    Yeehaw Ii

Thanks for the compliments BradD. Comeback anytime. I've lived in both states and California is a beautiful state but for a Native Texan like me, there's no place like home! I hope you can make it to the Piney Woods of East Texas sometime. rwims TEXAS, A WHOLE OTHER COUNTRY!
  2. Well a bottle of Head & Shoulders lasts about four times as long as it did when I was young. I can dispense it with an eye dropper now. I was always so proud to find a grey hair, that meant it turned grey before it turned loose. In all honesty I haven't lost any hair, it just relocated, ears, nose, back, ect. As a child I thought a day was forever. As I got older the days seemed to grow shorter and shorter, but in reality I'm moving slower and slower. Don't misunderstand I'm not complaining, just observing. rwims
  3. I'm sorry for your loss Jerry, Our prayers are with you and your family. Richard
  4. I would certainly be enterested in a Texas get together. RWims
  5. Clayton, I think I asked this very question of myself thirty years ago. I here the Colorado School of Trade has an excellent gunsmith program. As far as making money as a firearms manufacturer, Remington, Winchester, Ruger, and many others have done so. The question you have to ask yourself is are you committed and willing to make the necessary sacrifices to do what you enjoy. You might not get rich; you may not be able to support a family. You are asking a tough question at a time in your life when you have to time to experiment with careers. Good Luck with your decision, rwims
  6. From all I've read here, you want to be careful not to remove too much of the case hardening. Hopefully someone who has done this can provide you the details.
  7. I live about 100 miles northeast of Dallas, Texas and although it is a rural community we still are well populated. The other night comming home from Dallas as I exited from the Interstate at the edge of town about 8:00PM, just wandering around the intersection was a very large and healthly looking coyote. He wasn't afraid of anything. I was so shocked by what I saw I turned my car around and went back and he was still there not more than 50 yards form people pumping gas at the corner station. Eventhough I live in town almost every night you can here the coyote's howl. We got alot of them !
  8. Well Dave H, glad to here you survived your situation. It's great to be able to write about or tell these stories yourself rather than someone tell or write it about you.
  9. The price of the Remington take-off barrel on E-Bay is why I even raised the question. I can buy a LR mauser A&B barrel from Midway for just a little more, have a better selection of calibers, choose my contour, and not have to worry about sight holes. I also have two military LR 8x57 barrels that I have removed the steps on with very good bores. I was thinking of putting one in a Turk K.Kale action. I quess I better start practicing threading with my lathe. rwims
  10. Well I told you it might be a dumb question. But better to ask a dumb question than make a dumb mistake I always say. Thanks for the explanation guys.
  11. This may be a dumb question but I'm going to ask it anyway. Why does everyone talk about cutting down Remington barrels for the small shank Turk actions when it seems it would be easier to get a die and reduce the thead size on a large ring barrel? After all the thread pitch is the same so it wouldn't be much different than chasing the threads. If I'm wrong please tell me before I buy an adjustable die and attempt it. Thanks, rwims
  12. Thanks Clemson, You just answered a question I've been pondering for the past few days. I have two short chambered barrels to be installed.
  13. Rust Bluing is a time consuming but simple process. If you can cold blue, you can rust blue. disassemble your rifle as complete as possible. Degrease your parts completely. I use acetone but there are many others that probably work just as well. The only areas that will blue are the areas you coat with your chemical. I have blued three rifles with rust blue with excellent results. The only deviation I make from the instructions is in carding, I use a terry cloth towel instead if the wire carding wheel. Enjoy the results.
  14. I have used two P-H bull Barrels. One was put on a VZ-24 action the other on a M-48 action. The rifle with the VZ-24 action still needs some tuning but the rifle with the M-48 action shoots like a champ. The most recent hand loads in the M-48 rifle produced just under a 1/2 minute group at 100 yds. The barrels have a 1 in 14 twist and I've found when I exceed 150 gr slug the group starts to spread. Since I built these rifles as a Tactical / Brenchest style I'm very pleased with their performce.
  15. 724 you are truley talented. That is a beautiful piece.
  16. Well done Jason. Let us know how it shoots.
  17. Beautiful rifle Swamp Thing. You should be proud.
  18. I'm interested ! Let me know the rules. rwims
  19. Good looking rifle. Did you jewel the bolt yourself?
  20. I'm confused. I understand the process of color case hardening and the reason for it. Your putting a very hard wearable surface on a mild steel. The process could lend itself to warpage of an action but what would make it anymore dangerous than a case hardened or carborized action. Please forgive my ignorance, rwims
  21. Thanks Horsefly, The stock started out as the nutmeg laminate from Boyds but I wanted something a little darker. I used two coats of Minwax - Early American stain and then hand rubbed with tung oil. I'm about a hundred miles NE of big D.
  22. Sharp lookin! I like the 7.65 Argentine round.
