  1. Its probably the best shooting AK I've ever shot. I think its the extra weight, and the improved trigger.
  2. Just finished this too. If it looks dirty it is, been trying to fit a new holster to it, so there is leather junk all over it, its not rust. Started off as a 7 1/2" i traded a p22 for. All new Powers internals, 2# 7oz no take up trigger. Cut barrel down to 4 5/8" and re crowned. Wanted a fiber optic front sight so I made a new base to accept William's or Marble's sights. Bead blasted frame and barrel. Still have to polish cylinder, gate, and ejector housing. The only thing I would do different is to remove the warning label while I had the barrel out. Now its time to make a new rear sight to match.
  3. heres some finished pics guys I got the trigger finished to, its just like a single stage AR now, less than 1/8" travel and reset in an AK!! basically just copied the red star adjustable trigger, and fitted the hook. wrapped left side of the folding stock with para cord, feels better on cheek weld, but I think it would rub you raw if you shoot a bunch. At least it looks cool. the last 2 show something I started doing on my stamped AKs. I anneal the trigger and hammer pins, drill, tap, and heat treat them again. lil bit of blue loctite and no more sheperds hook, e-clips, or plates. it also will help hold the right side of the pins if your stamped reciever isnt exactly perfect.
  4. I'm finishing up my M64 build. Its the first Yugoslavian built AK, looks like a M70 underfolder but its barrel is threaded into the reciever. I took it on trade a while back as a M70 to convert to .308. since it was in such good shape and not as prolific I decided to rebiuld it. I rebuilt it using some replacement side plates I made. like the ones VZ58 sells (I was just to broke so I made mine). so know I have a slick MILLED underfolder. with only $130 or so invested not counting my time, I think I'm way ahead on this one. oh and i added a bolt holder in my safety, just because. just need to clean it up, bead blast, and refinish. Wrap the left stock leg with para cord and add a piece of picatinny to the rear sight for one of my pistol scopes. sorry for the crappy phone pics
  5. One of my labs ate about 2 big handfulss of gravel one time. we had cooked a hog and the grease drained on the rocks. fortunately he passed all of them, but he did lived at the vet for a week eating McDonalds cheese burgers till he passed them all. We had a great vet and the cheese burgers were all he would eat.
  6. I have been doing some looking lately too. Wherever I found an opinion on McGowen it has been a glowing recomendation. I will be ordering one as soon as funds allow.
  7. stir fry I'd say olive oil but im not a doc.
  8. Looks like everything will be out of the way when you pull the bolt back to remove it.
  9. Not sure that i have ever seen one before but i like it, looks good.
  10. mike that looks great! halfmoon bolt handle? is that a brand name? i really like the way it looks.
  11. check a couple of these links to the home gunsmith forums they should help some http://www.homegunsmith.com/cgi-bin/ib3/ik...947;hl=cstol338 http://www.homegunsmith.com/cgi-bin/ib3/ik...947;hl=cstol338 theres a lot more there if you search some and here is a PDF of some of the same type stuff post_71_69454_Pete_Allen_Boxlock_Action_Muzzleloader.pdf
  12. I hope you don't mind but i copied this and sent it to my mother. her youth group at church adopts several service men without families throughout the year. she assured me he would have a package on the way by Christmas.
  13. well they were 7x57 carbine barrels and they were short but i dont remeber exactly how long, i think they were for brazilians i know they are LR threads

i vote 9.3x62 for the COOL factor
  17. anything you ever wanted to know about long range .22 rimfire here and a lot of stuff i can't afford
  18. i've built a dozen or so using M6 grade 8 button heads. i used m6 because that was the biggest screw i could safely get into the rear trunion on the romi builds. contrary to what some people say i have never had any problems from any screw builds. i have a couple that have more than a thousand rounds through them without coming loose. all i used was blue loctite. hope that helps
  19. thanks guys Z the long stone = flat surface makes a lot of sense. i've got a couple longer soft stones that should work well
  20. Why wouldn't you lap them with lapping compound and the bolt to be used? Just seems like that would mate the raceways to the bolt lugs better than just stoning the raceways. what am I missing?
  21. So between centers, then just follow the first step (smallest diameter) up to a point, then taper out to full chamber diameter. like sporter barrels? Do you have any problem with military barrel warping or bending usually, as long as you are careful when turning?
  22. Ive done some searching and dont see much on the site about it. Am I missing something and it sjust so easy nobody post about it. Do you just chuck it up and make chips, or are there some tips and tricks we might need to know? thanks in advance bert
