  1. This is the least I can do for all the help you guys have provided and educated me. I'm happy to do it for the group. If anyone should be thanked though is AzRednek. I'm doing the easy part, he's the one doing all the leg work and going to save us all a bundle on shipping. Not to mention this was also his idea. So... Thanks AZ for your part in this! Now trigger costs. I had Timney quote out the cost of each trigger so I knew exactly what it would cost for each of us since we are ordering so many different types of triggers that very in cost. Here is the quote given to me for each trigger model I asked about AFTER the 20% discount was applied: $75.96 Mosin Nagant $99.96 Rem700 w/safety $75.96 Mauser Featherweight Delux $59.96 Mauser Featherweight $39.96 Mauser Sportsman $39.96 Enfield Sportsman Timney said as long as we order a minimum of 10 at a time they will give us the 20% discount. So if some of you for whatever reason can't commit to what you originally said you could its ok as long as we order qty 10 or more. If everyone stays at model and qty of triggers you have posted in this thread; below is your cost, just look for your name, cost of each trigger and total: Order totals as of this moment: AzRednek: 1 Mosin Nagant @ $75.96 - Total = $75.96 dirtyjim: 2 Mosin Nagant @ $75.96 - Total = $151.92 Rojelio: 1 Mosin Nagant @ $75.96 - Total = $75.96 Brenden: 1 Mosin Nagant @ $75.96 - Total = $75.96 tinkerfive: 1 Mosin Nagant @ $75.96 - Total = $75.96 Ron: 1 Mosin Nagant @ $75.96 - Total = $75.96 diggerdanh: 1 Mosin Nagant @ $75.96 - Total = $75.96 rivitir: 1 Mauser Featherweight Delux @ $75.96 - Total = $75.96 (Changed my order) 2 Mosin Nagant - (rivitir friends) @ $75.96 - Total = $151.92 waterdogz: 1 Mosin Nagant @ $75.96 - Total = $75.96 weaver77: 1 Mosin Nagant @ $75.96, 2 Mauser Featherweight Delux @ $75.96 - Total = $227.88 rdm1962: 1 Mauser Sportsman @ $39.96, 1 Enfield Sportsman @ $39.96 - Total = $79.92 8uck5nort: 1 Mosin Nagant @ $75.96, 1 Mauser Featherweight @ $59.96 - Total = $135.92 gun nutty: 1 Mosin Nagant @ $75.96 - Total = $75.96 Remember: You will need to talk to AzRednek to find out about shipping costs and send the shipping monies to him. I'm only going to collect for the trigger purchase so please only send me those monies. I will PM each of you in the next couple of days and give you my address. If you want to change your order please post here so Az and I know about it. I will make sure the order goes though and all monies are collected, but Az will be checking to make sure Timney gives us the correct order. If you want me to ask about the prices for any other triggers let me know and I can find out and post them here. If you guys have any other questions let me know.
  2. Alright, I received all the changes from everyone so I sent off the email to Timney tonight. I will probably hear back from them in the next day or so, the mfg manager is pretty quick. I also gave him a link to the forum so you guys better be on your best behavior. As soon as I hear back from him I will let you know what he said. ------------- Update ------------- I heard back from Timney. Unfortunately they are only willing to offer us a 20% discount, no more. I asked for a quote for our order so once I receive it I will let each of you know what your totals are. We keep our 20% discount as long as we order a minimum of 10 triggers so if some of you for some reason can not purchase at this time its ok, we are not committed to the full 21 trigger order. The good news is if we ever need more tiggers we know that we can do this again and get the 20% off. Sorry I couldn't get them to do better.

    Carving

You get to cheat with your toy... that is unless your wife doesn't destroy it first. The detail is very nice work. I've been wanting to try my hand at checkering, inlays, and designs for some time now. Thanks for all the tips.
  4. I agree. I think we are about ready to go ahead. I'm going to speak with the GM next week and see what deal I can get for us. I'm going to try and get us 30% - 40% off retail if I can. If anyone else is still interested in getting a Timney trigger we still have a couple days before I contact them so post now! AzRednek: 1 Mosin Nagant dirtyjim: 2 Mosin Nagant Rojelio: 1 Mosin Nagant Brenden: 1 Mosin Nagant tinkerfive: 1 Mosin Nagant Ron: 1 Mosin Nagant diggerdanh: 1 Mosin Nagant rivitir: 1 Mosin Nagant, 1 Mauser Featherweight Delux 2 Mosin Nagant - (rivitir friends) waterdogz: 1 Mosin Nagant weaver77: 1 Mosin Nagant, 2 Mauser Featherweight Delux rdm1962: 1 Mosin Nagant, 1 Enfield 8uck5nort: 1 Mosin Nagant, 1 Mauser Featherweight gun nutty: 1 Mosin Nagant
  5. Since I'm just getting my start in rifle smithing I figured I would start with a timney so I understand better how the trigger assembly works with the bolt. That and its less then half the price of a double. But ultimately I want to convert it to a double. Ever since I seen Quigley I wanted a rifle like that with a double trigger. But until I seen public enemies I never knew they built Mausers with double triggers. As I make progress on my Mauser and Mosin I will post pictures, and I'm sure as I make progress I will have many more questions for you pros.
  6. OK, here is the updates I've received thus far: AzRednek: 1 Mosin Nagant dirtyjim: 2 Mosin Nagant Rojelio: 1 Mosin Nagant Brenden: 1 Mosin Nagant tinkerfive: 1 Mosin Nagant Ron: 1 Mosin Nagant diggerdanh: 1 Mosin Nagant rivitir: 1 Mosin Nagant, 1 Mauser Featherweight Delux 2 Mosin Nagant - (rivitir friends) waterdogz: 1 Mosin Nagant weaver77: 1 Mosin Nagant, 2 Mauser Featherweight Delux rdm1962: 1 Mosin Nagant, 1 Enfield 8uck5nort: 1 Mosin Nagant, 1 Mauser Featherweight I'm going to wait another week just in case anyone else is interested or something changes. I'm really hoping to get a total over 20 triggers since I have a feeling they will give us a better discount. Then I'll see about getting this moving.
  7. Hookers... booze... I wouldn't waste it on that! Their are to many rifles I have yet to own!
  8. Once I get the total number of triggers and what model everyone wants I'll speak with Timney and find out not only the discount but also how they want to handle the funds. I agree with you, we don't want to send multiple types of payments since that could cause problems and it wouldn't hurt to ask to see if they would be willing to accept USPS money orders from each of us since that would be a lot cleaner. However, I'm guessing they will want it in a lump sum and on a side note if we offer a lump sum then that will give me another bargaining chip in negotiating the discount. Up to the group. If they do want a lump sum, or if we decide to offer it, I would be happy to handle it then forward the MO to you (AzRednek) made out to Timney for when you go pick them up or I can send it directly to Timney... whatever Timney and you prefer. If anyone is uncomfortable with me handling the money for any reason that's perfectly fine, I understand. I just want to offer my help in any way I can because you guys have helped me and I've learned a lot from each of you. If someone else wants to handle the money that has been here longer that the group feels they can trust, I'm perfectly fine with that. Here are the triggers totals I have collected from this thread. Please look for your name in this list and you can either PM me or post if I need to make any corrections: AzRednek: 1 Mosin Nagant dirtyjim: 2 Mosin Nagant Rojelio: 1 Mosin Nagant Brenden: 1 Mosin Nagant tinkerfive: 1 Mosin Nagant Ron: 1 Mosin Nagant diggerdanh: 1 Mosin Nagant rivitir: 1 Mosin Nagant, 1 Mauser Featherweight Delux 2 Mosin Nagant - (rivitir friends) waterdogz: 1 Mosin Nagant weaver77: 1 Mosin Nagant, 2 Mauser Featherweight Delux rdm1962: 1 Mosin Nagant, 1 (need to know what model!), 1 (need to know what model!), 1 (need to know what model!) AzRednek, how do you want to handle the shipping to each of us after you pick up the triggers? Obviously that cost will need to be taken into consideration and funds will need to be sent to you. Just a suggestion, you can get all of our addresses and find out what the cost will be to ship from your post office to each of us. Maybe flat rate boxes may be easier... your call. I just wanted to offer a couple ideas since you have the biggest job out of this deal. Side thought: if anyone can receive triggers for themselves as well as another members, that would probably save on shipping costs and save AzRednek some foot work.
  9. Just wanted to throw this post out in a place where most people will see it. If you or anyone you know is interested in ordering any triggers from Timney navigate over to the Mosin Nagant section and take a look at the "Nagant Timney Triggers" thread. We are in talks with Timney to order triggers so we can get a discount. Right now Timney is offering us 20% off 10 triggers. I'm hoping if we have enough interest we can get a better discount. Just post what triggers you want and how many. Doesn't matter what you want, Mauser, Enfield, 870 shotgun, whatever triggers Timney makes you want and the qty. As soon as I get the total qty's and types everyone wants I will contact Timney again to negotiate a better discount. Thanks!
  10. Yup. Thats exactly where I seen it. Rojelio, I agree that double triggers are not "necessary" but its not about a need. It's just cool. And I already have a couple good hunting rifles so I'm wanting to turn this into a long range target rifle and change it over from 8mm K98 to 6.5x55 or 7x57. I can't decide. I would really like to try F-Class shooting and I want a light kick so this rifle is primarily going to be "just for fun" shooting. But as was pointed out this will be expensive and difficult to install. So I'm planning on installing a Timney first, then later I'll switch it over to a double.
  11. Are you saying single triggers are more reliable or that it just takes more time in order to install a double trigger?
  12. No problem. I would be glad to see what I can do. I get to do a lot of price negotiation at my job so no problems here. Before I start asking for better pricing I need to know what all triggers the group wants. The more the group is interested in ordering the better pricing I'm sure I could get us. We should probably move this thread to the sporterizing forum so everyone sees it and can chime in on what triggers they want. Once I get some solid numbers on who wants what that will give me some leverage in getting us better pricing.
  13. Thank you for all the great suggestions. Very helpful. I think I'll start with the peanut butter suggestion. Their are some dogs I don't much care for around here.
  14. As you know I'm working on my Mauser project. And the other night I was watching a movie and noticed the rifle the "hero" was sporting looked like a Mauser. It has a spoon handle on the bolt and a double set/hair trigger. Very similar to the picture I attached, a very beautiful rifle. The trigger and finger guard I can't find anywhere. Know of a place I can get one? Do you think this would be good or should I just stick with a single trigger? I've never used a double trigger before so I wanted to ask the group what your thoughts are compared to something like a Timney?
  15. Good thought Az. Also if enough interest is shown for other triggers I can check with the Timney GM and see what kind of discount they can offer. Might as well work all the angles and see what the best price is.
  16. Great news. The GM got back to me and said they are willing to give us a 20% discount if we order 10 triggers at a time. If we order just 10 at a time it will basically take the cost down from $94.95 to $75.96 per trigger plus whatever shipping will be to each of us. The count I got from this thread was 12 nagant triggers, however if we expand to other trigger types I may be able to get us a better discount. Basically instead of us ordering just 12 Nagant Triggers, if people are interested in Mauser/Enfield/etc triggers maybe we can talk them into getting us a better discount say we order 20 or more triggers at once. This is of course if AzRednek is willing to do this. I don't want to assume you would, Az, since you only offered to help with the Nagant triggers. If we had enough interest, and Az didn't want to handle it, I would be willing to have the triggers shipped up here and I could mail them out to everyone (I'm sure 8uck5nort would help me so we can get them to everyone quicker ) only bad part is for most of you the cost would be a little more because of having them shipped up here, then shipped again, but the cost shouldn't be to bad. Personally, I would like to get a Nagant and a Mauser trigger.
  17. Thanks for the little history lesson Az. I had never heard of this before. Why did they bury them? Seems an odd thing to do. I did check over the bolt as you said, didn't see any chinese like markings on it. And the numbers on the bolt match the rifle. I've shot it several times over the years, and so has 8uck. Surprisingly it shoots very well. Its a good rifle, but I'm tempted to change this one over to either a 6.5x55 or 7x57 (or an american version) since the 8mm kicks kinda hard. The rifle is heavy so the kick isn't a problem right now, but since I am sporterizing it that will soon change. That and my Mosin is already a heavy hitter so I really don't need two. I couldn't find any Kroils, but I did get some brake cleaner and engine degreaser. That way I can clean it up and then degrease it.
  18. OK, I'll head out and pick me up some then. What about the pitting on my Mosin barrel? Is it enough to worry about? Is their a way to fill in the pitting?
  19. I spoke to the General Manager at Timney through email a while back about the Mosin tiggers. I will contact him and see if maybe we can still make this work. I'll let you guys know as soon as I hear back from him.

Will do. Thanks to everyone for all the info, especially you gun nutty. I learned a lot in this thread.
  21. By crud and grime I mean a black sticky nasty substance that is VERY difficult to remove. I think its a mixture of oil and dirt and maybe some cosmo is my guess. See the first two pics. For rust on my Mosin I used navel jelly, but surprisingly my Turk never had any rust on her. The last pic is the barrel on my Mosin. It's got some pretty nasty pitting from rust. Should I be worried about it? Is their anything I can do to repair the pitting damage?
  22. I've been working on my Mosin project and it is going well, however, I just bought my old Turk K98 Mauser back from 8uck5nort's boy so the Mosin project is on the back burner. A little history behind this Mauser: About 10 years ago I found this rifle in a pawn shop in KY while visiting my Grandparents in southern Indiana. I bought it for $30. So you can imagine what it looked like. The rifle stock was black because of grime build up, the internal magazine was full of mud and water, so basically over all it looked like it sat in a pond for the past 90 years. Back then I knew nothing about rifles and was told to not take it apart because that could ruin it's accuracy. So I wouldn't let my grandfather take it apart to clean it. We used gas and rubbed and scrubbed all the gunk off. However because we never completely stripped it down it never was properly cleaned. Tonight I took her apart and started to give her the cleaning she needs (been itching to do it all week). And boy is it nasty. I spent all evening working on just the internal magazine/trigger guard assembly and after going through 3 brass scrubbing brushes I'm still not done with this one part! At this rate it will take me 6 months worth of evenings to get it all cleaned up. So I wanted to ask the group, what is a good method to clean off 100 year old grime from both the metal and wood parts from this rifle?

Interesting. So could shooting a .308 or .312 bullet in your .310 bore cause you or your rifle damage? Ultimately I'm trying to avoid that in my hobby.

This is wolf ammo, I measured it right at the brass (steel case) and then a little farther up. Thats how I got the 2 measurements. It could be a crimp ring which may be the reason it is smaller. Is their much difference in BC between .308, .310, & the .312 bullets?
