  1. so, i know everyone says not to, but why not use a mig? i mig'd a bolt on several years ago with a deep v, lots of weld and it seems to be holding up just fine. when i heard a mig was bad and the handle would fall off, i really wailed on the bolt, smacking it open and closed. it hasnt wiggled...
  2. thankfully you have a lifetime of memories to remember all the good times! revel in those good times, and celebrate her life!
  3. was it clark? for some reason his name sticks out...
  4. rod, here is the schematic... 1/4-20 and 5/16-24 holes are .75 deep, tapped with bottoming tap. 10-24 holes are .5 deep (counting the counter bore). does any of this make sense?
  5. hey guys, i have a small project i'd like done, but don't have access to a lathe. thought maybe one of you guys could use a couple extra bucks to help a guy out... i'm trying to put together an archery stabilizer and need two aluminum plugs machined and threaded. pieces will be 1.25 inches OD, stepped down to 1.2, one threaded 1/4-20, the other 5/16-24, interior bored .35 and tapped 10-24. i have a detailed drawing showing all the steps, holes and such. i can provide the aluminum and pay for your time and tools machining, or if you have access to this type of stock, i can pay for time/tools/material. PM me or post here... either way! if you can help, i'd really appreciate it! heath (psst... stop staring at my avatar!)
  6. dang, brother! sounds like a bunch of trouble you might have avoided if you'd listened to the hippy! the dentist isnt a bad person if you go regularly, but if you wait until it hurts, you aint gonna like it! =)
  7. awesome! i've been hankering for a pocket smith or taurus for a couple of years now. i admit being a bit jealous!
  8. if it's a good product, you dont need luck! i'm sure you'll hit a home run with it!
  9. my dad has several thousand rounds of spent blank 30/06 cases. they date prior to 1980. they are standard length cases with a heavy crimp at the case mouth, not the extra length star crimp. i have read conflicting reports online about the suitability of such brass for use with normal bullets. some say blank brass was rejected by the manufacture for various reasons, and others say it's just like the real stuff and go for it! if it's viable brass, we're thinking about using it, but i wanted to get a few more opinions before doing so. cases look just like the one on the far right
  10. so far i've got 2 tips... $4 and $2. i thanked both tippers earnestly and sincerely as they are not required to tip. i've not had anyone mad at me yet... most are glad to see me and it looks like i'm a quick learner. i can get in your car within 10-15 seconds. the job isnt too bad, yet... no late night calls. i only had 4 calls today, which doesnt make much money. i'm guaranteed a base, and if i bill over that i get more. one day last week i billed $119 in one hour. i believe it was wednesday, my third day. the same day i had a call 23 miles out of town, up a driveway of 6" of mud. on the way out, i found a rock buried in the mud and knocked a 1 inch hole in the oil pan! the engine shut off and i had to call the boss to come rescue me in his tow rig. he was pretty cool about it... not like i did it on purpose. put a new pan on the van and it runs fine, no knocking or ticking. what a way to start a new job! =)
  11. i second that! enjoy your birthday!
  12. hey Hey HEY! don't go blaming the most stable and user friendly OS widely available for your photobucket troubles! what seems to be the problem, sir? if your photo links are becoming dead, it can only be because the photo was moved in your photobucket account, or deleted. if you create albums and move previously posted photos into those albums, the link is no longer valid to any post you pasted those pictures in prior to the creation of the album. kind of a bummer, but it's not a MAC specific issue.

  14. i missed 2. the mcquade and ackley...
  15. best of luck to him, and thank him for his service for us!
  16. just a minute! wasnt it just a few months ago you had a birthday? is this just a ploy to get congratulations???? happy birthday, old timer! heath
  17. i took it. couldnt really pass it up, as i hate not working. it'll be a challenge, but should be interesting. went on a handful of runs with a kid today and it's not rocket science, but with all the makes and models of cars, learning the tricks to opening them quickly will provide an interesting diversion! thanks fellas.
  18. i'm looking at a job doing roadside assistance (AAA, Costco, dealer insurances) and the job is an on-call position. i've never done that, and wonder how it affects your home-life. pay is % off calls, and i know the faster you work, the more calls you can take, but is it worth it? i'm 31 and been out of work since the 1st of november. the state has not ruled on my unemployment status, so i've only received assistance from family. i've had a couple of interviews, but with the sheer number of people applying for jobs, well, the fact this company is interested is nice. for 7 years i've been a desk jockey graphic designer, but such jobs are nye-on impossible to find. I have a wife and 2.5 year old. i was making $14.50 and just scraping by. the base for the on-call position is minimal, but according to the boss, the guys he has now are doing $500- $700 per week. i am going to ride with one of the guys tomorrow, and have a ton of questions. i dont drink but once or twice a month, and my wife thinks it sounds fine (of course she does... but i'm not sure she really gets it yet...). i would get 2 days off a week, one if i decided to work more... decisions, decisions... heath
  19. well, george strait is still kicking, but when chris ledoux died, country music did as well (at least in my opinion). garth brooks was the beginning of the end as far as i'm concerned... never did like that guy!
  20. monte kennedy's book on gunstock checkering and carving is well worth investing in if you have even a passing interest in checkering. there are a myriad of patterns and the information is really invaluable.
  21. now that make a bunch more sense to a feller like me! ;-) and it sounds quite useful! as someone who's been in and out of hospitals for the last several years, i like the idea!
  22. when buying a barrel, buy a small ring. when buying scope mounts, trigger guards, safety parts... buy large ring.
  23. most of that blew over my head, but your excitement shows through! congrats!
  24. your turk is a large ring receiver with small ring threads.
