  1. you got me on that one..never tried it...i don"t think it would cause a problem...it just needs to be clean
  2. yes this is a rust blue process..polish with 320 grit .....boil in a good cleaning solution to remove all the oil. wipe with clean shop towel...then i boil again in clean water wear latex gloves to keep all oil off the parts.. wipe on a very thin coat of this solution ,let it set over night ....it will have a red rust covering on parts.... boil in water for 20-30 min..it will turn black ..then use 0000 steel wool that you have degreased..to remove, reapply again and let set .....any were fron 4 to 8 times will produce a real nice blue job... there are many ways and variation as to how you can do all of this ...heat and humidity play a big part... there are whole books wrote on the process..this was just a short high light on how its done... brownell send a nice pamplet with each bottle.. in a nut shell you can get very a very nice blue job at home ..with a small setup.. the metal restoration, processes forum here has some good info about rust bluing
  3. just got a bottle of brownells new rust bluing on wen. gave it a try on fri. and i think its one of the best i"ve tried ...after 3 coats its a real nice blue-black color..and with a $12.50 for 4fl oz. price tag its hard to beat..
  4. god bless you reverend ...thanks for you service glad to see you got out safe..i pray your service will make a differance in iraqs future..
  5. i have seen were some shrouds want fit some bolts...i have fixed some of these with valve lapping compound some are so large that they want even start to screw into the bolt..
  6. i would look at the spring in the bolt stop ...i"ve seen a lot of problem in the turks were ths spring was weak it needs to hold the ejector tight against the bolt..
  7. these guys are right ...slow down ..first get the turk...make jig to remove barrel...make jig to face off front of action...get thick wall 3/4" pipe and practice cutting threads so that they fit the action...barrels are not for practice....every thing you make in the way of jigs will be useful for years to come ....so go ahead and make them...you said a turk m38....get one marked k. kale
  8. doesn"t get much better than that..good hunting
  9. that is nice workon that 93 for a bubba...keep up the good work...people tell me why do you want to put all that time a money into that old mauser ...just go down any buy a rifle....those people will never get it...
  10. hey guys i have access to some nice plastic in white, grey, rose pink.....055" thick P.M. me if you need some
  11. its a lot of fab work involved in this ...i"m really just into building guns...i"ve got some in the vault i"ve built that i haven"t even shoot ..the .243 won"t fit in a ak mag..but a galil is just a fancy ak .but in .308 it uses the same kind on latching ..a member here asked my if would do some machine work on a.308 ak.. after thinking about it ..and having a .243 A&B barrel on hand...plus some ak parts ..it just came together been waiting on a rhineland arms mag adapter for a enfield .45 acp project i need to finish..
  12. my latest project ....a .243 AK ....used an A & B barrel with a galil .308 clip... all other parts were hand made to fit....and is 922 compliant http://img.villagephotos.com/p/2005-4/988983/MVC-001S.JPG

  16. looks like a good start...JRH what state are you in??
  17. i"ve done one with a turk and a rem.700 takeoff barrel ,using a setscrew to hold barrel...you will need a longer set of threads if you want to try interrupted threads .i welded a lug to the bottom of the barrel ,drilled and taped it to hold barrel to forestock..then cut the stock with a thin saw blade .. http://img.villagephotos.com/p/2005-4/988983/MVC-012S.JPG http://img.villagephotos.com/p/2005-4/988983/MVC-011S.JPG

  19. some people will say do"nt waste time on reworking those old turks...just buy one ready to shoot.... those people just don"t know the joy of learning the skills that come with such a project...i"m sure this want be your last mauser rifle..nice job
  20. i have seen some that look like they had a rough blasted finish...then black oxide applied. this is surely not what they call a satin blue...because i just do"nt see the blue part
