sandyridge1123
I am looking at a walnut stock from richards microfit. Can someone tell me the differance between claro, English, and American Walnut? What are the pros and cons of each? Ken
Guest Guest_z1r_*
I'm far from an expert but Claro is softer, tends to be a bit harder to checker but has a lot of figure for the money. English is a bit lighter in colour, a lot harder, takes checkering well and costs more. American tends to be darker, has larger pores, the pieces I've had experience with put it somewhere between the former probably closer to English. Ken Great American Gunstock Co. has a pretty good description of woods. http://www.gunstocks.com/grade.html Kenny
z1r
Here is a better description of the woods. http://www.dressels.com/id15.htm I prefer circassian. I'd rather have a plain stick of it than a fancy piece of claro. Claro is good thopugh for light weight rifles that don't kick hard. Match the wood to the application.
