  1. I have talked to a couple of places that re-line barrels. I have a 30-30 that I would like re-lined to 25-35. The cost I have been quoted is $250 to $300. The reason I am inclined to re-lining instead of re-barreling is I would like to keep the vintage look of the old barrel. I do a lot of odd and hard things but looks like re-rifling would be very very difficult for all the reasons stated. riceone.

  2. If you do not have anything to measure head space with, why do you think something wrong? A little too much headspace is not something that will hurt you or your rifle. What are the signs you are reading to think you have excessive headspace. riceone.

  3. The "Bible" on Japanese rifles is "Military Rifles of Japan" by Fred Honeycutt. You can order a copy directly from him for $42 post paid and here is the address. You won't be able to put it down when it arrives. riceone.

  4. Friend of mine had a 98 he wanted the headspace shortened on and I did it for him. We used three factory cartridges as a gauge. When all three chambered with no drag we were home. I would not have gone to the trouble if it had been mine but then it wasn't. If you reload you can correct it without setting the barrel back. riceone.

Z1, I have moved a few sights and not been very successful in getting them back to shoot like before. Maybe someone can give me a solution. riceone.

  5. I don't have a book to tell me the series number, but maybe you can tell from the receiver markings, riceone.........

This rifle is externally crude in several areas where it doesn't really matter.  The bore, as mentioned above, is pristine.  Check out the bolt handle:

Your rifle is a 35th series made gy Toyo Kogyo, Hiroshima Prefecture. It should have a welded safety instead of the serrigated one. Does the numbers on the root of the bolt handle, firing pin and safety match the serial number on the rifle? riceone

  6. Thanks, I talked to a guy in state of Washington who will do it for around $250. think I will send it to him. There is a little more to it than I though - some work has to be done on the feed rails. They can also bore out to 38/55 if anyone is intersted.

  7. I have three Series 11 and two Series 10' that were made after your rifle. Looks like to me yours is a 7th? Anyway they all had cruddy bores till I ran a patch through them and they too had grease and dirt in them. I don't beleive they have ever been fired either. You have a nice rifle. I like that safety. riceone.

  8. I'm glad to see someone besides me appreciated Japanese sporters. They are very neat with no excess baggage. If you want to put a scope on one the safety needs no alterations, just the bolt handle. riceone.
