  1. we're thinking about you...
  2. break it down for me... is this good or bad? i've never head or the church, but i do own a kahr.
  3. happy birthday, friend! heath
  4. i don't know man, if it was me, i think i'd be a little miffed. were the pictures clear when you bid on it? getting a small ring when you expected a large ring is kind of a big deal. that particular action has more pitting than i'd be comfortable with. it may clean up and it may not. i've not dealt with that. i've heard of guys bondo-ing the pits and gun-koting over it. a 6.5x55 is good for a small ring. good move there. it's a heck of a round. the bolt looks good. not much pitting that i can see. how's the face?
  5. i just finished Horse Soldiers by doug stanton. it's about the special forces group that went into afganistan after 9/11. very interesting book! what those guys dealt with was amazing, and worth read. heath
  6. some guys were bagging on it, but something about it... i dunno... it's COOL!
  7. so you're gonna spread all that bud luck over several guns!?!?!?! that's not a parts gun, my friend, that thing is gunbroker material! don't infect any of your other guns with it's bad juju! pawn in off on some poor SOB on the internet! =)
  8. that's a handsome rifle! probably one of the best mosins i've seen. who's stock is that?
  9. to avoid getting your buddy in trouble, remember that if he's going to do work on a gun, either you have to be present the whole time (take the gun with you and bring it back when it's done - no leaving while it's in the oven) or he needs the appropriate FFL.
  10. some good books listed here... http://www.sporterizing.com/index.php?showforum=18
  11. Short Magazine Lee Enfield. I would start with a mauser just for the wealth of knowledge and parts available. there isn't anything you can think of that hasn't already been done to a mauser, and that will help you greatly. there are still good quantities of M24/47 rifles and standard length 98's. good luck, and keep us informed! heath
  12. honestly, your best bet is to hit up the guys at militaryfirearms.com there are some ultra knowledgeable fellas over there, and they're pretty friendly. does the problem only happen with one mag, or multiples? have you tried other ammo? from what i recall reading on MF.com, it sounds like maybe your lower receiver is a touch out of spec. good luck! my cetme is still in pieces in a box... heath
  13. that's all well and good tony, but the left won't trust reports like that. they don't give the information they want, therefore, they must be embellished.
  14. headed out with my neighbor to an idaho private club today. i took my DPMS/H-Bar AR and my sako browning 22-250. i had never shot either. started with the AR, got it popping fairly small groups at 25 yards. stepped out to 200, dinging the 18" gong we had out there. by the end of the day, i was dinging the 400 yard 2" plate with frightening regularity. this gun is a A2 stocked military upper gun with the heavy barrel and ribbed handguard. the coach of the 4 man airforce marksmanship team shooting at the same time seemed impressed! he gave me the thumbs up several times with the ring came back, signaling a hit. his team were shooting their M4's and M9's, getting ready for a competition. i thought it looked like they needed A LOT more practice! with their red dot scopes, they were shooting 10" groups off the bench at 100 yards. hmm... maybe that's good? i had the 200 yard gong swinging every shot with open sights! anyway, they were nice guys, though i thought it was odd none of them even glanced over when my neighbor started firing his Sig 556 with the 3.5 - 14 nightforce scope and suppressor. that suppressor sure knocked the crack out of the shot! then i shot 50 rounds through the sako/browning. i just put a scope on it after 10 years of sitting in the safe at my dad's. at 25 yards, it was cloverleafing, as it should. i was shooting 100 and couldn't find the hits. not in 10 inches! but the 200 yard gong was singing. strange... figured out i was shooting high ( a lot) and got it going well enough that a coyote better not stop within 400 yards! i'm a happy dude! skipped over half a day of work, and MAN! was it worth it!
  15. sounds like fun! i'm going to try to hit the range on monday with my neighbor (if i can play hooky from work). i need to shoot my AR-15 (just joined the upper and lower) and sako browning 22-250 (just mounted the scope after 10 years). maybe a little .40 SW if there's time to get my Kahr shooting where it should.
  16. 8uck5nort, i'm still planning on the 30-40 conversion. i have a few of the clips and 100 pieces of new brass. i've got a ton of other projects i'm working on, not all gun related, so it's been slow going. the 30-40 and 7.62x54 seem to be the medicine for the steyrs.
  17. happy birthday don! hopefully you go to do something fun as opposed to something crappy! heath
