know what the minimum wage increase did to their prices. Haven’t been there in several months but I have noticed the long lines in the drive-tru are gone. I’m burned out on pizza but I’ve noticed Dominos increase is only a buck on the 2-fer pick up deal. Usually the pizza was ready after ordering on the phone or net and driving almost three miles. My last order was delayed about 40 minutes. The email said COVID restrictions but there were only three employees in the pick up location, usually there were several. Guess uncle Joe is paying to well to sit at home rather than work in a hot kitchen around the ovens. I noticed a large help wanted sign n the door. My neighbor’s sister works in a vitamin and magic elixir store. He claims the miracle vitamin, testosterone and mineral supplements are up 30% and his sister was working double shifts being short on employees.
  16. Life gets boring beginning at age 70. I’ve never been into fishing after about age ten when I fished irrigation ditches and canals. My first day I caught one Catfish and a few Carps. I was disappointed when dad got home and I found out Carp aren’t edible. I got lucky one day and reeled in a trout but mom wouldn’t cook it. I messed it up trying to clean it and gave it to our cat. Before my X left we made plans to go to San Diego, hire a boat and fish in the ocean. Chemo got in the way and I had to cancel the reservation and lost a $150 deposit. My dad used to go fishing in the ocean at Rocky Point Mexico. He went shrimping there one weekend. Him and his friends came home with several ice chests full of shrimp on ice.
  17. Luck is my best guess as well but from he told me. Many of the Marines in the embassy were well connected. He claimed his first room mate was the nephew of a Congressman. My acquaintance, can’t call him a friend as years later he did time for drug dealing. He had to do extra time in boot claiming he severely blistered his hands on the horizontal bar. From what he told me he had it made. Stayed in a hotel with paid for maid and laundry service. He got a mid day meal at the embassy and was given a stipend for two meals a day with a few extra bucks for their Sunday meal. Marines were ordered not to wear their uniform while in public and the embassy furnished their civies. After a year or so at the embassy he wound up in Japan and Korea. He was a good guy in high school but kind of a sissie. He used to show up at my house with board games on school nights. I wasn’t much interested and he usually played with my younger brother. He was later shunned from my group of friends and I don’t think he had any other friends. A neighboring high school was causing problems in the morning commute to school. They were ganging up 3-4 beating on one, playing grab ass with the girls and dumped or stole a few purses. Cops or school didn’t do Jack so after they beat a small in stature freshman bad and stole his books and shoes. We got together with about 20 guys in three cars. Caught them in the morning, beat their asses and did major damage to one punk father’s Jeep. My friend the later Marine was mouthy but him and one other were to scared to get out of the car when the fighting started. The little guy still hurting from the beating fought harder than anybody. He went after a guy twice his size and tried to take his shoes off then took a knife to the Jeep’s canvas cover.
  18. I can’t even guess how many postal employees I worked with said the same “wish I would have stayed”. My number was 192. I attempted a few times to enlist but couldn’t pass the hearing tests. My friend and I signed up for the Air Force Buddy Plan. He was selected despite being a high school dropout but I was rejected. I later tried the Navy and flunked the physical. I never got past the Army recruiter after he learned I was previously rejected. The Marine recruiter chased me out in the parking lot after leaving the Army recruiter. He scared me off by showing me his Marine tattoos saying women love them. Then telling me after a few months of training I could go back to my neighborhood kick anybody’s ass and steal their girlfriend. He contacted me about a month later apparently getting my phone number from the Army recruiter. He somehow learned I just got my greetings post card from the draft board. He worked out a scheme to have me contact the Marine recruiter at the draft board physical. I was rejected again by the draft board and the Marine recruiter told me to go on home and you will hear from us soon. I got a phone call the next day from the first recruiter and he chewed my ass for not telling him I had been previously rejected by the Navy for bad hearing. The conversation ended after he said “it’s punks like you that keep me from reaching my quota”. He also made a remark about enjoying my career at Taco Bell even though I never worked there. In 1969 everybody I knew that joined the Marines went straight to Nam. Except one and I don’t know how he did it. Got embassy duty in Belgium.
  19. You guys might be right I don’t know. According to the restaurant owner I worked for when I was age 15. When he was drafted he claimed they were givien a form to fill out selecting Army, Navy or Marines. I might not have the numbers correct. He claimed if you selected Marines they handed a $20 bill, 5 for Navy and nothing for Army. He picked the Navy, became a Frogman. He was fluent in Italian and the northern and southern dialects. He claimed he was air dropped to operate a radio listening station monitoring Italian radio traffic then relaying it back to the Navy. After being dropped in the wrong location, radio equipment never arrived. He joked about sitting out most the war working as a farm laborer.
  20. Thx Karl for the reminder. Seems to me I recently saw something on TV about the WW2 Marine casualty lists and film was more or less censored on Roosevelt’s order. I can’t remember which island it was. After some film footage made the news reels and the number of casualties released. Marine recruitment numbers were drastically reduced. If I recall correctly Marine brass unsuccessfully put pressure on the War Department and Roosevelt enabling the Marines and Navy to participate in the draft. Far as I know it never happened.
  21. I capitulated, got the vacs then wore masks after being turned away from two different Dr appts for not being masked. I was born in 1950 and knew two kids die young in the 50’s from Polio. As late as mid 60’s knew a teenage girl become partially crippled from Polio. Far as I’m concerned the Polio vaccine saved a lot of lives so I can’t take a dim view of vaccinations. I do have doubts about the masks. When I was hospitalized after a stem cell harvest and transplant and given a massive dose of chemo. While recovering I wore a mask in the ICU but it was changed several times throughout the day and night. Visitors had to mask up and wear a paper gown. Staff told me my immune system was compromised and leaving the mask on for an extended time was also hazardous as the mask’s warm moist environment was a breeding ground for bacteria and viruses. I wonder if people wearing the washable masks all day or even longer might be getting sick from bugs growing in the mask.
  22. The military 556 has slightly thicker brass. I assume it’s the entire cartridge as the 556 necks eyeball a bit thicker. Internet baloney about 10,000 PSI difference is just something in one’s mind as far as I’m concerned.
  23. For what it’s worth. I had two I think they’re called something like Osprey planes fly over head. They are the prop driven planes that can rotate the propellers up and fly like a helicopter. What surprised me was how quiet hey were. When I was a kid in the 50’s. Friends and I watched numerous military planes fly into Luke AFB. They were all very loud especially the twin engine fighter I believe was named P-38. The turbo powered planes are much quieter.
  24. A chicken or egg first question. Was the 5.56 or 223 Remington first?? I know they are different cartridges but I can recall Bill Ruger claiming his tests with his then new Mini-14 claimed the difference was insignificant.
