  1. as far as the barrel thread size, i would have to say only one way to be sure and that is remove it...as far as i know there is no other way to be sure
  2. i worked on this for several days..the bolt face is easy to modify but the feed ramp was my problem..i even reworked the cartidge hold down lever so it would hold the smaller case ..but never over came the ramp problem..the bolt passes though the ramp so you just can"t narrow it up..i"m sure some bright smith has over came this problem some how..a .44 mag looks like a better bet.. i:ve take barrels off 2 , did"t have any problems..
  3. the weaver no.1 side mount works real nice on these also. http://img.villagephotos.com/p/2005-4/988983/MVC-006S.JPG
  4. what kind of price are they giving you??do you have the barrel already or are you looking for one?
  5. The reamer sharing co-op is a group of us who combine our reamers and headspace gauges and make them available to others within the group. To join the reamer sharing co-op you must send in a reamer or a set of headspace gauges or both and then you are a vested member and have access to all the reamers and gauges in the co-op. Once you become a member you will be invited to join the Yahoo reamer sharing co-op group. This is where a lot of our communications takes place. As a member of the co-op you can contact me and I will send you the reamer and or gauges that you need for you project. It will cost $10.00 to have a reamer and gauges shipped to you ($6.50 for shipping and insurance and $3.50 goes into the sharpening fund) If you are interested in joining, or if you have any questions please feel free to e-mail me for more information. 6. some good reading on the .400 whelen http://www.z-hat.com/smashing_the_headspace_myth.htm
  7. i"ve been reading up on this heat treating subject getting different ideals on it.. looks like most mausers where made of sae 1030 steel with about 25 points of carbon//not really a steel that can be improved by heat treating,,,from what i"ve read the core of the mauser was meant to be flexable with a case harding in the wear areas..heating in an oven will cause lose of metal from scale unless it has the oxygen removed or the steel shielded ..most people us stainless steel foil to wrap steel in...some will use kasnit case harding compound from brownells and just redo the case hardness in an oven...all in all i"m just reading all i can find on this subject...this kind on work probley can be done at home if a man has the equipment to check his work with after the heat treating and get a picture of how things were changing ..a lot to do just for a few pieces but might become a sideline buisness
  8. there low price thats for sure...heres one of mine http://img.villagephotos.com/p/2005-4/988983/MVC-006S.JPG
  9. stop stop how can you do that to such a rare and priceless rifle
  10. his wood alone is worth more than my finished rifles..
  11. crowkiller this will pretty much waste a trigger guard, but a rough one can be found pretty cheap..get a clip and open up the top as much as possible so the bolt can run down deep in it as closes..set the clip as far forward as you can..i did the whole thing in about 3 hours..if you have any question p.m. me
  12. i"m going with the ak mag ...here is a link to some very helpful info on #4 enfield. the turk receiver is d&t will add a scope this was a $65.00 after market barrel from MIDWAY and was not drilled for iron sights..would really like an enfield in .45 acp also ....so many guns so little time............shows .233 and 7.62x39 mod. http://www.surplusrifle.com/shooting/no4223/index.asp
  13. finally got this turk to feed right with the small 7.62x39 ..picketed up some 5 round single stack clips at tulsa gun show for $9.95 and installed them in mag.well no mod. needed to receiver..used an AK style release..works slick a butter now.. barrel is a 700 rem. next is a ENFIELD in same cal. http://img.villagephotos.com/p/2005-4/988983/MVC-002S.JPG http://www.villagephotos.com/pubbrowse.asp?folder_id=1507846
  14. have you tried grinding the bolt stop back a little so the ejector will come out farther when the bolt is retracted?
  15. as i understand it ...you can"t just rechamber to a .22 mag because it needs a larger bore..now i know many say my .22 shoots .22lr or .22mag..but you really have a .22mag that a .22lr CAN be shoot in
  16. heres a #4 i just stocked with a boyd ria stock ..i did some reshaping to the front.. the ria has no cheek rest but they have some that do.. http://www.villagephotos.com/pubbrowse.asp?folder_id=1504922
  17. this homemade mix is were i started but the cost of shipping these chemicals in all from differant places is to costly.even lye is $4.00 lb at hardware stores.. ammonium Nitrate is almost impossable to buy in bulk..so its out Potassium Nitrate cost about $3.00 a lb..sodium nitrate is $8.00 lb brownells salts are 40 lb for $85.00 plus shipping and its the real deal.. unless you have a chemical warehouse close buy it looks like brownell is the cheaper way to go??
  18. i know that brownells sells salts ....who else??
  19. i'm lucky to work at a large plant with big roll off metel scrap dumpsters..a little shopping and you can find most anything..this is all scrap except the jack.. bushing is cut on both sides doesn't look like it in pick..springs open the press when jack is let down..the steel jaws are 2 1/2 " by 2 1/2" ..,bolted the jaws on the faceplate of my lathe bored the hole..mounted it under the table to get it out of the way..using a 8 ton jack http://www.villagephotos.com/pubbrowse.asp?folder_id=1486868
  20. your right not as big as april show but plenty to look at..did you see those husqvarna 9.3 x57 for $250.00 kicking my self for not getting one..
  21. i machined a washer to fit between the tube and the gas block...block was worn but i didn't want to go to trouble to change it..
  22. had a lot of problems from mine ..upon close inspection there was a lot of blowback gas leaking around the front gas tube .....this caused a weak bolt action
  23. read in the paper were the Davis gun museum in Clairmore was being investigated because some machineguns that were loged to them had been used in a crime in NEW YORK state ..the feds what to know how they got there...
