  1. OK, I forgot that I had a set of the millet rings in vast orginized mess. I put them on and I had to go all the way to one side with one and all the way to the other side with the other to straighten it out. I also had to put a total of .1125" shim under the front base to even the rings out. I just got back from the range and it worked. As I was at the range, Chris from ER Shaw called and said to send it back. He said that there was no way that it could have been drilled off of center because they do it on a jig. I know that is wrong. I have a jig for D&T and I have drilled a couple out of center. That was why I wanted them to do this one. That and I just did not want to do this one. Anyway, It is a Turk K hale chambered in 8X57 in a 3 1/2 con. I put it in a Fajen walking varmiter stock. Which I have to say is not the best stock. The inletting is scary. Huge gaps and took a lot of epoxy to get everything level. Anyway, I don't know if I should send it back to them or not. They have had this since the second week of DEC. and I just got it back Tues. of last week. I have a feeling they will end up having it for a least another month. Chris said they would stop working on the other work they have to check mine out and fix it. But who knows how long that will take. There is 2 weeks of just shipping it back and forth. Thanks guys.
  2. Z, these are the rings that I am using.rings I already put the 20 MOA insert in the rear. Do you think that another 20 in the front would help?
  3. I have a problem with a mauser that I had built for me by a barrel manufacturer. When I mounted the scope, I thought it looked like it was not straight with the bore. So I took it out to break in the barrel and get the scope dialed in. The scope ran out of adjustment and the gun was still shooting about 4 ft to the right. I have the Burris rings that you can change the inserts to adjust the POI. I put in the 20MOA set in the rear ring and it is still shooting about 2ft to the right. Anyone else have any idea what else can be done. I also noticed that the rear base has a gap on the left side where it sould be sitting flat to the rec. I think they drilled it off center. I don't want the holes welded up and redrilled or have custom mounts made. I have a call in to them right now, but have not heard anything back. Anyone have any ideas?
  4. I just got this in my email today. I knew it wouldn't be long before someone did this.
  5. ST, the first time one of the birds explodes out from under your feet, You will be hooked for the rest of your life. There is nothing like it. Well, maybe like the biggest buck you have ever seen in your life walking out from behind a tree 10 yds from you.
  6. FC, there was not really a whole lot of training done for any of the dogs. You just have to make sure they come from good stock. You just have to do a little research and make sure that the dogs do not come from some puppy farm. One thing I looked for is if the owners were hunters themselves. And ask other people that have hunted with the owners or people that have their dogs. My older dog is really meant for duck hunting. He is real short and muscular. He is real good for short burst and plowing though anything in his way. The younger dog is more for pheasants. Long legged and skinny. He can cover a lot of ground fast and last longer threw the day. This is why I went with my old lady to find a dog for her. You have to think ahead.
  7. Your uncle is a lab?! Nah. if you look real close behind my orange hat, there is another lab there. He's hard to see. We were in Iowa, right on the eastern most part. On the nose as I call it. We were the only people at the lodge that had labs. There were about 50 other guys, and they all had pointers. There were about 3 differant breeds. None of the other groups limited out. The other guys were snubing us and the labs before we went out. You know that pointer vs. the flusher thing! After we all came back and they seen all of the birds we had they couls not believe it. Two of the other groups were able to see the dogs as we were hunting, said that they never seen labs work the ground as well as these three did.
  8. Some of my family went out yesterday morning on a paid bird hunt at a local hunting lodge. My one uncle in the blue sweatjacket, is having some health problems, and we wanted to all get out for a good hunt before he will not be able to go anymore. I am the the one that is holding onto the two labs. The lab on my left is my first dog I have ever had the honor to raise. He is 3 1/2yo. The lab on my rt is my second lad he is 8 months old. He was supposed to be my old ladies dog, but I took him duck hunting with me a couple of months back, and since then he wants nothing to do with her. The lab behind me is one of my uncles. The guy in blue jeans. His dog is just one yo. It was his and my younger dogs first pheasant hunt. Anyway, we ended up with 30 birds. Since we hunted on a private hunting refuge, that is why we were able to shoot hens. They raise them, then release them for the hunt a couple days before you show up. These birds did not act like pen raised birds at all. They were running and jumping just like regular wild birds. Enjoy.
  9. I just sent them an action 2 weeks ago. I am getting their 3.5 con. in 8X57. The lead time right now to get one back from their smith is 16 weeks . If you do, don't forget to send them your C&R. They give a 20% discount on the barrel and the bluing. I emailed just about every one of the barrel makers about an 8X57 barrel and SHAW was the only one that ever got back to me. And it was the same day. They have short and long chambered barrels if you go the do it yourself route.
  10. I found this site that has a lot of free targets. Don't know if you guys have seen this or not. targets
  11. Send it back to T/C. They have a lifetime warranty on them, and they are the best in the industry for customer satisfaction. I was given a New Englander for Christmas in a kit when I was 13. I shot that thing a lot when I was younger. When we moved to a new house when I was 17, I had it in the basement in a corner and for got about it. Last year I was at my mothers and went looking for it. This has been 16 years since I last seen it. It was still in the same corner, but a pipe had leaked water down on it. Lets just say it was a little rusty. I cleaned it up the best I could, but the barrel was shot! I talked to T/C and they said to send it in. Two weeks later I got a package back from them. A brand new barrel. Give them a call and see what they say. Just tell them you bought it new or you won it.

    M48 Stock

Well, I got the stock last week. Been sanding on it and sealing it up. It looks really good so far. The barrel channel is going to need a little work. The profile is almost perfect for the A/B #3. It is just a little shallow. But I would rather have it a little on the tight side so I can get it to fit right. Seems the action and and mag well are a little tight also. But, like I said, I would rather have it this way instead of big gaps. I ordered the A Fancy Montecarlo. It has some very nice grain to it. I don't know how to explain the type of grain but when you move the stock around the grain shifts like a hologram. I really like it. I'll try to get some pics soon.

    M48 Stock

I talked to Richards Microfit today. They will be offering their stocks for the M48 in a #3 contour. It looks like I might be getting one their first ones in a #3. Now, I just have to wait for them to make one. They are doing the program for the CNC right now. Hopefully they make a real nice one.
