  1. Interesting post here. China is stocking up on copper, hardened steel and lead. Sounds like one of those end times prophesies taking shape. As far as cheap Chinese labor goes, a friend of mine is a nut broker. He told me that Pistachio nuts that don't split open naturally bring a far lower price so they ship those nuts to China where they are split open by hand and then shipped back and mixed with the others. I really can't see that as cost effective but he swears that they do it and turn a profit. And California is always tring to find a way to get around the Constitution and outlaw guns and shooting. Last year it tried to pass a law to force manufacturers to put serial numbers on each individual bullet sold in the state. Another bill tried to get gun manufacturers to somehow imprint a serial number on each bullet fired from a gun. Simply ridiculous in their efforts to "thwart crime". How about a few executions now and then?
  2. I recently bought a sporterized Swedish Mauser M96 with a butterknife bolt handle. I absolutly love the looks of butterknife handles but because the Swedish mausers are "cock on closing" it's really uncomfortable to chamber a new round. The edge of the butterknife cuts into the palm of my hand. The question is do I get someone to weld a ball on the end or should I replace the entire handle. Another thought I had is maybe there's a way to change the bolt so it cocks on opening like the model 98's. Any and all suggestions are welcomed (within reason that is)
  3. Thanks for the info. It looks like maybe I should look for a Czech 98/22 for the 338-06 or perhaps get someone to turn down the threads on the barrel I just bought so it will work in a small ring reciever like the 03/38 Turk. I believe it's got a full length bolt and magazine area. Although any other comments are welcome
  4. This has probably been covered before but I just couldn't find the information with the search function. The reason I'm asking is that I've got 3 projects in mind and need some advise on what reciever to use for the barrels I've got. Is the model 1903 Turk with the large charger hump threaded for small ring or large ring threads? I've got an 03/38 Turk I was planning to use for 6.5x55 and a Yugo m48 for the 7x57 but will the 1903 handle a 338-06?
  5. You can get a whole M48 or M48a from Sarco for $70. I'd think it would be a lot more trouble trying to fix that one when you could just start fresh with something else
  6. I know this has probably been done by someone somewhere but what are the pros and cons of sporterizing a Turk 1903 or 1893 into a .223 varmint gun? Is the case head size a problem being smaller than an 8mm? I'm thinking a .243 would probably be a good caliber also to consider but I was hoping to stay with the cheap ammo. .223 can be readily had for a reasonable price almost anywhere.
  7. I just got some Wolf 22lb striker springs to drop in my M48 and 1903 Turks to try for a little more power when shooting the 1950's Yugo 8mm. Now I'm a wondering if this will damage the firing pin or bolt in any way. The new spring is an inch longer than the old one and quite a bit stiffer. I know that these bolts are slightly shorter than a 98K so is this a bad idea??
