  1. AZ, I will run this past my son who just finished his 2nd year of law school. If he has studied this type of law he'll know where to look into it. It's a good thing for all of us to know something about, really.
  2. Z, what's "swamping" the barrel mean? Also, how do you keep the heat in the chip and not the barrel? I've run lathes for some time, (not barrel work), but I've never heard this put this way. Is this a coolant practice?
  3. It's not all luck, Brendan, it's more like Horsefly says. Good for ya! Ron
  4. Nice rifle to say the least. Typical high quality workmanship coming from Z. As much as I adore the English red stock, I was really glad to see Mikes rust blue in such a good photograph. I love it - must save my pennys!

    Vz24 Price Check

Every VZ24 in Clevelandville is; priced higher than that, pitted or worn smooth and never matching. Normally 250 and up.
  7. Thanks DT. It seemed like it was whatever AO sold it as, meaning it didn't look abused. He claimed they sell for 350 new which seemed low to me.
  8. A friend is looking at trading for a Thompson Auto Ordnance 1911 .45. It shows no model # just West Hurley NY. I'm unfamiliar with 1911's in general. This is very basic, no work done. Rear sight is windage adjustable only. Seems solid. He's gonna trade a Savage 17HMR, w/scope a couple years old, never fired. Does anyone here know if they're okay, junk, average...? Thanks in advance, Ron.
  9. It's comforting to know there's someone better than 10 yrs younger than me with so much Mauser knowledge. It's a young mans hobby again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  10. Aw he don't look a day over 90. LOL. Have a good one and many, many more.
  11. I agree with Dave, a real looker. Same for the 2 in the other thread - wild piece of maple on your brother's gun. I've worked in metal all my life so my eyes go straight to the wood first.
  12. Interesting, thanks. As the lady said, "a rose is a rose is a rose."
  13. Sounds cool. What finish was on the stock prior? I'm assuming you put this on an existing finished stock. Ron
  14. Given a choice and assuming to build a sporter (although possibly using the original barrel if good), which Swede is prefered and why? I've read of 3 mfg - Gustav, German and Husqvarna. I've only seen the M38 Huskie and the Gustavs. They seem very similar to my untrained eye.
  15. Thanks, Brad. Good info to know. Maybe Don Markey needs to get his hand on a good extractor and start making them. He's pretty sharp with his machines. Sounds like he'd have no problem selling them.
  16. I read that some kids parents turned him in for having explosive ingredients. At least these parents were on their game. The stuff was ammonium nitrate. He bought 10 or 20 lbs off e-bay. Well at least they no longer allow rifle stocks and barrels. We're all much safer now. Unf$&!?*g believable.
  17. I'm curious about a Mark X I looked at. It looks to be marked like the pictures Z posted for Brenden. In my searches here, I find mixed feelings about these, but can't realy find anything negative about this one. Description and markings: Left rail- Alexandria Vriginia - Interarms - Manchester England Elsewhere- Made in Yugoslavia - 4 digit S/N It is a scaled down 98 recvr. .223 caliber, no full length extractor, it's Sako style. No inner torque shoulder. The thing is tight, feels smooth and looks well made. What's the connection from Yugoslavia to England to Virginia? Also, is there a source to date it by s/n? Thanks, Ron
  18. Guys, do we have a member in the upper half of Ohio that has the license to receive a recvr for me? I'm considering buying an action from Z out in Colorado, but I don't have anyone here in Cleveland to accept it. Thanks, Ron
  19. I'm glad for ya. There's no damn sense in pushing the shelf life of gun powder.

    Stock Shaping

Wow. Don't know whether to thank Weaver for the answer or Bilurey for the question!! I've done a similar deal to a stock. Came out okay, too. But not anywhere near as thought out as that. Your process is much better. Thanks for the great tutorial. Ron
  21. That's good to hear. He owes nothing if he's busy and I remember his wife being ill. Thanks for the info and tell him hello.
  22. I almost hate to bring stuff like this up, but it seems a long time since Dave aka "straight shooter" has added his .02 cents worth to any posts. Just hope he's okay. Does anyone know him or communicate with him other than electronically?
  23. +1 AZ. Tenacity is THE word.
  24. When I was 12, I had my tonsils out. I hemorraged pretty bad and was there 3 days. I remember being "out" for most of the 2nd day. Fast forward 42 years. I arrived at a hospital yesterday at 11:00 AM. at 2:00 I was in surgery having 2 vertabrae drilled open in my lower neck to relieve nerves that were crushed from bad discs. I signed my realease papers at 1:00PM today and was home at 2:00. 26 hours total hospital stay. There's gonna be some extensive therapy before my left hand works properly, but never the less, that's pretty amazing what they did. And right now just some soreness around the neck. I'll be back on the Higgins stock in no time! LOL. PS; Some guys will do anything for a few days off.
