  1. This is sad news to a few of us. There is a hand full of us folks that have been around since the very early days. A few have passed on to a better place, some have drifted away to persue other interests many just vanished. I am guessing that there simply are not a lot of folks left that share our love for the things this site was created for. The younger folks that I have talked with and observed generally have no hobbies or interests in the outdoors. Give them a video game and a couch and they seem contented. There is no interest in preservation and restoration in most of them. A sense of pride doesn't seem to exist in many, if not most, younger folks. How many of your neighbors are interested in gardening or hunting or building something? Any school kids or teens that would pull weeds or mow lawns or paint fences for a few extra bucks? I for one am of the older crowd that remembers things as how they were in a time long forgotten. A time when pride, hard work and sharing of knowledge got us the things we needed or wanted. For those of us that still exist this site, if gone, will be a sad day indeed. I thank you all for sharing your knowledge, projects and love of life and freedom for all to see.
  2. On June 28th he posted "Another PET Scan tomorrow afternoon." He said he would have rhe results in a few days and would let us know the results. I have had a bad feeling since then that no news was not good news. My prayers are with him regardless of what the answer to his absence is. Any of us that have been around here long have come to look forward to his posts and friendship If he doesn't return I'm sure we will all miss his presence.

Some time back he posted regarding a medical condition. I'm hoping that isn't an issue. Hopefully we will hear from him soon.
  4. That's a really good looking geha there my friend. Anyone would be proud to be walking through bird county with that. We, of course, will expect a field report.
  5. From what I have been told by the younger generations and their folks History books have a lot of falsehood in them. They of course have most of our true history removed or rewritten to suit the common goal. That being Socialism or worse. They teach our young that democracy is bad, but socialism is good. Freedom is also bad but constant control and guidance by your government is good. No need to work, you will be provided for. When the government owns you and you have no defense against them, then life as we know it will be no more. Given a few more years of indoctrination their goals will be a reality my friends.
  6. That is the most beautiful countwr top I've ever laid eyes on. You could not have bought something that nice at any price, and you have the pride of knowing it is your own creation. Fabulous coloring and a piece of perfection. 6 stars on a 5 star scale.
  7. You have my best wishes my friend. May your scan reveal the best of news. Prayers sent.
  8. Sounds like the electrolytics in the power supply have given up the ghost.
  9. Garden looks very good to me. You have a love to grow and it shows. I am always glad to see folks that take the time and put forth the hard efforts required to grow their own veggies and fruits. The fresh produce is far better than store bought food.
  10. FC, when I was a kid some 55 years or so ago I was very interested in radio and such. Never did anything with it until about 15 years ago. Got started trying to repair a few tube radios with limited success by reading books my brother sent me and searching the web. Over time I built a few fender guitar amp clones, again using knowledge I gathered from internet sites. Then I spent a few years back repairing tube radios and finally have transitioned to hifi amps as well. It is addictive as there always seems to be that next project. As for repairng radios most all the repairmen are long ago out of business. Parts are hard to find or non existant and poeple don't want to spend what repairs would cost. It's more of a labor of love these days with a few die hards hanging on.
  11. Funny, I had one of those tube testers for a couple of years. The meter finally died and honestly they were not the greatest testers by any means. Still, they were much better than nothing. I have learned a lot in the last 15 years about this hobby but will never have a complete grasp on how or why everything comes together. Thanks for the kind words Horsefly. Dr Hess, you should put that hf amp together. Go for it.
  12. I see there are sources for the sockets online with a wide range of prices. When it comes to the tubes, they are a bit pricy these days. 1150 dollars each would make a person think twice maybe. But then, like most everything, supply and demand has it's price. Even popular new old stock preamp and power tubes can get into the hundreds. I'll be sticking with new production tubes for my projects. My ears can't tell the difference.
  13. These are the pictures of the second amplifier
  14. One of my pastimes is building and using tube electronics. Here are some pictures of a couple of tube stereo amplifiers I have built. They are built off designs by Matt at Cascade Amps. Both amps are about 5 watt ultra linear single ended. One is using 6L6 power output tubes and the other uses 6V6 power output tubes. They sound amazing.
  15. That's a good looking bunch of onions. What variety are they. Your garden really looks to be doing well. Have you grown any Vidalia onions? We did when I was in Georgia. Got our sets about 15 miles from where I lived. Guy grew probably 80 acres of them each year. Sweet and mild.
  16. According to news reports they state this guy made statements on social media as to his plans. Why would someone not report this. This whole thing stinks. My heart goes out for the victims and their families. Those that may have known his plans and did nothing have guilt in this as well I think.
  17. It is a tragedy that some people seem to live solely to destroy the lives of others, even children. For that there is no doubt. It is also pitiful that these horrors seem to run in cycles that coincide with the needs of anti gunners. What is it they say about never let a tragedy go to waste. Just a nagging thought.
  18. I believe you have it right Tony. I also believe those that look out and care for others are blessed as well. Well done my friend.
  19. AzRednek I doubt highly that I'll ever come anywhere close to 10,000 rounds at this point. That would be a lot of shooting. And then there's the lack of supplies to feed it. Hopefully that will get better sometime down the road. I dont think it's too likely anytime soon.
  20. Armscor site shows GI full size also in 38 Super and 9mm.
  21. I looked at their website and they say the frames are cast and the slides are forged. Both are listed as 4140 steel. I saw no mention of them changing over to forged frames. Either way they are very well made I think.
  22. I broke down and bought one of the Rock Island 1911a1's a few years back. This full sized 45ACP pistol has proven itself in functionality, reliability and accuracy. It exceeds my ability in accuracy and never gives a hiccup. It will last my lifetime without a doubt. And besides all that, it looks nice.
  23. I had no idea you all were in a severe drought down there until I just looked it up. There is a lot of the country that could use a good slow soaking. Hopefully things will get better soon.
  24. Garden looking good so far. Hopefully the weather will treat you better this year. We have been having all the winds for the last couple of weeks off and on too. Very dry here.
