AzRednek
While Dove hunting recently I came across a pile of brass left in the desert by some shooters to lazy to bend over and pick or rake up up their mess. I scored 30/06, 223, 30 Carbine, 762X39 and 40 S&W. All reloadable brass. Also in the pile were 3 Garrand Clips and three live US military 5.56 rds. I was fortunate enough to have my grand kids along to help me scrounge up the brass. The 556 brass has a green tip. The green tip is new to me. Does anybody know what the green specifies?? At my gun club years ago I heard a horror story about somebody finding some 30 Carbine ammo in a popular, desert shooting spot. Shooting the ammo weeks later the shooter discovered the ammo apparently was handloaded probably by a prankster or idiot. The end result was damage to his gun from an over load most likely deliberate. He claimed the hot round burst in the chamber and bent his operating rod. After pulling the remaining rounds the club member claimed most appeared to have been over loaded with Bullseye powder and he also claimed to have pulled a few 30 Carbine rounds loaded with black powder. The 556 rds I found don't show any signs of being handloaded but I'm going to pull them just in case some weirdo decided to pull a sick prank. I'll use the bullet, primer, brass and my own powder. If the green tip are green colored tracers I'd really like to shoot them but don't want to risk starting a fire in the desert.
gun nutty
http://www.itstactical.com/warcom/ammunition/military-ammunition-and-why-green-tip-m855-is-not-armor-piercing/ "While having a Steel Penetrator Tip, this doesn’t constitute M855/SS109 as “Armor Piercing.” The round was designed for increased penetration at longer ranges to combat SAW (Squad Automatic Weapon) issues though." So "semi-AP"?
brokengun
WOW! what a find! I cant even find brass and you find it out in the desert just laying on the ground. Plus you got helpers willing to help old grand-dad carry his booty. I would say your a blessed man! P.s. I have a feeling that having your helpers with you made the find that much more enjoyable
