  1. Gun Nutty- I checked ALL the brass that I will be using and they are closing just fine. I had removed .010 from the chamber face and remeasured the space from the top of the case to the barrel face and the measurement was .100" where before it was .110" the bolt closes with no forcing needed. now I'm ready to size the brass. I ran ALL the brass thru to see if any were tight or loose. Then I measured the cases form the front of the telt to the back of the case, they were all the same as when I got them, they were all from the same lot. I have 350 cases to use for my 8mm/300 win mag. ALright!!!SEE you later, you guys are great! DAVE

  2. I've finished reaming the 8mm/300 win mag . I took an R.P. nickel round and made a dummy round for checking headspace. I have the belted go/no go guages but I wanted to see how a round would chamber . My question is: The dummy round when closing the bolt is smooth and not loose or tight, but the bolt won't close with the go guage What gives, any ideas? DAVE

  3. I have a 243win on LR (M98). I was trying to decide which one to build on the same action I'll probably go with the 25-06AI cause according to the load data I have, it's almost equal to the 257 weatherby mag. But yhe weatherby is over bored as where the 25-06 isn't. It's time I get in gear and go make some more money. see you guys later >DAVE

  4. what I was planning on doing was to use a tapered expander ball from a 35 whelen. I'd put the pintle and expander into the 416 taylor full sizer die first, the switch to the 416 pintle w/ expander . then trim back to 2.500 for the 416 taylor size cases. How does this sound? I was looking up load lata. The 416 taylor with a 300 grain bullet has 3100 foot pounds of energy at 250 yds when leaving the barrel at 2650 fps. Now that would definately sink a large bears boat!

  5. Z1R, I am new to this chat room. I joined in late Dec. I've learned alot in just the shot time I've been here. I really want to get my feet wetter in the field of gunsmithing. I have a limited amount of tools, but I do have access to machine shop equipment if needed. I've been thinking about getting a minilathe. I'll have to keep it at my work place as I livein an apartment. I've been a ASE certified auto tech since 1982. I'ld love to hear more on gun building. I have put together a few rifles and made a couple of wildcats. My fav is my 8/06 turk w/29" barrel DAVE

  6. Hey Kyle, I have built a 300win mag on a vz 24 action. I still had to open the box, open the feed rails. However ,I used a 30 cal throater and gave it more freebore to be able to use the 200 and 220 matchking loads. It's working just fine. With the 180 nosler bt, it is a great pig, black bear and mule deer rifle here in northern Calif. Dave

  7. I only found one place to buy 8X57 loaded ammo. It's only about 75% loaded. It was only in 170 HDY Roundnose. The velocity was only 2450 fps. I personally found 8mm/06 to be able to reach 2745 wiht HDY 170's. I have a throat reamer, I only stuff the bullets in at .250" which gives me a freebore of .030" It works great in my Turk 1938 with 29" barrel. It does an excellent job on Russian wild boar out here at around 225yards.

  8. Unless you already have an 8x63 you are trying to feed, I'd take a look at the 8x64.

I have no data on the 8X64 Is that the 8X64 brenneke? If so is there a way you could send me some specs and maybe a picture of what they look like? DAVE I would be happy to give you my email if needed.

  9. Has any one built an 8mm/300winmag I have most of what I need?

I'm using a 300win mag reemer that's been modified to hanle the 323dia. pilot. Im also using a 8mmrem mag neck sizer ot size the cases , so far it's working . I could use some feedback.
