AzRednek
I sure hope our President shows respect today. The hype on talk radio has Obama and the head of France not inviting the Queen of England. She is the only head of state during the war that is still alive today. To bad our President is playing politics on a day we honor our Veterans. I never have known anybody that hit the beach on D-Day. According to the radio news any living veteran that hit the beach on D-Day is about 85 years of age today. My uncle was supposed the be in the invasion but broke his leg in a training accident in England and was in the hospital on D-Day. He claims his company had a 80% casualty rate. In the late 70's I worked briefly with a Marine that was at Normandy but he didn't participate in on the invasion. His ship shelled the coast and housed German prisoners. Jimro
I think that President Reagan's speech in 1984 is worth remembering. The text and audio file is available here. http://www.historyplace.com/speeches/reagan-d-day.htm Jimro
