About a year or so I got a prostate exam by a bull dyke PA. MY urologist appt was about a month away and I was desperate for a Flomax Rx so I went to a walk-in clinic. She insisted no exam no script. Years ago a Dr friend of my dad volunteered a couple days a month at a clinic. He did a prostate exam, hit a sensitive spot and the patient jumped hitting his head on a door. The patient a farm worker and likely an illegal going through a Chicano org demanded compensation for a severe headache. The Dr told my dad he had to give the guy 500 bucks to go away.

I had the same problem with HPs. At one time I had four PA 63s I bought cheap using them as trading goods. I just can’t recall the brand as all I have left is what is in the mag of the PA 63 I kept. The behind the iron curtain HP ammo is copper washed, Berdan primed and the HPs are reliable. I think it was Hornady or another name brand USA mfg that wouldn’t empty a mag in the PA without at least one failure. They worked fine though in my Russian Mak. A neighbor claims he’s using 380+P HPs in his PA 63 and Bulgarian Makarov and they run reliably. Don’t know if what he says is true as I’ve never seen 380+Ps other than Buffalo Bore hard cast. I’ve put plenty of 380s through my PA and Maks. The 380s run but accuracy is piss poor after 15 yards launching a .355 bullet down a .363 bore. A few years ago after a box of 380s copper fouled the bore of my Mak and it took some scrubbing with Sweets solvent to clean it out.

Back in the late 60s one of my shooting buds brought his live-in companion to a clinic to deliver their baby. My friend had just started as an election apprentice and didn’t have insurance. Shortly after they arrived they were told she wasn’t ready and it could be a few days to a few more weeks. After she was examined by the Dr there was something different or unique. The Dr asked if they didn’t mind staying a little longer, asking her if she wouldn’t mind having some students examine her. More than 20 students arrived. My friend and all the visitors were told to leave the ward Apparently the students likely because of inexperience were a bit rough examining and probing her lube tube. She screamed for my friend awaiting out the door telling him they are hurting me make them stop. My friend was a die hard red neck and he made it clear no more. After one of the students said she has to because she’s a clinic patient. My friend lost his temper began beating on the student along with the Dr and another student as they tried to break it up. My friend spent the night in jail but was released the following morning as the Dr and students declined to press charges. About a week later they returned, delivered the baby and according to my friend they treated her like a queen giving her a private room instead of the maternity ward.

A few months ago I refused sedation for a lung biopsy. Didn’t take me long to regret it. I lied telling the admitting staff I was using Uber for transportation as I was unaccompanied. I didn’t want to get doped up so I could drive home safely. If there is ever a next time I will really use Uber and take the drugs.

My parents had a portable tube Philco AM radio. It used a large round dry cell battery. According to Mom they only used it a few times as the batteries were expensive and only good for a couple of hours. As a kid in the 50s I can recall bringing the radio into the foxhole we dug in the backyard to play Army.

I've been tempted to buy a 500 or thousand round block of Rusky 223. If Uncle Joe has his way US made or brass 223 could become scarce and pricey. I'm in good shape with steel 762X39, I still have plenty on SKS stripper clips. I'm a bit hesitant on the steel 223 as there has been net chatter claiming it's hard on AR extractors. A few weeks ago PMC brass 223 was about 50 cents per round or $9.99 for a box of 20. The same ammo has creeped up to about $11.50 per box. Palmetto sold out quick at 9.99 or they pulled their ad and will reintroduce it later for a higher price. There's no more $9.99 metal AR mags. I imagine Uncle Joe's antics has something to do with it. I haven't checked but the lung tearing out 9MM BS has probably been effective in creating hoarding and price increases.

I loved South Dakota, my close friend's daughter foot the bill and we visited all the tourist hot spots. I wore a MAGA hat most the time and got plenty of handshakes from strangers. Years ago, mid 70's. One of my auto parts customers traveled around desert locations cutting down Mesquite trees. He sold Mesquite drill blocks via mail order ads in trade magazines. According to his former employer. He quit his job to fill a large order he got from a Taiwan factory. Here in central Arizona Mesquite trees grow like weeds. Mesquite trees that get a lot of water tend to split apart and heavy branches fall off. The hard Mesquite grows wild and gets just enough water to keep it barely alive. I found out after allergy testing years ago I'm allergic to Mesquite and avoid it.

According to the brochure I got. By refusing to take the oath and claim to be affiliated with a Communist organization would get a free pass and likely a visit by FBI. My first physical was before Nixon established the birthday draft lottery. The draft board was taking dam near anything warm with a pulse. Poor hearing got me classified 1-Y. I was ordered for a second physical and a reevaluation a bit more than a year later. I was reclassified 4-F. On my way out after the second physical. There were two hippies burning their draft cards in front of a news camera. Myself and a few other rejects were accompanied to the parking lot is by two MPs with billy clubs and a guy dressed in a suit and tie, likely FBI.

According to the pamphlet they were handing out they were from The Socialist Worker’s Party of ASU.

Times have really changed. In my 1969 draft physical. All the queers were separated along with hard core drug addicts and other rejects. I was told the queers were further evaluated to determine if they were real or fakers. I didn’t see it but was told a guy in our group showed up in a garter belt and stockings on shaved legs. I did see a black guy that was vocally protesting the draft and war taken away in handcuffs. He attempted to enter an adjacent room that had a large sign saying female physical in progress and bold letters “DO NOT ENTER”. As I left he was outside marching with the hippie draft protesters.

Late 50 or early 60s my Boy Scout troop got a lecture and slide presentation about the balloons. It was basically don’t touch, don’t take pictures, leave area ASAP, tell your scoutmaster and report to police, forest ranger, fireman etc. Far as I know there were never any found in Arizona.

I worked with a guy with a similar job in Korea. He was quiet, kept to himself and rarely spoke unless spoken to first. I did see him change for a few days after a new hire told a joke that really made him laugh. The following morning as soon as he saw the joke teller he got a big smile on his face and chuckled. Best I recall it was about the only time I saw him smile. I heard second hand from another coworker. He had a traumatic experience going through dead bodies weeding out Americans after a suicide attack by the Chinese that were being bulldozed into pits.

I’d like to get hands on one of the Carcano the Germans converted to 8MM as a collection piece. I’d be scared shootless to shoot it with factory or surplus ammo but would put some mild hand loads through it. From what I recall reading back in the 80s. The WW2 German surplus ammo was 10,000 lbs more pressure than the 7.35 Carcano cartridge.

Back during the Obozo shortages I believe it was the CEO of Federal that did a YouTube apologizing for the primer shortage saying they are all being used to keep up with ammo orders. You’re right about the drugs. An ER nurse told me there has been a spike in overdoses due to Fentanyl. She told me it’s being disguised as OxyContin tablets. It just keeps flowing across the Mexican border. Local news reported an unaccompanied 10 year old was caught smuggling Fentanyl recently. Back in the late 60s we had a hell of a time sneaking fireworks and switch blades across. Had a good share of firecrackers confiscated when I was a teenager. Border guards are probably letting many people and cars cross without being searched.

Guess the primers are all going where the money is. Producing over priced ammo. With little to none rifle ammo being manufactured there shouldn’t be a shortage of large rifle primers. With a lot of 45 ACP now being made with small pistol primers and handgun ammo using large primers being scarce. There should be plenty of large pistol primers. My only guess the primer manufactures must be letting their machinery that produces large primers sit idle or converted it to make small primers for the $20+ 9MM or 35+ 38 Special ammo. It seems the bullet manufactures are geared up to only make FMJs. Soft nose or hollow point ammo being scarce and ridiculously high priced. Just today I received two 20 rd boxes of 9 MM Silver Tips for 19.95 each + freight from J&G. It’s the cheapest I’ve seen Silver Tips since the shortages began. I know the price was out of line but my SD ammo is all about 3-4 years old. I can’t recall the numbers, think it was about 2.50 per round of 45 ACP Silver Tips I said screw it. I’d like to tell the manufactures and distributors to kiss me while I’m being bent over and screwed. They must be laughing all the way to the bank. I have had a preference for Silver Tip ammo for many years. Back in the 80s Home Depot was selling damaged or torn bags of drywall mud dirt cheap. I took a bunch out to the desert and shot it. Most bullets simply left a clean hole. Bags I shot with 45 and 38 Special Silver Tips exploded. Home Depot quit selling the damaged bags after being leaned on by the state govt. Seems I wasn’t the only one testing and leaving the plaster mess in the desert. It was about the same time G&F Wardens began issuing tickets to target shooters leaving a mess in the desert. Im in fairly good shape with primers. I hoarded primers toward the end of the Obama shortages. I wouldn’t trust my life with the oddball brand as I did have some failures to go bang. Some are Ill fitting and several years ago I tossed some large rifle as they fell out of the primer pocket. I can’t recall the brand name. A European brand in purple boxes had about 3-4% failure to go bang. Surprisingly Wolf brand large pistol primers fit properly and we’re 100% reliable. S&B primers were 100% but took some extra elbow grease to seat properly. I got a bad batch of Remington small rifle. Many were simply just the cup without any innards. Remington did make it good, sent me more than I sent them. My favorite Winchester brand have all disappeared from retailers it seems. Way back in the 70s I had problems with CCI and haven’t bought any since. Don’t have any left but Federal primers were the best for mag rifles especially for DuPont stick powder. Rarely leaving any unburned powder kernels behind. If any of our regular members are local I might be able to spare some oddball brand primers. It’s just a real hassle and very expensive to ship explosives. Myself a former USPS employee I can’t play dumb by putting them in the mail. With Phoenix being an illegal drug hub from Mexico UPS opens and inspects everything shipped by individuals. Several years ago FedEx returned some primed 300 H&H brass I sold on eBay. It went right through after I deprimed it. Don’t know how they caught it. It was left at my door with a sheet of hazmat instructions.

The major difference is Ukraine is not being attacked on two fronts. In 1944 Poland had to fight Germany from the west and Russia from the east. I have a vague recollection of seeing a film of Polish Calvary preparing to do battle with German tanks. The Pols didn’t have a chance against German armor and the overwhelming numbers of Soviet troops.

I can recall President Trump when speaking about bringing up the readiness of the US Military. He remarked about the Army not having enough ammunition. I don’t have a problem with the govt firing up the old ammo plants. I suppose it likely started under Trump and my guess Biden will probably shut it down. It could possibly help increase the supply from domestic manufacturers for civilian use as they might be relieved of govt contracts. I recall a few years ago Dept of Homeland Security ordered millions of 40 S&W ammo. For a while I had trouble finding 40 S&W ammo or brass. At the time a Cabela’s sales clerk told me it would be several months but he also successfully twisted my arm into buying their private label 40 S&W with nylon jacketed bullets. It could have been total BS as the only 40 they had was their private label and some way-way over priced Buffalo Bore.

Got to handle one but never got a chance to shoot it. I look at the Desert Eagle as a fun gun and possibly for use in handgun hunting. From photos I’ve seen of the Desert Baby Eagle. It appears to be just another CZ clone made in Turkey with a healthier price tag. I’ve blown up photos of the Baby Eagle and saw made in Turkey stamped on the frame. I drew the same conclusion about my S&W 460. Pretty much useless and not fun at all after a few shots. Took it along on a couple unsuccessful HAM hunts (handgun, archery, muzzle loader season) for Javalina and Deer but never got a shot off. I’ve had my 460 on the trading block looking for a M1A or possibly an all original US Krag. Originally wanting a S&W 50 cal but after shooting five rds I said no way. I hit the target dead on first shot but flinched terribly on the remaining four shots. My 460 is very accurate shooting 45 Colt with recoil milder than 38 Special.

Swampy, several years ago a neighbor’s son was visiting. He is an engineer from McDonnel Douglass Defense. He claimed properly done investment casting is superior to forged parts. He had a AMT Hardballer Longslide. The slide and frame rails were worn after 10,000 rds. He spoke in tech terms way above my pay grade claiming an idiot did the investment casting. He pointed out what appeared to have been a bubble on a rail. I think Ruger has proven the strength of their investment cast frames.

I wish I could buy one, my problem is not having six figures of disposable cash!! At my gun club an old man came in with a long barreled Colt with matching number shoulder stock and matching number wood carry case. One of the members approached him and all I heard the old man say “I’m sorry I already declined a $100,000 offer”. At a meeting I missed the old man came in with a similar set up but it was a long barreled cap and ball.

Must drive Colt collectors crazy trying to accumulate all the differences. I wouldn’t have noticed many of the changes if the narrator hadn’t pointed it out.
