Stomp your foot and say, "NO!"

I tell ya, I can start to identify with the Founding Fathers. I'm sick of an ever increasingly intrusive and socialistic government. I have been haranged by the Census Bureau to provide the much criticized personal information. It is far too intrusive. It goes beyond your counts. It asks a lot of personal information they don't have any business knowing. In fact, if they want some of that, the Census Bureau can go talk to their comrades at the IRS. I have thrown away both notifications, which warned that by law, I must complete and return the surveys, which benefit your community, blah, blah, blah... Now they called and left a message to call them with my case no. They can kiss my grits! Just like Calif. gun laws, I know it is risky if you live there, but if I did, I would tell them to kiss my grits there too, and public disobedience on a large scale should ensue.

If the census people continue to bug me I'll go to my congressman and senators.

I got something similiar back in the early 80's. I was contacted at my front door after sending back an incomplete form. I told the gal I would only provide name, sex, age and marital status. I shut the door in her face and she knocked again. When I opened the door again she asked well can I least ask your occupation and being a smart donkey I said I was unemployed and she immedialty followed with a question about food stamps. I said no, shut the door and never heard from them again.

It's been a while since I filled out my census forms, but as I recall, I wasn't all that happy with some of the questions for maybe the same reasons that FC mentions. The questions are invasive, require responses that are too in-depth for census purposes and are offensive to privacy-minded folks to boot!

While my own replies on the census forms were not remotely as funny as karlunity's (plus, I am not MALE), I did take a few liberties with my responses...and though I didn't lie outright, I sure as shootin' didn't help them find stuff on me by volunteering too much. I remember checking my form for bar codes, or codes of ANY sort, and if I found suspicious markings or anything I perceived as traceable, I struck through it with a Sharpie pen...being careful to completely obliterate the offending information.

I have always been suspicious of censuses, censi...whatever, because, being and growing up around American Indians, we tend to believe that a census is a way of determining just how many more of us there are to kill off! LOL! So, even though I will continue to aid American Indian programs and statistical counts by disclosing the facts, I will always "encode" these counts in a fashion that hopefully doesn't lead back to me directly. If that ultimately means that my information isn't counted, so be it...I am not about to open myself up to the next weird thing that the government can conjure up!

I have often thought how the word census in the case of government might just as well read control. When they send their forms out it is pretty obvious they want far more than just a number count. Then, if not filled out you get called, visited and threatened with being in violation of the law. I too skip most of the questions on the forms. The last time we ended up with one of the long forms and I refused to fill it out except for the few relivent questions. Thought I had heard the last of them, but in the end they showed up at the house while I was at work and convinced my family to give in. Wish I had been there at the time, as they would have gotten the door slam treatment from me. Anytime they are that persistant it makes me suspicious as to the real intent of their endeavers. swamp thing
