  1. We watched this earlier in the week. This was very well played by the adults! Great Video!
  2. Hello. It has been just over three years since I was on the forum. It feels as though liife has been a whirlwind over the last five years. I have become a father in law, a grandfather and have hit the mid century mark. I haven't been working on Mausers. I'm not sure if I still have the bug. I have one complete and three projects. I have had the AR BUG for a couple years. After burning a hole in a coworkers ear getting AR info from him (two years of questioning) I finally took the plunge and built a varmint set up for long range shooting and hopefully some hunting along the way. I hope and pray that all are well. I'm sure that others have come and gone. I'll read and try to catch up a bit and hope to be around for a bit. lc
  3. I miss good southern Sweetea! I liked to order it half sweet and half unsweet. It isn't like syrup then but is still good with that strong tea flavor. When we moved up north I was shocked at what was served as iced tea! Tannin water is what it was :-)
  4. Not sure which was better. Clint or the Empty Chair! Loved both. lc
  5. Well said sir. Well said. I was terribly disappoint when President Bush appeared on stage with the Priest, Rabbi, Imam, Pastor (I don't remember the exact order or representation but it was multi-religious) at a 911 commemorative. That act further supported this nominal Christian thinking which is rampant within the church. lc ps. As I understand scripture, the affirmation of Christ's declaration that He is the only way further offends in that all other religions teach that man, of his own will, understanding and power can come to God and make things right, recognize his need. John 1:13 shreds this idea.
  6. Ken,

Trying to remember what part of AK you're in and was thinking North Pole. Do you know a fella named Tim Calhoun in NP? I knew him in Hobe Sound, Fla back in the mid 80's. Just came across his page on Facebook and was thinking small world.

  7. Under 200 sounds like a good buy if the barrel is clean. If the barrel is bad? Sometimes they shoot well anyway. Will you have a chance to run a cleaning rod through the barrel? does it look like it's pitted? lc
  8. Can you add color to the epoxy to make it blend? Another option is to take some Elmer's glue and the fine dust from sanding the wood and make a thick paste that can be used to fillthe void and stabilize. The dust will help blend in naturally. May want to play with a scrap to test.
  9. Is the knot tight? Loose? Is opened or is the grain tight? Is it inside the barrel channel? Can you post a pic? Maybe a close up and one of the surrounding area? A lot will depend upon the characteristics of the grain around the knot when thinking about wood integrity. lc
  10. The history of the Puritan's is really pretty amazing. The revisionist historians have obvious motive to redefine what we understand of them. Like many, I grew up with a somewhat skewed understanding of their beliefs but a little study is all that is needed undo that. Their view of God and representative government, their influence, is the large reason that this country became a Republic.
  11. "must now grapple with an emboldened and empowered political enemy with its sights set on undoing much of what he accomplished in the last two years" It is interesting that the word "enemy" is being used to continually cast conservatives in a negative light. The very fact that we are "emboldened and empowered" would have us infer that we were subjects/subjected to a greater power. The arrogance of the Left is despicable!!
  12. Interesting concept. I like the idea of a lighter straight walled cartridge in a bolt. I'm not familiar with the way the Caranco (??) is set up but would it ream out to and reliably feed 357 Maximum cartridges? I understand that the Max can really scream out of a rifle where pressures can be pushed up a bit.
  13. karl, Do these types admit to having a "world view" or do they follow more of a post-modern ideology that tunes in to the latest and greatest view of things? Sounds like she is smart enough to realize/recognize that absolutes exist even though she would likely define them by her experience. Do they accept the exacting nature of language? Do they believe that they exist? lc
  14. That was GREAT! His closing line was classic.
  15. Rob, The stain is a good touch. Lets the grain show through. It contrasts nicely with the trim.
  16. Best Buy, In response to your recent corporate decision to support a Muslim Holiday when we are at war with Radical Islam, In response to your bowing to political correctness by stopping the use of the word Christmas and replacing it with "Happy Holiday", In response to your adopting the tenant of business practice that profit is more important than principal; Consider that you have lost me as a customer for the span of your companies existence. I will influence anyone that I can to avoid supporting your existence. A former customer, Steve (XXXXXX) Tell them what you think. I went to their website and sent this to their public relations lc
  17. To take your post a bit more seriously an active military fella who has been in Afghanistan many times since 2001 relayed a saying that he has heard. "Until Islamic/Muslim women love their children more than they hate Jews/Israel, this problem will always exist." While this is a general statement, it sure does fit the mothers/fathers of those who allow their children to be used as fodder for hate.
  18. I toured the SCREAMING EAGLES museum today at Campbell. Thinking of what they did in WWII, their history, we need to let the Military "just do what they do". This kinda thing is sad.
  19. Considering the source/origin of most psychological phylosophy, humanism/secular humanism, I'm always a little skeptical to define things/people/personalities using those terms. Based on what the Dr said and the evidence that we see from a spiritual/scriptural sense the man has issues. I think of Proverbs 3:5-6. He doesn't seem to fall into that description of living which implies many things in the negative.
  20. Glad the your trip was safe and a good time even thought no meat. Hopefully you can fill the freezer with some other critters! Will you be posting any pics of your outing? I have to hunt vicariously right not.......... lc
  21. Check out the muzzle? caps at Brownells or Midway. I got one of these for the Mannlicher that I'm working on. I had cut the swede barrel down to 20 inches so it's a bit thick. I didn't think that it would clean up and look good but I was able to open the cap up and get the barrel to fit like a glove. This inlets back over the stock and will help you get a nice thin line from the forearm up to the muzzle cap. That stock appears to have enough meat to thin it out like Z1R's rifle. You may have to glue a spline into the cleaning rod slot. Than can be made to look nice and blend well. At least it would give you some good practice and you wouldn't have to worry about inletting a barrel, action and magazine into another stock. I'd be really tempted to use what you have.
  22. The 96 action is more trim and a bit lighter. Most say don't load as hot as the 98. Other than that, those that load for the 96 action say that it does it's job at those pressures. If the action is good your golden. Z1R's pic gave me some inspiration for a mannlicher. There should be a link in the archives or sporterizing section. I cut down a Gustav to 20 inches and made a stock. The project is on hold right now but is very close to being finished. I'm going to try to wrap it up this winter. The lines of Z's stock are awesome. If you do a stock, especially if it's your first, try to go with the less is more concept. Handle some older guns. Get a feel for wrist size, how open and closed the grip is, really examine the lines. Layout is awesome when you can build in cast, camber and toe into the stock. I can close my eyes, shoulder this rifle and when I open my eyes I'm sighting right down the barrel. Better than I had hoped for.
  23. I'd clamp and glue the ends together after they had been squared and trued to the line of the barrel. If there is a barrel channel already cut I'd then cut a mortice between the two pieces that would no be exposed on the exterior after finish shaping of the stock. Make sure the mortice is in the bottom of the barrel channel where wood will be thickest. Then I'd epoxy a spline that was fit into the mortice that I'd cut. I'd be careful to fit it precisely. Maybe gorilla glue and I'd clamp it in place using a dowel, evenly spaced clamps and see how that worked. Might want to try it on a couple sacrificial pieces of wood first.
  24. Howdy, I have a couple Actions that I'm thinking of getting rid of. Give me a yell if your interested. lc
