  1. My senators, McConnell and Bunning from KY got it right. Fortunately...........
  2. Happy belated OD. At 42 I'm catching up with ya.
  3. Salt in the wound AZ, Salt in the wound!! LOL
  4. Awesome pics Dr. Hess. Hope that ice didn't damage too much timber for you.
  5. We were just south of it. A county to the north and power outages started. We only got about 1/2 inch of ice. Thankful for that.
  6. LL, It's amazing that those were left! Nice find.
  7. Awesome rifle. The story and family connection...........very cool.
  8. Hope the van is up and going again. How do you do with the darkness during winter months? Do you use full spectrum lighting for part of the day? The gloomy days here get me enough that I'm tempted to try a full spectrum bulb at my desk. I don't know if I could handle it that far north.
  9. Hey Kenny and AK. How's the weather up there now?
  10. That's interesting in light of Nancy Pelosi's latest revelation.
  11. I love the emphasis put on not doing anything with the wood for a year in case the company that lost the wood reclaimed it! That's just funny. I hope that we don't follow our British brothers laws too closely! We have enough crazy on this side of the Atlantic.
  12. Since we are building a house I was drooling when I saw all that wood floating!! I'd use it for a shed, or a barn, or a chicken coop or................ I just couldn't believe that they had to sign paperwork to document what they were taking! Craziness. I'm not sure about the salt. I'm sure that some of it would have gotten into the wood but if properly dried I'm not sure what the result would be. Salt preserves but can be caustic too.
  13. Rob, I'm sorry to hear this. It's good that you were able to be there with her. I pray that God will bring you comfort. steve
  14. Has the Rev outlived his usefulness? and is now discarded on the scrap heap?
  15. Pitted but in MUCH nicer shape than the S & W that Kenny pulled off the gravel bar!
  16. Sorry to hear about your van. Is this one of your busier times of year?
  17. Kenny, I work in Home Health Care. I go into some "interesting" places. It blows me away. I'm convinced that you could take these same people, stick them in a brand new 300K home and it would be business as usual with the same results in 3-6 months. It may be a mental illness as Dr. Hess has stated. It probably is in some cases. My observation would be that some of these people have no other expectation as to what "normal" is and are fully content to exist under conditions that we would see as unacceptable and/or filthy. My dad has always said that soap is cheap and elbow-grease free.
  18. FC, I've read the first chapter and "can't wait" to get into the rest of the book. This growth into immaturity has been in my mind for some time and I can give circumstantial examples from a Christian perspective but it amazes me that the book is written from a secular point of view with documentation coming from secular studies. I'd also recommend this as a must read, especially for anyone with children still at home. It's a great read for anyone though as it will help you understand, or at least view, cultural trends from a point of view that you may not have considered. I'll step out on a limb and say that one modern trend that would support the authors claims is the "Harley" phase that people are going through. I still don't understand this drive to reclaim something that was never there. It could be seen as mass individualism, the drive to be different and self-defined only to copy what everyone else is doing. (I have my nomex on so that I can resist the flame on this one LOL). Tony. Think about our nations obsession with retirement and "living the easy life". Does this trend in thinking fit in with what Mrs. West was writing? lc
  19. That sounds like the same stuff that's been going around in our area. Went through my family a couple a couple months ago. 3-4 weeks worth.
  20. I was thinking Redfield. That's just one cool find. I'd like to know the story behind how it got there on the sandbar.
  21. Thanks fly, I thinking of making one with the horse shoe handles. Maybe make Horse shoe feet to place it over the coals or fire. My dad has a mig welder so touching up that hole would be pretty easy. Price is good too! I'll check with my uncle who still farms and an old family friend who farms several Hundred acres still. If I can't find a few good used ones I may try to work something out. I think that cooking on one of these would be pretty neat if for no other reason than for the Cool factor. Lol. Those fajita's on the one cooker sure looked good though!
  22. That's the first I'd heard of that organization. The simplest way to describe us is to say that we are a group of people who understand Sovereign Grace as taught by Christ, Paul and as rediscovered by Luther, Calvin and the rest of the reformers. To my knowledge, only 2 of about 12-15 men are from a Sovereign Grace background. Hope that explains it but if not, fire away with questions. lc
  23. The book is on the way! Can't wait to read it.
