karlunity
Any one know where to find screwdrivers to fit a Remington New Model Army 1858? Most of mine won't fit and the ones that might fit are only "kinda sorta". I don't want to strip the screw heads so I need to find proper screw drivers. Karl Buddy...your best bet is to go online to Brownells or Midway and buy one of those basic "Gunsmithing" screw driver kits, these were formerly made by Chapman but several companys now produce them....some, like those from Brownells have guarntees.......the tips are hollow ground and there are enough in a kit to choose one that will fit exactly! Only thing I would suggest...is to melt a pot of lead, as when casting bullets, drop the tips in the molten lead until the lead will no longer cling to the tips.....remove and let cool....this will effectively temper the thin ground tips, most of these kit tips are brittle, and when torque is excessive...can break and skitter across the finish .....ruin a gun...or worst a hand. Good Luck Jarhead! I shoot an old Lyman .36 Remington Navy model......it shoots better than most all of the .38 target guns I have owned or built.......and are twice the fun!
