  1. all good suggestions... and i LOVE Karl's rules, but really like the idea of prison being "hard" what do you guys think of the jail in arizona that makes the inmates work on chain gangs and live in military surplus tents, and wear PINK underwear. i hear the inmates hate that place... and the crime rate went down some after the sheriff started it. self sustaining prisons... what a beautifuyl dream... real penalties for violent crimes and repeat offenders... the most beautiful dream...
  2. not sure how many of you visit accurate reloading... but this is too good to pass up seeing... http://forums.accuratereloading.com/groupe...043/m/166107244 imagine the possibilities!
  3. not finding a lot of info on the cartridge dimensions for the 8x56R (or the 8x52R), i have come under the impression that at least the 8x56R is similar in case head size to the 7.62x54R. am i correct in this? i have the 7.62x54 at .570 head, 2.105 trimmed length, and 3.048 COL. so if we assume that this has some similarity to the target 8x56 & 8x52 for either the M95 or the Siamese, this leads us to the following choices for rebarreling... going through my hornady reloading manual, i find the following rimmed cartridges.... 7x56R - .524, 2.549, 3.291 .303 Brit - .540, 2.212, 3.075 30-40 krag - .545, 2.304, 3.089 405 Win - . 543, 2.573, 3.175 .444 - .514, 2.215, 2.570 .45-70 - .608, 2.095, 2.295 so, none of these have the same size head diameter... but if you need to go UP, that's ok, it's like going up on a mauser. does this rule out the smaller rim diameter cartridges? that only leaves the 45-70... or would you (or could you) solder a reducer ring to the face of the bolt? i have heeded Z1r's advice and understand the falacy that is the siamese 45-70 feeding flawlessly.... but i know little (ok, nothing) about the M95... other than you MUST use the en bloc clip, and the carbines are kickers.... :-) on a siamese action, can you use a standard mauser bolt to make using a smaller head size cartridge more feasible? sorry for the rambling.... lots of things rattling around in my head about the siamese and M95...
  4. Z1r, good to know.... and just so you don't get tired typing, you don't have to respond to the same thread at Accurate reloading.... :-)
  5. just wondering what rounds would be suitable for a rifle shooting rimmed rounds.... like a siamese or a M95 straight pull..... i understand they both fire the 8xXX R cartridge, just curious as to what a person might do with one.. i have heard, i think, of a .444 on a siamese. just exploring some options.... i dont have either of these rifles, yet.... :-)
  6. so you bought the wire from "bob"? :-) i may have called it bob wire in the past, but always written it barbed.... and never heard of steeples until you crazy guys! :-)
  7. just so everyone knows, what happens if you go too far? i have always heard not to do it, but never why.... so what the deal?
  8. dremel will work, as will files.... GO SLOW! CHECK OFTEN! that's the main things to remember... now go have fun!
  9. flaco, so why doesnt this hardworking, otherwise honest worker go ahead and become a citizen? i realize have used a fake SS card for all those years may cause problems, but that's part of breaking the law, you have to live with the consequenses. so should this illegal be granted citizenship just because he's been here for so long? what about his wife and kids? should they be granted citizenship just because they've been here so long with a father that works 2 jobs to support them? where is the line that says illegal is illegal, no matter how hard a worker the guy or gal is? just because someone is a hard worker does not make them automatically qualified to be granted citzenship. you have to go throught the process, just like the millions of immigrants that have come before that did it the right way. i, and i think most, have no problem with those that follow the rules, but you have to follow ALL the rules. just as every man is created equal, every man should have to play by the same set of rules, be you an immigrant, minority, woman, native - rules are rules. right?
  10. well, for those that like unique grips on their pistols, my neighbor recently put up a web page... http://www.x-calibergrips.com/ with some fantastic styles of grips he makes. i had him make a set for my dad's kimber pro carry 2 in thuya burl, and they are SO beautiful! i will be making a set (with his assistance) in cocobollo for my Polish P-64 9x18, probably this autumn when he's less busy. he specializes in 1911 grips, bu i have seen others on Sig's, Revolvers, browning Hi-powers, etc.... he also does knives, and is working with carbon fiber for pistol grips and knife handles, and man, are they cool! so if you're interested in some real quality craftsmanship, give him a call or email. there are no corners cut in the production of these grips. the fit is much better than factory, and the other "custom" grips i've seen are not made with the same precision as these. (gee, it sounds like i'm trying to sell them for him, but really, i get nothing if he does sell them...)
  11. the indoor range here doesn't want you to pick up your brass.... they consider it theirs (huh?), but i know several guys that pick it up, and no one really says anything... and i know one guy that that picks up EVERYTHING, and he hasn't been told not to, yet....
  12. well, the bolt is polished, the matte black is flat black/bluing. and jason, i LOVE walnut stocks. i have several chunks of walnut stored above my bench, 2 plain grained, one semi-fancy and one x-tra fancy, but there is a bark pocket that i dont know how deep it goes. i guess i'll find out when i have it turned! and i have a real nice piece of fiddle back maple at my dad's house. so i am not all about wood or all about synthetic. this gun's primary use is going to be elk hunting in varied terrains and may be bumped around a bit. i figured synthetic would best fill this niche. since i live in spokane just 3 miles from the Biesen family, i might give them a call and see what kind of stock patterns they have. i'm sure it will be more money than i woulod like, but the quality will surely be worth it! with the reports i have heard of Richards and Boyds quality, i suppose it'd be money well spent. i haven't called them yet because i hate to get involved with things i can't pay for yet. it might be a year or two..... has anyone here ever had a stock cut by the biesens?
  13. this one has no aluminum bedding. i think the fit is better than some factory stocks, and probably some aftermarket wood...... i didn't bed it because B&C say not to. we'll see how it shoots.
  14. LL, were are you located? I'm from walla walla now in spokane...... you in tri-cities? moses lake? cheney? well, here are the photos!!!!!! YEAHHHHHH!!!!!! (please try and overlook the holes in my yard.... danged white dog! if she wasn;t so cute, she'd be IN one of those holes!)
  15. finally, after a few years, my 1943 sauer 30/06 is done! i got it back from Mel Doyle yesterday (overnight delivery!) with it's matte black finish. it's a beautiful black bluing job, probably the nicest matte blue (black) i've seen. i cleaned it all up and screwed it into the stock... what a beauty! remounted the scope and am ready to shoot! i checked the firing pin protrusion... need to recheck it to make sure i won't puntcure a primer on the first shot. my quick measurement said either .065 or .057.... hmmmmm..... better recheck it. the details.... 1943 sauer with nazi markings intact traded a rem 870 express at a gunshow for it. it was in a hacked richards microfit, supposed to be a 8mm/06 with really short barrel with a set of rcbs dies. turned out to be a 8mm mauser. yanked the barrel and bought a A&B 30/06. had it installed with skaggs, who did a great job. it already had a timney no-safety trigger, leupold one piece scope mount, hinged triggerguard (Numrich, i think). i bought a bell and carlson stock from midway (along with the barrel) and painted it my own brand of camo. will try to get pictures tomorrow in the sun. I'M SO FREAKIN' HAPPY! ONE DOWN, 5 TO GO........ :-)
  16. (remarks in order of photos) hmm... boy, that tent got ruined... ... kind of a bummer, but tents aren't that big of a deal... ... geez, what'd they do to that bear?... ... shoot him in the butt? ... HOLY SCHITT! ... OMG! Yikes! ... the horror.... the horror...
  17. that part of this equation is one i had not thought of! these illegals can't vote...so what do they hope to accomplish? the leaders of our illustrious nation need to realize that fact, that WE, the TAXPAYERS are the ones that pay their salarys, and WE, the LEGAL CITIZENS of this country are the ones that elect them. hmmm... maybe this is something that someone out there needs to make note of. kinda funny that first i hear of it is from some guys on a gun board... where's the press when we need them?
  18. is that front base dovetailed into the receiver? seems like that'd be a pretty big cut....
  19. ckeck snopes.com. big bear, just not quite THAT big.

well, i'm 28, and i missed three.... (and i loved the lone ranger as a kid... shoulda paid more attention!) so what does that make me? 50 in a 28 year old body?
  22. ok, so what do we do about it? elect more fiscal politicians? does such an animal even exist?
  23. thanks tombstone! i found a site dedicated to th P64, and they have a fix for the DA trigger pull. now, if SOG would ever get back to me, i'd buy one!
