Your welcome, I saved alot more than that in gunsmithing fees as a result of the knowledge of this board. I'm glad to do my part. -Don

Addicting isn't it. The bad or good thing depending on your point of veiw is after a dozen or so you'll still feel the same way. -Don

Where's the post with your address? I can't find it since the move. Please post it again. -Don

From a safety issue, if it doesn't close all the way on a no go guage you're ok. -Don

Anything to look out for. I was looking to do a large 30 cal. Like a .300 h&h or .300 weatherby. Something a little smaller than my 30-378. I never done too much with enfield but I like the cock on close action of my 1917 winchester. -Don

I got the M4x.7 screws today and they fit pretty good. -Don

Don't ask how I know! -Don

Actually it's a great idea, No clean up, at night the varmits will clean up your broken targets. And a box of oreo's are cheap. -Don

Go slow. Check often. Use lot of oil. Never turn the reamer backwards, always turn when competing the cut and backing off. If your reamer squeaks, it's too dry. And alway fully clean the chamber of all oil and chips, (preferably with air)before checking progress with your guages. One chip and you'll get a false reading, then you'll be pulling the barrel back off and turning down the shoulders to correct the headspace. I'm sure I left out a lot be others will chime in. -Don

When it comes to this stuff there in no such thing as bad info. Everyone does things differently and has different expectations. That's why you should always test and try thing for yourself before commiting money or actions on them. All ideas give you a little more insite on the situation. -Don

Midway and Brownells both sell them. You can also find them on Ebay and Gunbroker once in a while. Most gunsmiths can also order and install them for you, they take fitting and aren't a drop in installation. -Don

carznguns, thanks for the update I couldn't find .75 screws anyway only .70. I'll order some and post the results. -Don

Long Island, I'll keep you in mind. I couldn't find any .75 screws all I could find are .70. I tried fastenal and enco and the local shops with no luck. I was thinking of running a 8-40 tap thru them and seeing if that would work. I also could weld the top solid and tap only the bottom hole and use the existing screws if I could find a tap. -Don

What I do is: if reheat treating is 90% both front lugs and 50% safety lug. If not heat treating lag until both lugs are about 50%, this way at least one lug still has good case hardening. -Don

Thanks guys, I'll order some 4mm-.75 screws and give them a try. I need them fully threaded to install from underneath for a flush screwless look and didn't want to open the hole in the action up too much. -Don

If I remember right the tap is outragously priced. I bought a counterbore for #8 at half the price when I had the same problem. -Don

Thanks Pedestal, That's kind of what I was looking to do, just feather in the colors. -Don -
I found out what it isn't. I tried 8-32, 8-36, and 8-40. None work. 8-36 comes the closest. -Don
-
Anyone know what size it is, I thought it was a 8-40, but it doesn't go in all the way. -Don
-
Thanks that's the answer I was hoping for. -Don

I've never worked on these before, but heard the barrels can be real tight. What is the proper way to remove the barrel without hurting the receiver. Will a releif cut help? Should I cast a custom vise bushing or grind flats on the barrel? This is for a mag conversion, so the barrel is being junked. -Don

If you bead blast the finish texture will closly match factory finishes. The mount on this rifle are leupold matte finish. -Don
-
I knew someone would have done it. Nice pic fmsniper. That's a courser look than you'd get by bead blasting, but looks like it would take alot less prep and polishing before blasting and cover alot of the imperfections these old surplus guns have. Also less glare for a hunting rifle. -Don
-
I've always, bead blasted them. Never try sand. Why don't you try a small part that you can easily refinish and let us know. -Don
-
Anyone have any experience with their products? I'm looking to do a full camo job on a 7mm rem mag. Stock, action, scope and all. I was hoping to add a sand type grit to it, their site says you can add a fleck or prizms, whatever that means. -Don
