I like my M38 Mosin-Nagant better than the others (but don't tell them!), even my antique Finnish M39 isn't as fun...actually my M39 is sort of painful to shoot, whereas the carbines seem milder. That's the exact opposite of what I had read about these guns before acquiring a variety of them! The only major variant of the Mosin-Nagant family that I don't have yet is the 91/59, so I am probably jumping the gun here about which I like the best.
I am not all that fanatical about M-Ns, though I do like them very much...I just don't feel the need to have every single version that was ever produced, but I am amazed by the zeal with which other people collect these firearms!
Let's see, the numbers...I have 1 POS Russian M44 that shoots great, I have 1 beautiful Romanian M44 that shoots better than the Russian, I have a Russian 91/30, a Russian M38 and the Finnish M39...so I just have 5 currently, though, I want to get one of the highly touted Polish M44s at some point, just because I have heard that these are the best of the M44s where fit and finish are concerned.
