  1. One thing in the paper today mentioned that, in light of the gas price crises, the requirements for certain areas to have to sell special fuel may be eased.

They could ease up a lot of other assinine requirements also, if they are going to save the economy of this country. It's time to make a decision on what is more important--save our economy, or save the damned spotted owls!

I'm simply waiting for the mass realization that the American economy is under attack and has been for a few years now.

  2. Being from Oklahoma, I am very familiar with Wolf Brand chili...I grew up on the stuff.  Once, when I went back to OK a few years ago, I brought 10 cans of it back in my luggage!  My Dad never did care for Wolf Brand, but I never saw him turn down a hot dog slathered with it!  Now that I think about it, in the past few trips to OK over the last couple of years, I have forgotten to pick up a few cans to bring back...and I have been driving back there...it's not like I couldn't pick up a case or 12!  LOL!  Obviously, they don't have Wolf Brand chili here in CA.

They will ship it to you!

  3. I like peppers, sweet, hot...you name it, I like them...well, except habaneros because I have this strange idea that I need the skin on my tongue.

But just because I enjoy the occasional pepper, doesn't mean that I want them in everything, or that I have to prove something to someone by munching them down like candy.

I like my peppers to be an enhancement to my food, not to dominate it.  Many of my hard-core friends seem to think that they are better in my view because they will practically eat fresh peppers on their cornflakes, but I just find them amusing when they act like that...and until they can eat a habanero without screaming, they ain't poo!

I don't like my chili to be too heavily peppered either...I like the flavors of the meat and the spices.  If someone is putting in a whole bushel of hot peppers just to weed out the wusses and milk-drinkers, I wouldn't have a thing to do with their chili...they are probably just trying to cover up something lacking in their composition anyway.

To be honest, I still like my chili to come from a can...as tacky as that may be.  I don't ask anyone else to eat the stuff, but don't rip on me for my enjoyment of it!

I agree wholeheartedly that in chili pepper should be one spice among the others. I also eat canned chili but I prefer homemade. What brands do you like the best? I have found some seem to taste better than others. I've had some that tasted like the metal of the can.

  4. This is the body of the message I sent to the thirty or so recipients of the email:

Those who are bellyaching about the war generally haven't been there, and I have.

The news cites only the bad- killings, destruction, etc. It gives inordinate attention

to whiners who flock to Crawford. Do you know what they accomplish? Encouragement

to the terrorists in Iraq who kill our soldiers. I met the Pres. here in the hospital

at Ft. Hood, TX in 2004, Easter. He is a good man. I know that he has given a private

phone no. to injured soldiers in case they need anything, or don't receive good

    treatment.

I'm fed up with this Vietnam-ish crap.

I got tired of it before I volunteered to go to Nam. Actually long before I went into the Corps. These are some very stupid people and the news media is controlled by their leaders.

This woman carrying out her protest shames the memory of her son but she doesn't care about his memory. He volunteered for the military and the military exists for war. War means killing and dying. What the hell did she expect?

  5. I live in a pretty laid back rural area, not far from town, but with plenty of surrounding farmland.  I have 2.5 acres at the end of a 1/4 mile gravel road, with a nice big yard and trees all around.  Very private, and no worries about the kids chasing a ball out into traffic.  I love it here.  We know most of the nearby neighbors fairly well, and we're happy to be in such a nice spot.

Well, last month I came home to find a flyer on the doorstep from the local sheriff's office informing us that a level 3 registered sex offender was moving in just a couple hundred yards down the main road from us.  Great.  Time to load up on ammo.  I guess I can take small comfort in the fact that he likes little boys and I have three girls!

Watch your daughters and warn them well! You cannot trust that pervert.

  6. I don't cook the stuff myself, but had a friend that was called on to judge some once. He told me he was sorry he ever got snookered into it.

He already had a few beers in him, so I guess it was easy to enlist him. Needless  to say, he had to have a few more beers during the judging.

LBJ loved his Texas Red, and always had some for the news media when they came to his Texas ranch. Don't know if it was the real hot stuff, though.

I cook a pot every so often. It took me about 15 years to get it where I like it. It is a complex brew. I don't mind telling people that I don't believe in hot (pepper) dishes. I didn't grow up like that. I already found out that my mouth is too tender for real hot chili.

Thanks again, that was a heck of a funny story. I wish that I could see that skit on cable or in a movie.

  7. I don't carry a gun yet, but that's because I reside in CA where it's next to impossible to get a CCW permit.  All that will change for me when I relocate to NM next year...so I will be able to consider which carry gun I will use.

It's a toss up right now, between my Beretta .380 semi-auto and my S&W .38 Special snubby...though, I am leaning more toward the S&W.  More powerful cartridge, but fewer shots....

Which one is more accurate for you when you shoot it in a hurry?

    Jim

  8. I was told this by a fellow shooter several years ago and it has stuck with me since:

" More than likely the only time you will need a handgun is when your life is in danger. At that time, do you really want to be reaching for the cheapest handgun you could find?"

My Kimber has always gone BANG!

Very good advice and I will strive to remember it. I carry a Makarov mostly because I have found it to reasonably easy to hide, powerful enough, very accurate, and reliable. I like my Springfield Compact but I have to wear suspenders with it or my pants droop too much.

    Take care,

    Jim
