Ron J
I've seen these little metal ovals on the sides of the forends on old JP Sauer Mauser sporters. I've also seen them on Maurice Ottmar customs. Does anyone know what they are for? Do they go all the way through like crossbolts? What say the experts? On Mausers, they serve as the recoil lug for the action, mating to a small shoulder on the bottom of the receiver, to transmit the recoil forces to the side webs of the stock. Ron J
I know about the crossbolt behind the receiver lug. I mean the oval shaped ones in the forend. In the picture of this rifle they are right above the guys head. I've not seen them on a milsurp. I'll try to find a better pic. This one is small. Thanks for answering, though. tinkerfive
Ron My guess is that it is an 'eye' for a sling option. I think that a small leather 'belt' can go through the 'eye' and feed through the sling. I'm probably wrong but, I had to guess.
z1r
Know how some old Muzzle loaders had a wedge that held the barrel in the stock? Same thing. Think forend screw only sideways and without threads.
