  1. Actually, Karlunity, here in the PRC we are allowed certain SKS's. They can't have the grenade launcher on them, though where we are going to get grenades is beyond me. As long as they don't have a magazine that is detachable, or holds more than 10 rounds if non detachable, they are okay. Under the Roberti-Roos section of the assault bill, it specifially states "SKS with detachable magazine". In fact, the CA DOJ website states, "The SKS was originally manufactured with a fixed 10 round magazine. However, modified versions acept a detachable magazine and are assault weapons." Catagory 2 Assault weapons are bascially AK and AR-15 based weapons. Then comes the PC 12276 assault weapons. These are based on generic charactoristics. An assault weapon must first have a detachable magazine: Then any one of the following: flash hider, grenade launcher, pistol grip, thumbhole stock, forward pistol grip. If it has a fixed magazine, it must hold more than 10 rounds. Or, be shorter than 30" As far as I can tell, if there is no grenade launcher or it has been deactivated, then an SKS is not an assault weapon. http://www.ag.ca.gov/firearms/forms/pdf/awguide.pdf
  2. I use brake cleaner, basically the same stuff or similar to the degreaser that KG sells.
  3. And here, I always thought that Lorraina Bobbitt was the inventer of Snap On tools.
  4. spec4 e4, assuming the Wheeler is built like the B-square, it should have a positioning pin on the forward half of the Mauser guide. This pin goes up against the rear of the front ring, thereby positioning the front holes in their proper places. On my B-square jig, the Springfield guide has 2 pins, one in front and one in back. I tapped those up and out of the way to allow the jig to be adjusted forward and rearward. I will try to include a photo showing the Springfield guide in position with both pins tapped up and out of the way. Just imagine your Mauser guide in this same position with the pin in its proper postition against the front ring
  5. Fritz, to the best of my recolection, it was sometime around the time of the Pancho Villa. Though, I am trying to find it now. But, I found some interesting stuff up on the internet while doing a search for the incident. Stuff, either I hadn't heard about or had forgotten. Mexican army troops shooting a USBP agents, and thing like that. It seems there have been some very serious incidents of Mexican army patrols making excursions into the the U.S. territory. Funny how it never seems to hit the press.
  6. If I remember my history correctly, there was Mexican Army patrol who crossed the border into the USA to defend a town that was supposed to be attacked by a nortorious Mexican bandido. There can be times when we do get along. But, I do wonder about a group that refers to themselves as "La Raza"........The Race. I guess there are the only true ones in the world. Though, I am not too sure what they are the only true ones of.
  7. Well, with the weather conditions here in the Central Valley of CA the past week, I know I am going to Heaven!! 108* all week!
  8. Well, Dr. Hess, my understanding is that it is a violation of Federal Law and Case Law to tax retirement when one moves out of state. He may have to call someone. ShooterTom, I have no idea yet where to go. I am somewhat concerned after reading some of the postings by Fritz and others about moving to a state with no Personal Income tax. I realize they have to make up the revenue somehow, and taxing everything that is possible seems to be the way. Since I was born and raised here, I have no idea how I would deal with the snow and ice of some of the northern and eastern states, even if I am built like a teddy bear. Idaho sounds good, until one realizes that Sand Point, ID has the highest per capita of retired cops in the nation. Not to sure I want to hang around with a bunch of ex cops. So, if anyone has any good suggestions, I am always open. It is one thing to go visit for a while, like I used to do when I visited my grandparents in Southern MO. But quite another to stay and deal with the local flora, fauna, and local weather conditions that I am not used to. I am not to sure I could deal with the ticks, chiggers, and humidity of MO at my age. Not that I want to move to MO, just a case in point.
  9. If I modify a C&R, so that it is no longer a C&R, and I keep it, that is fine...........correct? Then, if I decide to sell it, and go through a -01 dealer, that should be okay, too...................correct??
  10. Hey guys, wait 8 days and then you can do all the civil disobediance you want.........................in 8 days I retire. Then I won't have to worry about arresting you.
  11. Basically, the aluminum is coated with Acraglass gel, then the copper tube is slipped over it. Only needed it for added strength until the epoxy is done. Not a high stress part. If I have to drop the tank again I will have a new part to replace it. As far as galvanic corrosion, I belive one usually needs some moisture for that. Average rain fall here is about 5" a year.
  12. I found a new use for AcraGlass Gel today. Quite unintentionally. I was working on replacing the tank mounted fuel pump in my Suburban, when I broke one of the fuel tank vents on top of the tank. No parts house had them, nor did I find any at the local Pick A Part salvage yard. It is of course Sunday, and the dealers aren't open for parts on Sunday. Sooooooo, back to the shop. I drilled out the hole where the tube had been. I took an old aluminum 22 cal pistol cleaning rod, and using my lathe, drilled out the threaded end and made the hole longer. Then I took a piece of Copper tubing the same outside diameter as the original plastic tube, and bored out the hole until it could just slip over the aluminum tube. I cut the copper piece aobut 1/4" shorter than the aluminum one. Then got out the acraglass. I coated the aluminum tube and pushed it into the broken vent where I had drilled the hole. Then pushed the copper tube over the aluminum tube, and coated the joint with loads of AcraGlass. Then let it sit in the baking oven, commonly called the Bakersfield, CA noonday heat in July. In about 3 hours it was solid to the touch and usable. Eat your heart out Dealer.

  14. Is it me, or just that it is early Sunday morning and nobody else is on. But, this site seems to "post" or whatever much quicker than the old place.
  15. Thanks, Tall Lynn. You are doing a great job.
  16. Remember, some of the Mausers and clones have non standard dimensions. I have a slightly off center front scope mount hole in one of my Siamese Mauser receivers. Off center due to the slight large/wider left receiver wall that the vertcal pin position against. Off by about 1-2 mm. I am probably going to have it tigged up, and redo it.
