  1. Skip is a great guy. Don't know how he can do jewelling as cheap as he does though. I figured it out at his rates I would be making under $15 an hour. I made him some bolt handles a while back and had a short talk with him. I never knew he did as much as he does before that. Don
  2. The fixed was what I was referring to. I have a couple lowers sitting in a box waiting for something. Don
  3. Looks good what stock is that? Don
  4. John is this what you are referring to? I believe they were made by recknagel years ago. I did not see them in the catalog I have. I think you can download their current catalog from the web if you can read the German. New England custom guns is the us importer of you are on this side of the pond. Don
  5. I make those. He is referring to the recessed type that is fit like a forend latch on a double. I will try to find some pics. I thought about making some but too many irons already in the fire. Maybe I need to get some info to Karl and see if he can do the engineering. Making them is the easy part. Don
  6. Look on dorleac websight. There should be some pics to give some ideas. Joel is the only one I ever seen make them. Don
  7. I opened up a mosin bolt for someone here. 45-70 I think. Can't remember for who or if they ever finished the project. Don
  8. I don't know the details but I guess he can use straight walled cartridges to deer hunt at his property. Where normally would be shotgun only. So hence deer rifle. Where I hunt we can use just about any rifle so I just use my little 06 or my win88 for walking. Don
  9. 45-70. Was going to open it up to 45-90, but my friend changed his mind. Don
  10. Kind of quite here so here's one I resently did some upgrades on. New sights, safety, scope and mounts, reworked guard, etc. Should be a nice little deer gun. Don
  11. Last I heard rod was handling it. Tanglewood here.
  12. Bill Jacobs. You can find him here as Clemson
  13. How some you want them? I will be making a batch in a couple months. Prototype is in the works. That one came from halmet. But the they don't adjust well. Mine will be rigby reproductions. Don
  14. Thanks I had to fit that to the existing cut out in the stock. First time I ever build the metal around an existing finished stock. But that stock was from a well known stock maker. Don
  15. Cocking piece mounted peep sight.
  16. Some said not much posted lately so I will share. Here's a nice little rifle I did the metal work on a few years ago for a friend. It came back to me recently to get a bolt peep and the bolt jeweled so I snapped a few pics while I was working on it. Don
  17. My iPhone loads it just fine. Haven't tried the pc Don
  18. FYI full screw strength is generally .47 x the diameter of the screw. Going deeper serves no real purpose if all the threads are good. Don
  19. Josh it all depends on the action and what you are trying to accomplish. I assume you were planning on using a prethreaded barrel? Measure the action, are the existing rings true to each other? If so you will find that they are more than likely true to the bore already. If so you should be able to get reasonable accuracy just fitting to the one shoulder.
  20. I agree with bill. If you can't cut a barrel tenon then why true the face? A true face is a moot point without proper tenon sizing in my opinion. Most receivers are true enough to use prethreaded barrels. If it is out of spec or you what to true for extreme accuracy then send the job out. Don
  21. Use a standard large ring stock and glass bed the action. If you tint the glass bed it won't be very noticeable. Other than that your are looking at a custom stock. Very few people have a pattern for it. If you want a real nice stock you can always sent it to be duplicated later. Don
  22. No they are famous for becoming unintentional takedowns. Used to common practice to turn the rings down too in the years gone past. If you ever measured the thread relief cut you will see why it isn't a good idea. Some actions did it right, some not so good. Don
  23. Jim still sells the pre98 kit. Brownells just quit carrying it. There is 2 wings the 98 Mauser and the pre98/1903 wing. The rest of the kit is just the fillers.
