He’s building a dude den in his shop and is using steel. His biggest and good point he made is he won’t worry about sparks when welding or grinding. He said that wood is actually more fire resistant than steel and that it's the house contents that catch fire, not the house. He said if you take two beams, both rated at 1000 lbs, and put them over a fire with 1000 lbs in the middle, the steel beam will fail first. Anyway, gives you something to think about.
