  1. Sarah Brady skirted gun laws in buying son's rifle New York Daily News March 22, 2002 08:15:00 WASHINGTON - Gun-control advocate Sarah Brady bought her son a powerful rifle for Christmas in 2000 - and may have skirted Delaware state background-check requirements, the New York Daily News has learned. Brady reveals in a new memoir that she bought James Brady Jr. a Remington .30-06, complete with scope and safety lock, at a Lewes, Del., gun shop. "I can't describe how I felt when I picked up that rifle, loaded it into my little car and drove home," she writes. "It seemed so incredibly strange: Sarah Brady, of all people, packing heat." Brady became a household name as a crusader for stricter gun-control laws after her husband, James, then the White House press secretary, was seriously wounded in a 1981 assassination attempt on then-President Ronald Reagan. Brady writes in "A Good Fight" that the unnamed gun shop ran federal Brady Law and Delaware state background checks with great fanfare. The book suggests that she did not have her son checked, as required by Delaware state law. "(W)hen the owner called in the checks, it seemed to me he spoke unnecessarily loudly, repeating and spelling my name over and over on the phone," Brady writes. Amy Stillwell, a spokeswoman for The Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence, said the federal Brady Law does not require background checks for intrafamily gun gifts. Stillwell said she did not know whether her son was checked under the state law. The Delaware Department of Justice says the state does not have an exemption for family gifts. "Scott is not a convicted felon, and he is not prohibited from owning a gun," Stillwell said. "Scott Brady could walk into a store and buy a - he is not a prohibited purchaser." Delaware Justice Department spokeswoman Lori Sitler said the purchase could be illegal under state law if Brady did not also say who she was buying the gun for and submit his "name, rank and serial number" for a full check. "You can't purchase a gun for someone else," Sitler said yesterday. "That would be a 'straw purchase.' You've got a problem right there." Anti-gun control advocates were surprised to hear of Brady's foray into their world. "We hope that it's innocuous and there's been no laws violated," said James Jay Baker, chief lobbyist for the National Rifle Association. "It's obviously interesting that Sarah would be purchasing firearms of any kind for anybody, given her championing of restrictive guns laws for everyone." --- © 2002, New York Daily News.
  2. You should read the book "The Case for Israel" by Alan Dershowitz. It's a great book telling everything Israel has done to stop the war. Corruption in the Palestinian Govt has caused a lot of the problems. I for one am glad we cut the money off and that Israel is standing up to these cowards.
  3. Try some of the heavy bullets Karl. The Lapua 200grain bullets shoot very well.
  4. Also ebay has them much cheaper than AIM. My Webpage My Webpage
  5. It has some nice wood on it for sure.
  6. Another great Puyallup Gun Show has come and gone. There is always a lot of nice mil Surp finds for everyone. I located a Finn m/91 Tikka dated 1940. What was strange about it was that it had the same type of wood as the walnut Swede m/96 that was sitting right next to it. I bought it for $75 and took it home for a take apart and cleaning. The bore was very good plus. The wood was great with fiddle back and a reddish tone to it like the European walnut. The stock was AV-3 marked with the crossed cannon symbol with a #9 in it. I have not seen a #9 before until picking up this gun. See the below pictures.
  7. Well I just got back about two weeks ago from a research trip to Finland. It was an enjoyable trip in which several friends sponsored me. That made it quite a inexpensive trip and left cash for picking up a lot of mil surp goodies. Has the piggie farmer been enjoying himself over here?
  8. Well I just got back from another gun show. I saw a Ruger Old Army in like new condition for $190. I brought it home and did some cleaning on it and thought it was a nice gun. Anyone have any experience with these shooten irons.
  9. Well I just got back from another research trip from Finland. The people are great over there but it was cold. I have been there 3 times now and have made several friends. I always stay with a family and never have to rent a motel room. The sites were great as well as the gun show but its good to be back in my bed. Karl, Fritz have you boys been behaving?
  10. Shoot Lapua 7.62x39 through it for accuracy and see what happens.
  11. BEAR FROM ALASKA Now....THAT'S A BEAR!!!!!!!!!!! The pictures are of a man who works for the US Forest Service in Alaska and his trophy bear.He was out deer hunting last week when a large grizzly bear charged him from about 50 yards away. The guy emptied his 7mm Magnum semiautomatic rifle into the bear and it dropped a few feet from him. The big bear was still alive so he reloaded and shot it several times in the head. The bear was just over one thousand six hundred pounds. It stood 12' 6" high at the shoulder; 14' to the top of his head. It's the largest grizzly bear ever recorded in the world. Of course, the Alaska Fish and Wildlife Commission did not let him keep it as a trophy, but the bear will be stuffed and mounted, and placed on display at the Anchorage airport to remind tourists of the risks involved when in the wild.Based on the contents of the bears stomach, the Fish and Wildlife Commission established the bear had killed at least two humans in the past 72 hours including a missing hiker. The US Forest Service, backtracking from where the bear had originated, found the hiker's 38-caliber pistol emptied. Not far from the pistol was the remains of the hiker. The other body has not been found.Although the hiker fired six shots and managed to hit the grizzly with four shots (the Service ultimately found four 38 caliber slugs along with twelve 7mm slugs inside the bear's dead body), it only wounded the bear and probably angered it immensely. The bear killed the hiker an estimated two days prior to the bear's own death by the gun of the Forest Service worker. If you are an average size man Think about this: You would be level with the bear's navel when he stood upright. The bear would look you in the eye when it walked on all fours! To give additional perspective, consider that this particular bear, standing on its hind legs, could walk up to an average single story house and look over the roof, or walk up to a two story house and look in the bedroom windows. I HAVE PICTURES BUT KEEP GETTING AN ERROR MESSAGE WHEN I TRY TO LOAD THEM.
  12. I would like to give you my deepest condolences to you and your family for your loss. Death is a shock and having someone close to you go, makes one reflect on their own mortality. Everyday is a gift from the Lord. How you spend it and enjoy it is your choice.
  13. If Stan gives it two thumbs up I'll have to try one.
  14. They can't be desert monkeys because there are no trees in the desert.

    Hero's

I just got done watching the movie "The Raid". It was the 6th Ranger Bn. raid on the Chabantuan POW camp. At the end of the movie it was showing how the U.S. greeted the prisoners coming home. Do we know who are hero's are anymore? Do we know how to treat out heroes? I met with the team leader of that raid Major Bob Prince several months back. Even in his 80's he is still very sharp with military tactics and a true man to admire. His DSC speaking for it self.

    Hatfield

I went to a muzzle loader show today and was looking for a Hatfield. I saw two but they were way over priced.
  18. They are being hand picked up for certain Mil Surp dealers.
  19. The com-block did use Mosins for olyimpic shoots after the war. Special ammo was made that was very close to the Lapua D-166 round.
  20. Swamp makes some good points and a good cleaning may fix it. It also maybe the rounds your using do not headspace properly with that gun.
