    M48 stock

I got another M48 military stock that I am reworking. The problem is that the barre is hitting the left side of the chennel and not center. What can I do to fix this. spec.4
  2. carzngunz, I know what you are saying, but I would like to do my own work and I am learning as I go along the way. I did not want an 26" barrel. I wanted an 24" barrel because of my wife will be using one. and the other is an back up in case something happen to the primary ones. Since I can not weld on bolt handles yets, Low Tech will get them and they can recrown the barrels to 24-3/16" with an recess crown of 3/16 to protect the muzzle. So you see, I had no problems doing the weld up, becuase still it would have been cut off in the long run. And I learn how to chamber an rifle, or I would like to say two rifle. spec.4
  3. z1r, I am not set up for recrown yet, when I send the barrel action out to Low Tech to have an new bolt handle put on I will have them recrown the barrel. Looking to have an target crown put back on. Thanks spec.4
  4. I have gotten the barrels short chamber, had 0.02" removed from the shoulder. Then I recut the welded ends of by 1/2", then I clean up the end using an file. Barrel will be shorten to 26-3/16, then recess the crown to 3/16 deep. I only paid $23.00 to have it done. $20.00 for the shop and an $3.00 tip for doing it for me. Only had $23.00 on me. First rifle is almost done and looking for an ATI stock for the 2nd barrel action. I would like to thank everyone including Z1R for all their advise and help. spec.4
  5. I have set two of my barrel after finally getting them short chamber. I did not use an barrel vise, but did used my reg. vise that had an pipe holder. I put the wrench at an 3'oclock and then I raise it up and throw it down and tap it with an rubber mallet. I can not unscrew it by my bare hands. I did cut the barrel to open it up again. spec.4

    ATI stock

HRC, thanks for letting me know, I have will have an extra m48 that has an PH barrel on and was thinking of that stock. Thinking of putting an Rino-liner on it to give it an texture look and feel. As for the barrel channel, why don't you use an cheap epoxy to almost fill it up then use the bedding. You may want to get the one for plastic, you might need an few but do only 1 at an time, cuase it does get hot. I fix an crack shelf in the feg and it is still holding. To much beer. spec.4

  9. z1r, The chambers is to long and need to be shorten by .02" and the barrels will be cut down to 24-1/4" and then beadblasted then slow rust blue. Well one will be the other will have an bake on finish. S.S. color. Thanks for the replies, I guess there is no wrong way off doing it. spec.4
  10. Ok, I have two PH barrel that I am using for projects. I have an machine shop that will turn them down, but they said that I have to weld the muzzle up for insurance reason, not an problem. The barrel will be recrown at 24" My question is that welding on the muzzle will damage the whole barrel? Thanks spec.4
  11. I just received my new spring kit that will fit 98/M48 action from Falcon Arms. They look great and I could not wait so I put on kit into the back up rifle and am very impressed. The kit replace the striker, sear, bolt sleeve and floor plate stop springs. The following info is his address and name. www.falconarms.com they take visa, mastercard and discover 1-866-443-2526
  12. Thanks Z1R, I will keep that in mind when doing the receiver. And thanks everyone for your impt. Wife told me that she also stop by Dick's and pick up three set of weaver scope mount 45 and 46, and stop at the auto store and pick up the anti-seize lubricant. She also stop by the gun shop and was told that my smith has pass away about three months ago. She want to know if he can help me with the barrel and bolt handles. I know that he was going to die, but something else took, an blood clot busted in is brain. He had help me out many time even when I did not have the cash to pay him, he knew that I was good for it. My wife told me that he wife is selling ofs his tools and was told to have me call her about his lathe and mill. I guess I do that first thing Monday morning. spec.4
  13. Ok, I am almost home from an two week run out west and back to the east coast. My wife informed me that she had bought an wheeler d&t fixture, taken my barrel to an machine shop and lap the lugs and bolt face on three of my action. God, I have an great wife. , yes she has an sister, but you don't want her, unless you are an sucker and 1/2. Questions: When drilling and tapping for an scope mount base on an yugo m48, I was told to use the #2 plate for the rear. Is this right? Some one said that if I am using an two pcs scope mount, I need the #2 plate because I can move it foward more. How many receiver can I do with the drill and tap bite that is given with kit, provide that I do not brake them? where can I drill on the front ring, in front of the bolt lug shoulder? Thanks spec.4
  14. Ok guys getting ready to set my first barrel on the receiver. Need to know how much pressure to put on the barrel to set it and do I need to put any thing on the thread to keep it from locking or damaging the threads on the receiver or barrel? Thanks spec.4
  15. Not trying to be an smart a$$, but do you have this in writting. I would not do any thing till I have it in writting from the BATF. spec.4
