Has anyone noticed the difference between the City of New York during 911 and the City of New Orleans during this last deal? I think there is a lot of difference how both Cities have responded.

From an out of state Policeman on the ground....
All fine in Baton Rouge so far. We have 50,000 refugees in a town of 300,000 so you can imagine the problems. So far the lid has been kept on and FEMA is starting to show a bigger presence. They are talking about moving the bulk of them to other cities. So stand by. You may be getting a chunk of the Big Easy coming to you.
I went down there yesterday on a SWAT operation to rescue specific individuals..... The physical damage to the city, other than flooding, is not catastrophic. The city looks the same in the daylight as it always did. The human situation on the other hand is insane. There is NO law and order anywhere in the city limits. The area of the French Quarter is a free fire zone as is the area around the Superdome. We were all over the city and we were the ONLY organized law enforcement on the street, period. There were 14 of us. Saw some dead bodies but not an overwhelming number. As of 3 p.m. yesterday there were only about 100 or so NOPD officers left on the job. The rest of the 1100 man department had quit and left the city with their families and I don't blame them. Most of them had been simply thrown onto the street the morning after the storm and had not see or spoken to their chain of command since. I mean NO contact. NOPD SWAT is about all that is left and we gave them ammunition. They looked like they had been through hell. We were out of the city by dark. One of the eeriest sights that I have ever seen was driving over the bridge and seeing a black void where the lights of N.O used to be.
We are going back down there in a day or so and set up a more permanent presence. This thing is going to start being fixed so the situation will start to improve over the next couple of weeks. There is going to have to be a complete federal take over and martial law declared over the whole area for an unspecified amount of time.
More to come

My wife was driving down a county road where they just paved it and painted the center lines/fog lines. Low and behold the county road crew guys who painted the centerlines, painted right over a dead possum that was in the center of the road.

Here was a good deal I found at the Monroe gunshow:
-
Stopped up at the Monore gun show and got a Finn m/28 and a m/28/30 for $60 a unit. Total cost $120. Here they are:
-
I noted on the cable channel the Japs crying about the bomb dropped on them. We should have let the Russians invade them instead.
-
Reloading for these guns can make them tack drivers.

I have a friend that use to be a Winchester rep in this area for many years. He says to use the Herters french red stain that Brownells sell. I have used it on some model 12s I rebuilt and it works great!

I don't know about you, but all this talk about these Jr. Rangers (Marines) make me ill. But then again who would rush the machinegun positions?
-
They sure like those South African 155 shells don't they?

A man and his dog were walking along a road. The man was enjoying the
scenery, when it suddenly occurred to him that he was dead.
He remembered dying, and that the dog walking beside him had been dead for
years. He wondered where the road was leading them.
After a while, they came to a high, white stone wall along one side of the
road. It looked like fine marble. At the top of a long hill, it was broken
by a tall arch that glowed in the sunlight.
When he was standing before it he saw a magnificent gate in the arch that
looked like mother-of-pearl, and the street that led to the gate looked
like pure gold. He and his dog walked toward the gate, and as he got
closer, he saw a man at a desk to one side.
When he was close enough, he called out, "Excuse me, where are we?"? "This
is Heaven, sir," the man answered.
"Wow! Would you happen to have some water?" the man asked.
"Of course, sir. Come right in, and I'll have some ice water brought right
up."
The man gestured, and the gate began to open.? "Can my friend," gesturing
toward his dog, "come in, too?" the traveler asked.
"I'm sorry, sir, but we don't accept pets."
The man thought a moment and then turned back toward the road and
continued the way he had been going with his dog.
After another long walk, and at the top of another long hill, he came to a
dirt road leading through a farm gate that looked as if it had never been
closed. There was no fence.? As he approached the gate, he saw a man
inside, leaning against a tree and reading a book.
"Excuse me!" he called to the man. "Do you have any water?"
"Yeah, sure, there's a pump over there, come on in."
"How about my friend here?" the traveler gestured to the dog.
"There should be a bowl by the pump."
They went through the gate, and sure enough, there was an old-fashioned
hand pump with a bowl beside it.
The traveler filled the water bowl and took a long drink himself, then he
gave some to his dog.
When they were full, he and the dog walked back toward the man who was
standing by the tree "What do you call this place?" the traveler asked.
"This is Heaven," he answered.
"Well, that's confusing," the traveler said. "The man down the road said
that was Heaven, too."
"Oh, you mean the place with the gold street and pearly gates? Nope.
That's hell."
"Doesn't it make you mad for them to use your name like that?"
"No, we're just happy that they screen out the folks who would leave their
best friends behind."
So sometimes, we wonder why friends keep forwarding jokes to us without
writing a word.
Maybe this will explain.
When you are very busy, but still want to keep in touch, guess what you
do? You forward jokes.
When you have nothing to say, but still want to keep contact, you forward
jokes.
When you have something to say, but don't know what, and don't know how,
you forward jokes.
Also to let you know that you are still remembered, you are still
important, you are still loved, you are still cared for, guess what you
get?? A forwarded joke or two.
So, next time if you get a joke, don't think that you've been sent just
another forwarded joke, but that you've been thought of today and your
friend on the other end of your computer wanted to send you a smile.
You are all welcome @ my water bowl anytime.

The Arabs are their own worst enemies. They steal from each other (like Arafat’s wife skimming 1 million a month from their donations). I agree with the Doc. Let Israel whip their Asses. I can tell you with all the terrorist we are killing over there, that will be less that Israel will have to worry about.
The Palestinians area bunch of Gypsy thieves. Their own Muslim people kicked them out of Jordan after killing thousands of them. They didn’t want them there and Israel should not have to put up with them. The Palestinian authority is comprised of a bunch of ex-terrorists thugs too. What a toilet that has not been flushed in years.

I fired a Finn m44 while I was in Finland. Crude but nice.
-
They look like pistol targets to me.
-
If you can buy a Finnish trigger / sear and replace the exisitng one, you will find the gun will be easier to hit with.
-
I have been scanning the local Big 5s for some of the more rare dates. The ones I have seen are certainly in great shape.

very nice gun.

I look back on all the Mil Surps that has come into this country over the last 30 years. The Swede m/96 came and were gobbled up quickly. They made about 500,000 of those. They went for under $100 at first and are now anywhere from $250-400 on gunbroker. Same with several of the Finnish Mosin Nagant.
The Swiss K-31, which is a better rifle, IMHO, is going for about the same and they made slightly over 300,000. I wonder how much they will be worth later down the road? I believe they are very good short and long-term investments. What do you think?

To replace that finish use good ole varnish. It is very close to the original.
