ken98k
FC's "customs" thread reminded me of giant elms when I was a kid. Before succumbing to Dutch elm disease, they seemed to be everywhere. I think every town in New England had an Elm St. I wonder if there are any left?
gun nutty
American elms? They have a Dutch-elm-disease-resistant variety that can be bought: http://libertytreesociety.org/American_Liberty_Elm.html
FC
I went to visit our old house in South Dakota. Most of the old elms, believe it or not, are still there!
ken98k
We had a couple giants in our yard when I was a kid in New Hampshire. One of them whose branches spread out over the neighbor’s house also, until one of the limbs broke off causing severe damage to Mr. Woods’s roof. Fortunately Dad's home owner insurance paid for the damage, unfortunately, at the urging of his insurance company, Dad had both the stately cut down before they could do any more damage These are the kind of Elms I remember. (I found these photos on Wikipedia)
