  1. That stinks Rob sorry to hear it. I think you should listen to Doc . I’d heard of menopause but thought it was just hot flashes , NO!!!! My wife of 35 years turned into something I didn’t know and didn’t want to it was Hell ! Don’t know for sure what turned her around but she’s back to sweetest thing ever...... Good luck.
  2. I’ve given up on my barrels of cucumbers, they have sucked up about all the fertilizer and ain’t put out squat , same plants in the dirt are putting out buckets of cucumbers. Tomatoes in the lick tubs could use twice what I give them, may try them again next year with only 2 plants instead of 4 ,times to short for more time this summer . Peppers seem to be the only thing working in the tubs like they should. I just use soaker hoses and water heavy a time or two a week as needed in the regular garden. Had to spray for squash bugs but think I caught them in time to not be wiped out.
  3. I figured that might be the place , but couldn’t recall the name of it but used to see they’re ads in the magazines a lot. What you doing to the 79 Ford ? I’m playing with a 83 short wide bed . Started life as a 300 six AOD. I bought a wrecked Cobra mustang and stuck a Lunati cam and a Holley on the 5.0 and stuck it and the T-5 in the F150 along with a set of 4.10’s in the rear. It’s fun , sometimes I wish I had taken the time to have converted it over to F. I but I’m old school. Needs paint if I ever can. Then there’s the 67 Belvedere setting in the shop waiting on a 440 or a new owner..... to many projects.
  4. Thanks Tony I enjoyed that. My barrels of cucumbers are not producing like I had hoped. Heat off the barrels Is cooking them in full sun till the vines get on the ground and then they have lots of blooms but no cucumbers, all kinds of bees.... Planted 2 hills in my garden and have gotten 10 + times the cucumbers off them as 6 barrels. I’m having the same problem as you with my buckets and tub’s they need water from above. I firmly believe that “organic “ is an old Indian word for skinny hippy
  5. Nice set up Ralph! Wish mine was that organized.
  6. Glad your back , cool project where did you find a 700r to old hemi adapter? Do they have the same bell housing pattern as some later model molar engine’s?
  7. It’s ridiculous how much ammunition has gone up, reloading components too. A lot of common calibers not worth the cost of reloading if you buy in bulk for plinking. Glad I’m stocked up .
  8. I’m not able to say for sure what causes the difference but they are different. I think part of it is they are raised on dirt and get some kind of trace minerals from that but that can’t be all of it because there’s just to much different between parts of the country . The biggest thing I think is feed the monster factory contract farms play with it daily at the mills. I’ve hauled loads of ground up out of date bakery goods into feed mills by the semi load also ground hard candy because it was a cheaper way for them to get they’re ration to a certain level for this and that. That’s not an option for little guys mine only get ground corn and beans and supplement that I’m not sure is needed, Dad and Grandpa didn’t seem to need it, and mine don’t get it the last 30 days and I can’t tell that they’re missing anything when I cut it out. But the big companies can raise a hog in weeks less time to the same size,I gotta think that’s the main thing. But I’m just a hillbilly in the Ozark’s that fries everything and if it doesn’t taste just right I salt it until it does!
  9. Never gave the tick thing a thought but I can see that . I put poison down on Easter , Memorial Day, the 4th and Labor Day here or they will pack you off. Hate that collateral damage, we had been having a problem with about a 150 pound “overgrown bobtail coon” getting in the trash and coming up on the back porch and tearing up grills and grill covers , one of the back porch post now is kind of roughed up where I put a little salt on that “coons” tail with low bass #6’s as it headed back to the timber in the middle of the night as I was educating it on the evils of back porches. Education seems to have stuck , one more time and I was going to use a lot courser salt and put a end to it . A little body putty and white paint and that post will be better than new ...... I’ve discovered the secret to defeating the selective breeding program is to mercilessly hunt the young innocent ones and remove them from the gene pool before they reach maturity, and besides for a carnivore like me they eat better, but I really don’t like handling them ticky things this time of year but also hate to see them go to waste so what do ya do...
  10. So many I gotta drive a truck to afford to farm ! Naw really not to many, I don’t own enough land to make a living at it . I try to keep about 150 or so brood cows so if it was a perfect world I’d have a few over 300 hundred head counting my calves and bulls. The big packing houses have the hogs all sewn up, I haven’t seen a hog sell at a sale barn in years . I usually just have a boar and a few sows and will raise one litter out of each sow a year. I raise those up to butcher hogs then haul them to a couple small slaughter houses in the area for the folks around home that want a hog for the freezer, mostly friends, family and folks I work with. 35-40 at absolutely the most and usually less but 30 300pound hogs would keep a old man like me busy packing feed sacks and I ain’t as tough as I was 40 years ago!
  11. Az I’ve never bought any feed of any kind in Arizona, I’ve also never bought dog feed in bulk. But I buy hog and cattle feed bulk and have it delivered to my feed bins, they charge a flat $1.00 per mile for hauling it , with a 2 ton minimum for making a batch and 24 ton is a semi load. 12% cow feed with high grade supplement and pelletized cost me $312.00 a ton before delivery. Pelletizing and supplement is almost $100.00 per ton 14% hog fattener/finisher grind mix (not pellets) and middle of the road supplement is the cheapest hog feed I can buy it’s $227.00 a ton before delivery. Both feeds bought in 50 pound sacks cost almost $50.00 a ton more and I have to pick it up at the mill. I buy some of my dog feed in 50pound sacks and it’s way more expensive then my hog feed, I’m thinking if that place is feeding they’re dog feed to hogs it’s because they needed rid of it for some reason . And it should make hogs fat as dog feed has higher fat and protein levels Doc is giving you good advice match ingredients , if one brand doesn’t give you what your looking for try another with the same formula. Nutrition levels can be the same but they will have used a different mix of the same ingredients to get it to the same level . They use heat/steam to shape kibble/pellets That heat can cook a lot of good stuff out if not watched closely.
  12. I’ll loan ya mine Ken , it has a very small chip in the very beginning of the first thread so you have to watch starting it a little closer than you normally would but it works fine as long as you start it straight. If you want it let me know be glad to send it to you , Jim.
  13. Good to hear from you! Please don’t stay away so long . I do enjoy your post even if you are one of THOSE cat people.
  14. Darn your hide Doc ! The first day for a new shirt and you cause me to get coffee stains on it, spewed it out every orifice on my face. GWOS ... Lmao!
  15. Cucumbers are coming on by the buckets now with yellow squash and zucchini. Darn squirrels have signed their death certificates. They have started on my strawberries and even worse got to my first almost ripe tomato . At least they’ll eat good with fresh tomatoes.
  16. Thanks guys it’s appreciated, didn’t think I was ever gonna get her away from grandma but finally snuck around and got it done !
  17. Don’t know much about Karma but my youngest daughter was told 17 years ago at the age of 15 that because of her cancer treatments she’d probably not be able to have kids, so after many years of trying and not having any luck at it her and her husband decided to adopt. When that was all over and done a couple years back they ended up with 4 siblings 2 girls age 1 and 7 and 2 boys ages 5 and 3 the youngest of the boys being autistic. Friday night at 11:31 pm my youngest daughter gave birth to a perfect , beautiful little baby girl making me a grandpa for the 8th time. I’m so proud I could bust ! Because of the virus we weren’t able to be at the hospital and haven’t had a chance to see little Lucy Kay (named after my late mother) in person yet. But they get to come home tomorrow and it’s like Christmas in July around here. Like I said don’t know anything about Karma but it seems like there might just be a little bit of something to it.
  18. Got my first cucumber off my barrels last night, a Diva. Way I got it figured between the cost of everything involved it cost about $150.00 LOL! I think it’s gonna be the checker for raising cucumbers though with the most expensive items being reusable and such a labor saver , I love not having to worry about weeds or watering.
  19. Your in the right Rob , stand your ground.
  20. Had to look up your Frankensquash , hadn’t seen or heard of Hubbard before sounds like it would make good pies. I put out several barrels of cucumbers, 3 different kinds and placed them 1 barrel of each in full sun , partial sun and full shade. Figured the ones in full sun might cook but so far they are doing best, but we’ve not been any hotter than about 95 yet and then only a few days of that before getting back down to the upper 80s. Finally gave up and mulched my strawberries with straw after not being able to find pine straw to try. Darn blight is working on my tomatoes in the garden and powdery mildew on my zucchini from all the rain , need to hit em with copper. And the Japanese beetles are starting in.... good thing I enjoy fooling with a garden it’s awfully easy to get aggravated, need to till again as soon as it’s dry enough or the weeds are going to take over, but I do love fresh stuff and the satisfaction of doing it myself.
  21. Hate to hear ya feel that way ,must suck . My experience is different, seen em turned both ways. I don’t know a lot of folks with loads of money but some that I do came up dirt floor poor, EARNED they’re wealth honestly and are as fine a people as God ever strung through. Just can’t agree with you can’t get rich in the first place unless your a P.O.S
