  1. Sorry about that Ken! We are actually warming up down here. Supposed to be 13 above after a week of below zero. Living near the coast pays off in many ways, though I love the interior (just not in the mid-winter).
  2. Many times I have stood in grocery lines behind women (generally with a brood of snot nosed kids) who rummaged past the cigarettes in their purses to get to their Quest Card. Often they bought foods I can't afford. I know... I'm just mean spirited.
  3. I have no plans to go to New York City, Boston, Massachusetts, or any other place which restricts my and other peoples' rights for self defense. These places will implode on themselves when the SHTF and I'd hate to be caught living there when the occupy type folks attempt to take over.
  4. Absolutely on both counts. I gave up arguing against Paul supporters, but I will vote for anyone over Bams.

    Lazy Day

We had about 12 above today. Lazy day here too, so my wife and I decided to haul firewood by snowmachine along the bank of the Kasilof River. We filled up two sleds twice to add to our wood pile. After a work-out like that you feel kind of rummy at the end of the day, but I'll sleep like a baby tonight. Ice fishing tomorrow!
  6. Unfortunately, the apple does not fall far from the tree.
  7. Don't even get me started on the Electoral College.
  8. Thanks for including us northerners. Due to our time zone, we are the last to vote in a presidential election, and by the time we do, the election has already been decided, so we mostly vote just to say we did.
  9. America first? Absolutely. Guess we view things differently, but since I am not arguing with a liberal (I suspect you are a Libertarian), I don't see any sense in arguing at all. Anyway, I have found out that Paul supporters are way more touchy than liberals about their guy and are just about imposible to argue with. So be it. And as I said above, anyone is better than Obama. If Paul won the nomination (which I do not expect will happen) I will vote for him. There now, go polish a rifle and relax. I'm not your enemy. Nobama 2012
  10. Absolutely. But a vote cast in idealism for a candidate who cannot win is a vote for Obama. None of the current GOP candidates are like McCain. All of them, even Paul, are immeasurably better than Obama.
  11. No, America is the trading center of the world; Sweden and Switzerland are not. Also (for better or worse) America has supported Israel as the only democratic country in the Middle East. These two things, along with a culture Islam sees as decadent, mark the US as "The Great Satan" in the eyes radical Islamists. Iran no more threat than Iraq was? I don't know how you could make any such comparison. Apples/oranges. I agree we need to focus on our problems at home, but I also believe we cannot close our eyes to those who want to destroy us. Walk softly but carry a big stick. What good are roads and schools in cities where dirty bombs have gone off?
  12. Ron Paul is WAY off base in regards to 9-1-1, Iran as a nuclear threat, and maintaining a strong national defense. I like some of his fiscal stances, but on foreign policy he comes off as a kook.
  13. I would think a golf course would make a dandy place for shooting! Imagine helping those little white balls fall into holes with a nicely placed shot. Just be sure you shout "Fore" before you shoot.
  14. Blame is all he's got. Gone is the notion that "the buck stops here". For Obama the buck stops with George Bush and with "lazy" Americans, with bitter clingers, and anyone else but himself.
  15. I dumped them a few years ago. I don't see how an organization can be "one issue" oriented so as to endorse RINOs and out-and-out liberals who know how to keep in the good graces of the NRA. This is how we end up with the Kirk Dillards and the Marky Begichs.
  16. Wow, I'm living in the tropics down here on the Kenai! I took 15 freshman shooting today for Outdoor Ed. The temps were in the upper teens. Fun times.
  17. All it would take to subdue Islam in one day is to threaten the explosion of a bomb loaded with pig grease over Mecca. It is that simple, and that effective, and unfortunately, that un-PC.

    Prices

Recent stories I have seen indicate that Americans are buying up guns at an amazing rate. The supply may not be keeping up with demand thereby creating scarcity. Not only are guns "cool" again (at least for a while), but gun owners may still be scared that the libs are just waiting for the right opportunity to make another big move on gun rights. Remember, like communists, they never give up, they just bide their time.

    Prices

Most of the rise came in 2008, after Obama was elected. We kind of di it to ourselves as people made runs on ammo and guns. And of course, the resulting demand and scarcity led to a rise in prices.
  20. I like the .270, but I'm in love with the classic beauty of the .308. That forearm tip work is gorgeous.
  21. I like the way the forearm steps up just after the receiver. That is a handsome rifle.
  22. That is a Savage Edge .223. It comes with a black plastic stock and some sort of slightly textured black coating on the barrel. I striped it, scope and all, with blue masking tape, primed it with Krylon Fusion light Grey primer, then with flat white. Next I took off the tape and used a mesh bag for "snake skin" using the same flat white. Lastly I fogged it here and there with olive drab. Surprisingly it blends right in with our wintertime Alaska snow and black spruce environment. I generally use a scope visor to break up the black scope lens so as to fool them 'yotes.
  23. Krylon is quite durable if you sand and prime well. Put on lots of coats. I beat up my predator guns pretty badly, but when I get a scrape, I just sand the area and add to the camo!
  24. Didn't he once quip: "Bomb, bomb, bomb, bomb Iran"?
  25. As long as we have spoiledyass young people, such as those "occupying" Wall Street and other places, sitting around instead of working, agribusinesses will rely on cheap labor from elsewhere. I applaude Alabama's move to deal with illegals, but now they can't find people to take their places. Time to bus load those idiots from the north down to the south and put them to work instead of siting on buts with protest signs. As far as the Texas situation, I hold the parents responsible for voting in that school board and now letting this teacher cram another country's pledge down their kids' throats. I would have yanked my kid out a long time ago and run for school board on that ticket. And yes, if people such as this teacher love Mexico so much they should get the hell back there where they belong. If a Mexican expatriot loves this country they will embrace our culture, language and government, not the broken ass corrupt country they left. Rick Perry is a sell-out when it comes to illegals.
