  1. Other than a sunny hill or blackburn custom guards, both well worth the price if the rest of your rifle is the same quality, you can't beat a argentine guard. You'll have to do the recontouring and fitting of the floorplate yourself, but to me that's part of the hobbie I enjoy(anyone can buy a rifle). The first few I did with a hacksaw and file. Parts aren't hard to come buy if you look enough. Latches are easily made or cheap to buy (under $10). The only big expense other than the guard itself, is the floorplate ($75-100) depending who made them and the finish. See my post in "For Sale"

  2. Thanks Z, I can't seem to find a bolt handle I'm happy with so I was going to weld up a couple turk bolts with different styles to see what I like and was looking for a place to start. Ever since getting a wheatherby with a 55deg bolt lift, I seem to bang my scope with all my mausers.

  3. Correct.

    FYI,

Leupold part #52370 allows you to mount two piece bass without removing the hump.

I'm going with a set of the Leupold QR rings/bases on one of my next projects.  I hear they are very good about returning to zero.

I have a set on my 270 and I haven't had to resight it yet. Scope been off a couple dozen times.

  4. A while ago there was a post that askes if anyone was interrested in "slicked up triggerguards", the post was on the old forum, long gone. But the guy from Sporter Express made a few posts about it, I think he got one. You might try emailing him if that's the post you were thinking of.

    Z1r,

I'm interrested in more info on those release buttons, I've tried the FN style, but the button is too small. Can't work it with gloves on.

  5. I bought one of those cheap ones on ebay (sold it the next week). With the FN do you have any modifications you have to do to the shroud, like you do for the dayton? Where to you find them nowdays? Any one have any tricks on installing a chapman, Steve Wagner's site has some good pics and info. With the chapman or wisners you don't get the bolt lock feature, right?

  6. Lets hear everyone's opinion on safeties. What you you like/dislike. I'm looking for input on 2 and 3 position side swing safeties (what makes) and other low scope options (timmey and dayton). I won't build another rifle with the piece of junk trigger mounted safeties.
