  1. Same thing with me, I bragged about Great American Stock Co. only to have to eat my words. Last stock I got I asked for a Mannlicher stock for a Swed 94 with 1/2" barrel groove. Got a nice stock but all sorts of gaps to fill in. I wrote back to them and never heard a word. riceone

  2. I have done nothing to the metal or wood on the Jinsen, its just like I got it. Came out of a collection in Pennsylvania. It did not have a cover with it. Unless a cover is matching I don't leave it on even if it came with the rifle. I'm proud of this rifle.

  3. Horsefly, if you are not in too big a hurry I can fix you up with a bolt and add what ever type handle you want. Brownell sells a handle, looks like the old Win 70 that I have used. I have m ade some butter knife handles but that's work. riceone

  4. I have three barreled receivers (no bolts) with commercial barrels I would like to part with. Two have Springfield 30-06 barrels and one has a 22-250. They have the mums and I think I have the bottom hardware but no screws. If interested $40 each plus shipping. I can post pictures if need to. I gave $40 apeice for them and hauled them home from Arizona. riceone.

  5. There are two new books out that compliment Military Rifle of of Japan THE TYPE 38 ARISAKA by Francis C Allan and Harold W. Macy. 493 pages of information and charts, very good. Can be ordered from Francis C Allan, 20 Courtney Place, Palm Coast, Fl 32137-8126. Another book THE JAPANESE TYPE 99 ARISAKA RIFLE, by Doss White and Don Voigt, contains 113 pages or so of very good material. Can by bought from Lodestone Publications, POB 6 Eva, Alabaama 35621. The price of this book is somewhere around $30. Francis Allan book is arouond $60. riceone

  6. I don't think I have ever sportered a complete rifle, allways something amiss with them. Now I just use parts. If you think taking the front sight off a Japanese rifle is hard, try taking the riveted on bayonet band off one. Larger pin and lots tighter. riceone.

  7. I have not quit. Last one I did was the T2 Sporter and going to be hard to top that one. But I am working on a 94 Sweed action with a new Sweed barrel to make Mannlicher with 19" barrel and butter knife handle. I'll post pictures. I've always had some Japanese rifles, just got serious in the late 90's. Up to then what I had was just hodge podge stufff and I sold a lot of that to finance what I have now. riceone.

  8. I traded the first Japanese rifle, which was a T99 for a Type I because the man had 6.5 ammo. Got rid of it some where, but from the third on on I still have. It was a choppedup T44 and much later I put a commercial 257 R barrel in it and made a mannlicher sporter. Just ordered a mannlicher stock for a Swed 94 action from Great American Stock Co. Said it would ship in a couple of days. They give good service. riceone

  9. Then why not just make a bushing to screw into the 98 action and then turn the barrel to a diameter that will fit in the reamed bushing leaving both with adequate wall thickness for safety. I did one this way and held the barrel in t he bushing with a set screw right in the bottom - did it this way so I could slide the barrel in and out the bushing to head space it. I took the powder and shot out of cases and just used the primed case to set the head space with. When I got done I drilled two 3/8" holes through the bushing and just into the barrel and then welded from the inside out. This will work for a shotgun but not a rifle. riceone.

  10. Horsefly, Cleveland is about 2 hours west of Columbus. I use to go to Dallas a lot and would take 82 over across the river and then some highway (I've forgotten the number) to Monroe and get on 20 on over to Dallas. What I'm saying is if you are on 82 going to Columbus when you get to Leland you are just 20 miles or so south of Cleveland. Wether you attend the show or not if you come this way plan on visiting me. Extra bed room always avaliable to anyone. riceone

  11. Horsefly, we will have the show again next year. We are military collectors and do have some sportered military rifle in the show but not commercial sporters. I had a couple and several other did too. Be worth you trip, hope you can be here next year. riceone.

In this picture the man on the left in the blue sweater with hands behind his back is George Turner, He is a vetran of the second day on D-Day. The man standing at the end of the table with his hands in his pocket is Jay Ashford, he was a replacement at the battle of the Bulge. Jay is my neighbor and I go to church with George, both very gentle men. riceone.
