    Barrel vise

Kenny, give it a good soaking with Kroil first thing. Next try the rosin like the other boys have said and I have even heard of some fellas having to epoxy the bushings to the barrel when using the Midway vise, but the thing I find works best for me on stubborn ones is to get the barrel as tight as possible in the vise, then instead of just trying to turn it off put about a 2ft. cheater bar on your wrench and put a fair amount of pressure on it and give the handle of your wrench a good fast sharp lick with a hammer, works kind of like a impact wrench .Most of the time I'm in no hurry and I just set the barreled action down in a 5gal. bucket of diesel action end first and let it soak but I have seen dry threads on a few after as long as 2 wks of soaking so I think the hammer blow is the real deal , nothing beats a bfh for this chore. Also heard a propane torch while not getting hot enough to hurt the reciever will give you enough heat to do it too but I'm not big on the idea and haven't done it myself. Jim
  2. Thanks FC ! I dont remember you having it ,but I have that problem alot ,wish I knew of a special to post now lol.. DT you crack me up,I thought for a while Jimro might win the essay contest just for being the long windest but I think uncle rainbow has it nailed myself. Jim
  3. Tony, had this on my mind for a spell and thought I'd throw it out at you so it would stop rollin' around my empty head.I was wondering about a specials or sale forum, once in a while I bumble onto a special that one of the suppliers or importers is having but I usually hear about it here but usually to late, kind of like the Turk deal mentioned in the sporterizing forum a few days ago.I know some folks are good to post it in the sporterizing section like the deal on A&B barrel & stock combos awhile back but seems I miss alot more than I hit and figured it might help alot of folks here if there was a forum where if you come across a special of some kind you could post it to let everyone else know too. Another site I go to once in a while has one and to tell you the truth thats about all I go there for.No biggy and it might be a total waste of space ,time and money but I wanted to toss the idea out at you,not that you need anything else to take up your time. Thanks for all you do I really enjoy it here. Jim
  4. Jason ,Jerry is giving you some advice you'd do well to remember. But Jerry I've been through what your wife is going through with her momma,I went through it with both my folks and they've been gone about ten years now and it was HELL ,and there aint a day goes by that I dont miss em' but your wife is gonna love you big time for what your doin' ol son dont doubt that . Jim
  5. Hey boys are these the FEG PA63 in 9x18 that J&G and some others are advertising ?And if they are what ammo do youall run in em'. Jim
  6. milsurpcollector,I've put off posting this hoping youd get the help you were looking for but ...Awhile back ,maybe as long as a couple years ago when the forum was still at Ezboard this subject was disscussed at length and folks posted pictures etc...,I was interested in these actions at that time myself. It has been so long now that I dont remember any of the details but I do remember that the fly in the ointment was the bolt but I cant recall just what about the bolt it was ,but it was a big enough deal that for me and my limited expereince that I decided to steer clear of them .Sorry I cant be of more help, Jim .
  7. OK but who's the dude with the mustache??
  8. Yes FC the ground, don't have a clue about the uniforms .I kind of figure it might of been their only set of clothes and they were buried in them as times were pretty rough , but its only a guess on my part. Jim
  9. I wish I knew something about them ,saw one yesterday at a show for $525 and it really looked pretty sharp wood all matched and it wasnt beat all to pieces , park even all matched and the bore looked good too ,was going to talk to the guy but heard him blowing smoke up another guys arse about what it took to get a C&R and figured I'd just get lied to ,and skinned too as most of the time around here they start at about $700 and go up but I'm having a rough time not going back.I actually saw several guns that were worth the money yesterday. Jim
  10. monte , I,m proud for you ! I wish you all the best with your new life, and again thanks for your service. Jim
  11. I'm Jim, born and raised in the Missouri Ozarks.Married to the same woman for 23 years ,got 2 girls 21 and 18, and farm for a living. I got my education at the university of Missouri ,tractor seat campus majored in driving in circles and playin' in the dirt lol...This farm was cleared by my great great great Grandfather and his sons in the early 1800s.My great Grandfather and his brother are buried on it down by the creek where they were killed while picking corn in 1864 by trash Yankee raiders for the crime of wearing gray uniforms. It stayed in the family going to another brother until my Grandfather died of TB in the late twentys and Grandma lost it during the depression. The sob that ended up with it wasnt a fan of gray uniforms and removed my great Grandfathers /uncles headstones and plowed and planted over the graves for alot of years ,Dad managed to get it back in the early 50s when the sob got in a tight spot.Rumor has it that he threw the headstones in the river, dont reckon I'll ever find em' but I know where the sob's is and it aint a rumor that his grave has been pissed on.Dad put some markers back up but said he was just a kid the last time he saw the originals but thinks he got them back pretty close.Well enough family fued, I've been a gun nut as long as I can remember, got into sporterizing some years back and wish I had more time to do it,and just a pinch of the tallent of some of the folks here, you'all have really been a big help to a dumbass farmer! thanks ,Jim.
  12. Very nice Clemson ! And again thanks for your time and trouble. Jim
  13. Yes most of the time it does, but it's not hard to reharden , I just use kasenit. Got mine from Brownells, it's cheap , very simple to do and comes with easy instructions, just heat your part and sprinkle the powder on it or just dunk it . Jim
  14. Alot of truth to the saying an armed society is a polite society.
  15. Rod how you gettin along with that bum foot?Been meaning to ask ya forever but have the part timers pretty bad.Jim
  16. Learning to cook was one of the worst things I ever did cause I like to eat and Ill fix myself a hell of a spread all to often.fritz sounds to me like your on your way to bein' as fine a cook as ever straddled a pot.Jim
  17. Boys I love the sound of it ,I really do .I'd like nothing better than for farmers to put the A-rabs out of business but I'm afraid you just as well get both hands ready because all you can do on this one is wish in one and hump up and take a good one in the other one cause it cant happen.Theres not enough grain grown or ground to grow it in the United States of America to even come close, not to mention the farmers to do it anymore .Now if someone can figure out how us farmers can get about 10 crops planted raised and out of the fields in one growing season we'll have em by the a$$ on the fuel end of things but then we'll still need to eat so don't let yourself develope a taste for camel or the bastards(Dave H excluded) will have us again. My tractors and combines are greased up and ready to go at any time, hope you'all are right I really do. Jim
  18. Thanks Clemson ! Nice of you to take the time and go to all the trouble. Jim
  19. fritz you hit the nail square on the head when you said you hoped we could grow enough grain to make soy diesle and our food.We cant, its that simple.Recently when our legislators went to pushing for all the gas in Mo. to be 10% ethanol one of the things that came to light after they showed theire selves was that Mo. farmers dont grow that much corn. I dont have the figures in front of me but while were not the #1 corn producing state in the union we are alot closer to the top than the bottom in corn production and alot closer to the bottom then the top in gas used and we (farmers) cant even cover the 10%.I know you'all were talking diesle but it aint exactly apples and oranges. Dreams

fritz when I'm not turkey farmin' I'm workin' my other job in town as a dream analist ,I don't want to be accused of being long winded so I'll keep it short.Your dream about the seagull pulling you has to do with all the studying your doing on bird flu and the hoodlums and the muddy lot have to do with the crooks at the court house who put them culverts in on your road.If you think I might be able to stop farmin' and take this up full time let me know, cause shovelin' this kind of manure is alot easier than what I do in the barns. Jim

  24. I've had a on again off again relationship with the NRA for a number of years.About 10 years ago our state coservation department started talking about a cased gun law, that would require all guns transported in the state to be in a case,I was a member of the NRA and of the largest hunting dog org. in the state and was at the meeting where the state first said they might do this.I came straight home called the NRA state rep. and was told the NRA wasnt a hunting org. and that they had actually supported such laws in other states.I told him he was lucky there was phone cable between us or I'd be taking my NRA dues back out of his sorry hide... the consevation dept. got that one crammed in their ass without a lick of support from the NRA.If it weren't for the NRA guns would have been history a long time ago I believe but they sure are a queer bunch to get along with. And they sure piss alot of money away, and I hate those damn phone surveys too,try to guilt you into it,I take them as a insult to my intellegence.Thats why I'm not a member today ,but probably will be again.....Jim
