  1. yeah, in the white means bare steel. i would suggest bluing or gunkote style finishing over powder coat.
  2. OH MAN! i'd SO be fishing ALL THE TIME! dolphin, tuna, various snapper/grouper... UGH! now i wanna go fishing! gee, THANKS dt!
  3. tony, at least you live in an part of the world where you can see this kind of thing on a regular basis... i'm 6 months from bikini tops here!
  4. james, i've pretty much given up on local suppliers. internet is the way to go... each link below has D2 in a variety of sizes. they are in no particular order http://www.texasknife.com/vcom/index.php?cPath=87_924_70 http://www.jantzsupply.com/cartease/search-products.cfm?field=categories.primary&string=Precision%20Ground%20Flat%20Stock&string2=Barstock http://www.admiralsteel.com/products/blades.html https://www.flatground.com/catalog/catalog.jsp http://www.crucibleservice.com/index.cfm http://www.alphaknifesupply.com/bladesteel.htm#BS-D2 http://www.onlinemetals.com/merchant.cfm?id=157&step=2&showfrac=yes&top_cat=131 D2 is great steel, but if you decide to do this route, unless you have a professional heat treat oven with PID and all the necessary bits, i would send the blade out to a pro for heat treat. most dont charge much, and it a great asset to have someone who has the process down to a science. and thanks for the compliment! i do love this knife!
  5. I don't pretend to be a great artist, but I'm pretty durn proud of this one! 4.25" OAL, 1.5" blade 1095 (HT by Delbert Ealy), tapered tang, bookmatched Cocobolo w/ hidden stainless pins, superglue finish. sheath is dyed oxblood and dk brown, stippled with elk leather inner collar. First knife i've used my maker stencil on. It's going to my wife's oldest brother for Christmas. I'm going to have to do one for myself, because it kinda hurts to send it off! it's my Dogfish design (smallest out of my 7 knife Shark series) and has some Tom Krein influence.
  6. takes a while, but it's worth it! (hope no one gets offended )
  7. it's tough, but better than extended suffering. condolences.
  8. yeah man, get tested. you dont want the Hi 5!
  9. highlight the IMG Code, copy and paste.
  10. i know i've said it before, but i'd dearly love to take my dad on a pig hunt! what does it take cost wise (tags, licensing, processing) to shoot pigs? heath
  11. $30 bucks? dang, that's a good price for a new barrel, especially one so unique! what length are they, if you don't mind me asking? and they have enough meat to put on a large ring mauser? heath
  12. WHEW! i got tired just READING that! there is something to be said for a good old american rig, hence the 72 4wd handle... i can sit in the engine compartment and work on my pickup's engine (though i don't drive it much anymore... it's the '02 pontiac grand prix that gets the daily use...)
  13. here's the scene. i am rebuilding the hinge on a small ring guard for my 24/47. the hinge was trashed: drilled offset, oversized, partially collapsed... i was planning on using some hardware store keystock and drill and shape it. with that, i was planning on welding it with my wire feed. currently it's running flux core, but adding a bottle is not a big deal. i have some lincoln brand wire from home depot. my proposed finish for this gun is matte black. i have the same finish on my 30/06, and it's pretty even. it's almost like a coating. Mel Doyle in St. Maries, ID did it. i will look around for a tig man, seeing how this is pretty delicate welding. I'm good, but i'm good with pretty heavy stuff!
  14. when you reply, there's an open field above the blue button (i see it now!) with Attach This File on it. hit browse next to the open field to select the image from where ever you have it stored, then hit attach this file.
  15. WOOT! happy birthday bud!
  16. HOLY TOLEDO! good job for junior... i assume he wasn't packing out the quarters, as he's not crushed into the ground!
  17. WHEW! you guys had a good day!
  18. so, level with me... when i get ready to weld up some trigger guard stuff, is it going to be really obvious? will the bluing not take to mig wire? with only a mig box, what are my options? heath
  19. man, if only i had a job and some extra cash! the gun show that started today in town is jam packed with good deals on mausers and decent deals on more than a dozen springfields! ARRRRG! full rifles (non matching for $150), VZ-24's (4 or 5 of them) full rifles for $175, ultra clean siamese action for $175, lots of clean guns for $250 and less.... AAAAAARRRRRGGGGG! i left my Rem model 11 12 gauge on the table my neighbor has out there. I put $400 on it. a little high according to gun broker, but leaves some wiggle room. if i got $350 or $325, that would sure help with a couple of bills coming... i was really looking at the BNZ45 right behind "our" table... it has a redfield peep on it for $125, crap stock, '06-AI 2-groove barrel, i came home and did research on the peep, as i want one pretty bad, but it's not the version that's easily adjustable. not worth as much as i thought. so, without a job and so many good deals, it's just my luck! =)
  20. tony, sure i got plans! i'm gonna get another job! =) I have 12 or so people checking everywhere: friend in the hotel industry, friends in the automotive industry, a friend owns part of a bar ( and she knows everyone!), wife and friends at the schools... i dont plan on being unemployed for very long!
