  1. As one who believes in truth and believes that he has found truth in Christ I would say YES!. We are to be salt and light. I'm going to have to get a copy or two for myself and for some of the men in our church. We are at a point of forming a new church and this topic has been one of major discussion. We are facing the issue of "do we continue in the modern form" or "do we teach the childrenouth as though they are adults". This book, from a secular perspective, will only add to the content of our discussions! As to our culture as a whole I see the Church being refined and true Biblical doctrine being a growing focus. Having said that, our pastor was forced into resignation. The reason boils down to this statement made by one of the deacons, "you people focus too much on the word". That statement will tell you why we left. We left a SBC church, and while still in the SBC, we are more along the line of the Founders Movement and consider ourselves in line with much of the doctrine of Reformed Baptists. I'm amazed that the church, as a whole, has gone to the gooey, feely, needs based approach telling people that they are just fine as they are. Part of the modern culture is that we who call ourselves followers of Christ have forgotten the One that we follow and His teachings. We have become humanistic Christians which is oxymoronic. I'm gonna get on Amazon right now! Thanks for posting on this topic!
  2. Here is a link to a more elaborate setup disc cooker Scroll down and it will show one being used on a grill. Here is a how to DIY with nice pics..............Make your own disc cooker On this one, I can see making a lid out of another disc, even using one of smaller diameter. I'd like to see one made with a scalloped edge for the bottom and a smaller one with smooth edges for the lid. Could use a horse shoe to make the lid handle or handles. Any of you farmers have some old disc blades?
  3. Now, even before taking the oath, he can claim that he has kept his promise to stimulate the economy. After taking the oath he will then be free to start the plan to raise taxes having fulfilled this promise.
  4. Yep, I'm between Bowling Green and Somerset. A few years ago, and I don't remember the source, I was challenged to begin to consider how humanistic reasoning has influenced Christian thought. We no longer, as a whole, view God's word as relevant to all that we face. We've adopted pop culture psychology as an equivalent and are seeing the results. If you've never read or seen the video's that Francis Schaeffer did some years ago, "How Shall We Then Live" it's an awesome look at how we consider the world from a scriptural point of view. Well worth the time.
  5. There is nothing new under the sun. This subject reminds me of a passage out of Isaiah where he lists many of the a lot of the sins of the nation. There is stark similarity to our present day. I just can't think of the chapter right now. Anyway, humanity has been here before. We need to adopt the attitude of pro-activity on our children's behalf. We need to agressively teach them truth.
  6. FC, That sound kinda like the Bible.
  7. FC, Pleasant hill IS great isn't it? I just wish that all of the outbuildings were intact as it was back in the 1800's. I can't even begin to imagine the amount of labor that was involved in building those structures. The stonework alone is amazing. The woodwork and magnitude of the buildings.......well, it's a work of art.
  8. Way to think outside the box. Looks good and it opens up possibilities. one things for sure. you don't have to worry about the cap moving on you.
  9. So Kenny, how's that global warming thing coming along?
  10. Enjoyed reading all the nice posts! Heath, what a dinner! Merry Christmas to all. May you know peace. steve
  11. Rob, Very sorry to hear this. It's never the right time. As others have said, tell her how you feel like you told us. It will mean the world to her. I lost my mother in Feb of 2008. I regret not hugging her more and telling her that I loved her more. Please, tell her now and often. steve
  12. Nice family. I'll bet the little one keeps you hopping!
  13. We thought that the spin machine was pretty bad with the Clinton presidency, all 8 years. They seem to have fallen a bit from the favor that the media gave them at the time. I'd hope that it was because the media was embarrassed. This guy is the new media darling. We've seen hints and glimmers of an arrogance throughout the election. His proclaimed new "OFFICE" of the president elect points yet again to such an arrogance. Unfortunately we live in an age when presentation is everything. If you look busy and appear to be doing something you're a whiz don't consider the end results of what is being done. It doesn't really matter. We also have a generation of people who are poorly educated and somewhat ignorant. BUT......they have tremendous self confidence! A fella like this will appeal to them. Hopefully though, they will realize that he is like the candy and dessert that surround a Thanksgiving feast. If you have too much of it it will make you sick and you'll likely throw up. Then, you'll realize the value of the good food. It should be a comical presidency. That's pretty sad.
  14. au contraire mon fraire Young Barry has been elected to the "Office of The President Elect". It's true! I saw it on CNN!!
  15. fm, I had been thinking of the 308 cal Norwegian barrels that you had bought from Numrich. I believe you had posted a pic of that rifle showing spec4 what you'd done. Did you have any trouble with feeding of the 308?
  16. Spiris, I don't have the barrel but was looking at the 308's that fmsniper had used in a build. He found them on Numrich. I was wanting to build a heavy barrel 30-06 and thought that the barrel might be a good starting point. The price is right! The action is the Steyr that I had posted on last week. Large ring.
  17. Thanks fellas. Back to the drawing board............................
  18. Doesn't the taper change most somewhat forward of the webbing? If a bit of setback of the barrel was required how much would be needed?
  19. I have a project in mind and was wondering if a 30-06 reamer would totally clean up a 308 chamber without having to set the barrel back. I've been looking at the specs and it looks like it might but I'm out of my comfort zone here. Thanks, lc
  20. Thanks z, Sounds like it's an action worth keeping so I will keep it. The rebore of the military barrel may be why the thing just won't shoot well. I'm thinking of converting it to 25 or 30-06.
  21. I believe that you're right on it being Chilean. The writing was faint when I bought it and more so with cleaning. I can still read Model and then on the line beneath Steyr Austria. It is marked .30 on the rear bridge and the Right side of the ring is marked F. Ramage 1952. It does chamber 30-06 nicely. I'll probably just keep it but was curious as to price. It's nice to know that the action is a good one and this one is in good shape. It would slick up real nice. Thanks z.
  22. I have a Steyr 1912? Columbian. I've been told that FN made these actions? It was rechambered to 30-06 in the 50's. I'm thinking of selling it but am not sure what an action like this is going for these days. Any ideas? I know that it would make a great sporter and keep going back and forth on whether to sell or keep the thing.
  23. bubbamauser, In my own experience I'm just too busy right now. I'm building a house, changed jobs which has kept me busier and have a few other things on the burner, one of which is number 5 child, a boy in Jan. These things have slowed me down for the present. The point about milsurps drying up is valid. Not as many good mausers in my area. Aside from that, I'm seeing a change in my goals. I'm starting to think about quality vs having a bunch of guns. I'm starting to lean toward having fewer guns that I'm proficient at using. I still want to build a few along the way and will likely keep building my own stocks. However, I'll likely use FN or Husqvarna commercial actions and go for a higher end rifle. I'm just not set up to do the metal work though. I do hate seeing this and other sites slow down from lack of activity. It leaves the feeling that an era is passing..................
  24. Thanks Kenny, I believe that it may have been a seldom shot safe queen. Any of you fella's have good recommendations on trigger set-ups for Blackhawks?
  25. AZ here are a couple pics. This is a clean one.
