  1. Dave could you give us your best guesstament on just how much ductape it took to put your arse back on after the Missus explained the effects of muzzle blast to you.It took over a roll and a half for me,but a crow didn't cause it a telemarketer did. Before we got on the no call list you couldn't do anything without the phone ringing and some trying to sell you something so one day I loaded up my 44mag and laid it on top of the frig and every time one would call I would just step out on the back porch and hold the phone and 44 out trogether and let fly, really enjoyed the hell out of it too till momma got home and I didn't know it, she was just getting out of her rig and coming up the sidewalk after a long day at work when she says the door flew open and I stuck a damn big pistol out of it and went to cussin rarein' and shootin'.Yep I'd say a good roll and a half maybe two now that I get to thinking about it. Jim
  2. Awful sorry to hear about your brother spec, you'all will be in our thoughts and prayers. Jim
  3. Mauserfever, the crow thing has to do with ducks and Mexico.I've read it a time or two but can't remember the details something to the effect that in order to get some kind of limits on ducks south of the border we had to put seasons on crows here in the states(seems this agreement might even include Canada ??),but I can't remember why they were so big on crows. And Horsefly I think we need to do a test on the politician, block thing, probably need to do it thousands and thousands of times to make sure we come up with the right info, before trying it with lawyers. Jim
  4. You nailed it Kieth! It's folks that don't have to put up with this stuff that wants it,we sure don't need timber wolves, there is a damn good reason our forefathers worked so hard at getting rid of em' and it takes a complete idiot to think different.I've heard rumors of MDC releasing pigmy rattlers here too, what a waste of my tax dollars not to mention human skin used on the fools that dreamed it up. Jim
  5. Damned no good inbred bunny huggin' culls in our conservation department put it in our state wildlife regs a few years ago that ALL snakes are protected ,notice how the sneekin' low lifes made it a regulation, they knew theyd get it rammed in their backside if they tried to go through the state legislator and make it a statute. You should of seen the look on the face of the squinty eyed little long dress wearing bee-itch that was pushing it when several of us promised we wouldn't kill em' on our farms but would capture them alive and relocate them(her suggestion for problem reptiles)to her yard and her childerens play ground, nobody ever did it that I know of but we did repeat her address to her to make sure we had it correct.I did however take them what was left of the last deer that cost me a insurance deductable, had to haul it 50 miles to leave it in there parking lot but told them since they werent going to do anything about my truck they needed to do somthing with there stinking carcase as I didnt want it stinking up the hog & turkey farms in my area, damn funny how if you do one little thing outside there regulations they'll hang your ass over their deer but hit one and tear a rig up and your on your own. We've not had a decent game warden for years around here, all we get is these little wet behind the ears college educated pricks that dont have sense enough to know that the BOOK can't cover it all ,but if it aint in the book ....Damnit I hate possum cops and copperheads. Jim
  6. Fritz, you missundestand. I was surprised to hear that you buy your meat, just kind of figured you raised your's too, we figure a 1/2 of a beef and a whole hog per mouth per year and it works out good with the game killed and fish caught.Butchering time is still a big event around here, lots of fun.Cattle is my second largest souce of income and someday my only , good Lord willing. And with the price of beef in stores, you almost had me doubting you were a true Dutchman lol... Brad you better be careful what you say, turkeys arent as dumb as everyone says....well ok theyre worse but still they... well maybe they ....aw the heck with it. Jim
  7. Happy bithday Jerry! And many more to ya'. Jim
  8. You really buy beef? Other than eating out I couldn't tell you how many years it's been since we've bought beef, or pork for that matter. Jim
  9. Gunner, when tapping it's a good idea to use carbon steel taps so if you break one you can shatter whats left of it in the hole with a punch, the hard taps can be a real bear to get out when they break off.Use a guide or jig of some kind too,and some folks even recomend a fresh carbon steel tap for each hole. Not a bad idea, especially on a feller's first ones' it's cheap insurance.Just take it slow and easy and use lots of good cutting & tapping oil and you'll do fine, Jim.
  10. Let us know how you make out, I'm sure I'm not the only one thats' interested.Whats the deal with the north store?Do you know, do you just show up with your paper work , or do you have to make prior arangements of some kind? Jim.

Kingsman,Clemson & limpid lizard have both given real good info. And yes the VZ-24's are getting hard to find.Mauser models are very confusing and keep me scratching one end of my anatomy or the other. I think the reason most folks prefer to build on something other than a Yugo is the limited supply of drop in stocks for the Yugo length actions ,but a Yugo 24 will make you a fine .257 and shouldn't give you any feeding problems to speak of.Not to muddy the water any more than nesassary but a couple other options you might want to consider for donner rifles are the Yugo rearsanaled K98's some of the suppliers are offering and the 24/52's,I think Samco has the 24/52's and they are VZ-24 actions (just learned that from Z a few days ago) Both of the above are standard length actions and about the same price.Like Clemson I prefer the older Yugo's starting with the 24 then the 24/47 then the 48's last ,seems to me the older ones are just a little better made ,slicker ,better finished maybe just not as roughly machined as the 48's.The Turks that LL mentioned are also standard length but I dont care alot for them as most are rougher than I care to tackle and require a small thread barrel( not a problem for a .257 )Good Luck!! And a word of warning. Once bitten by this bug and you get a full dose of sporterize fever your toast, there is no cure and it only gets worse. Jim
  12. I'm thinking on trying to do the CMP thing and have been looking around the internet at what is involved ,on the CMP website it says something to the effect that if you have a C&R or a CCW that these satisfy the criteria for the requirement of having participated in a marksmanship activity. If this is the case I'm covered on those, but I've read on a couple different boards where people are saying that has recenly been changed and that niether the C&R or the CCW will fullfill the marksmanship activity requirement??Anyone around here know? Thanks Jim
  13. Ya know I have the majority of those 200 channels and there still ain't a helluva lot fit to watch to my way of thinkin'.If it wasn't for the wife I'm not sure I'd own a tv.As far as the Patriot and the Academy goes I think they are about made for one another, both of em' are full of their selves to the point of makin' my ass hurt. While I have no use what so ever for the Academy and their worthless awards,I wish the Patriot wasn't so long winded cause I agree with them on alot of issues but that bunch is just like my mother in-law they can go on the longest and say the least, but I reckon that's politics. As far as Larry Mcmurtry goes,I can't say he wouldn't be where he is today if Lonesome Dove would have been about a bunch of damned queers, but I can guarandamntee you I'd not of bought the book or watched the show.I say piss on Hollywood. Jim
  14. Kingsman, I agree with Jerry on the .257 it's a super round based on the 7x57 so feeding shouldn't be a problem as it might or might not be with the .308 .When you say a 24 action I'm not sure which 24?But which ever one should be fine but like Jerry already said stocks for the shorter Yugo 24 actions are not as plentyful as they are for the Chech VZ-24 ,I might be wrong as it happens alot but I can only think of one synthetic stiock that is a drop in for a yugo so I kind of lean to the VZ-24 over the Yugo 24 as everyone makes stocks for the standard length VZ-24s.My first one was a .257 on a Yugo, great gun,it's in a Boyd's nutmeg laminated now after wearing a cut up military stock for alot of years. This is a lot of fun ,hope you enjoy it as much as the rest of us. Jim
  15. Jerry ,sorry about being so late with this but I've not been around for a few days. You'all are in our prayes, Jim.
  16. My oldest daughter made me a grandpa for the first time this morning.A perfect little girl 7lbs 15ozs. Momma and baby are fine and I'm on cloud 9. Bought her a Cricket .22 today one of the little stainless jobs with a pink laminated stock and signed her up as NRA member, grandma thinks I might be gettin' ahead of myself a little LOL..Well got the most of my chores done so I better get cleaned up and get back to the hospital, grandma left an hour ago and I cant let her do all the spoilin' ya' know.Hope all you folks have had a fraction of the day I've had, it's been a dandy here!!! Jim
  17. Congrats OD !! Three boy's,you are really blessed.
  18. If I have to do it 100% from scratch I'd have to say a darn good club is about all I could ever hope for. but if I was able to buy a barrel I'd probably do the smart thing like you and try a single shot .22 of some flavor, and probably still end up with a club. Jim
  19. Does Graf & Sons offer a C&R discount?? Thanks Jim
  20. Jerry, don't know what Dave is going to tell you and I sure aint a expert on em' as I've only owned one in my life(kind of got the red ass for anything to do with the Britts) but I would call my very limited experience with them JUNGLE LOVE !!!Picked up a original jungle carbine last fall ,probably the only real bargin I've ever got on a gun at a gunshow. It aint a show piece and I figured as fuzzy as the bore was it would never shoot but it really puts them in there, nice and short and light, just handles the best is nice to pack and easy to get poked out a truck window. It's won a place in my heart for that fact as I've put the bodad on several dogs and coyotes that were runnin' my cows with it.It is my truck gun now. Jim
  21. Karl, hope things work out for you and Tawny.I'm not a cat person but my brother and sister-in-law are big into cat's and I've heard them mention more than once about making sure that the ash level of the cat feed was kept as low as possible to prevent kidney problems. If the situation is right you might talk it over with your vet, again good luck, Jim.

    Barrel vise

So thats what I was hearing, stay with it Kenny you'll get her.I use the B-square vise and really like it,didn't care for the Midway vise at all but get along real good with their action wrench. Good luck ,Jim.
  25. Yea that 60 degree weather was nice here too but it's been about zero here the last two nights, old cows had three calves friday/friday night then had a pair of twins last night, she's claimed em' both but I'm gonna put one on a cow that lost hers last week, don't know how the old girls do it in this weather but at least it's dry here thats a big help.Got a bunch of heifers due to start cavin' March 1st ,had one abort a few weeks back ,some are springin' pretty heavy thought for sure they'd been tryin' to have em' the last few nights from the looks of things, lost alot of sleep over it this last week for nothing and will lose alot more before its over(checking them every few hours 24/7),but one of my biggest pleasures is just sittin' and watching good cattle in good grass,I could sit and watch em' for hours if I had the time, strange I reckon but different strokes for different folks. Jim
