  1. okay. question 2. what is the best grn bullet for these rifles? what seems to have the best accuracy, and what seems to have the best energy? whats a good powder to use for them? thank you so much guys, Merry Christmas, brian
  2. i was wanting to start reloading for my 1938 turk mauser, but i wanted to be safe and make sure what bore size i have spcifically. whats the best way to do this? i just dont want to blow myself up thanks a lot guys, and have a Merry Christmas. Brian.
  3. how do you like the 7-08 improved? can you share any benifits over the regular? i cant seem to find any info on the net. i know what an Ackley is, but i just was wondering if it were a real improvement, or a waste of time. thank alot, brian
  4. whats the going price for a 1903 and a 1903 A3, in OK condition. i seen a couple at a gun dealer out here, but he wanted 800.00 for the 1903's, and 1700.00 for the 1903 A3's. none were in spectacular condition, and one of the 1903 A3's was rebarrelsed..
  5. can someone school me on the finland mosin naugent? i cant seem to find very much info on the web. are these any differnt from russian made mosin naugents? how to tell a differance between finland mosins, and russian mosins? if any? thanks guys, brian pics would be cool also!!
  6. cant it be shipped (via UPS or soemthing like that) to a curio and relic card holder?? or to a certified FFL card holder? this is not considered a sporting rifle, but a collectable rifle , therefore wouldnt stand true to what the ATF said about the SPORTERIZATION of the rifle. but as a collectable.
  7. that looks like its going to be awsome. but.. it seems to be like its a really expensive way to go. but really cool though. brian. keep us posted.
  8. i am just trying to see if it would be worth the extra green. the octagon barrels are alomst more then the Hart barrels. but the do come in lengths up to 32 inches!!!!! think that an 8mm bullet is still accelerating at this point!!!
  9. i was looing through the midwayusa book and seen that there are octgon, both tappered and straight, blanks. i was just wondering if anyone has used an octagon barrel on one of there builds. will the octagon shape cause and harmonic issuse, and make the accuracy suffer?? just wondering, brian.
  10. can the mauser rifle be drilled and tapped for a scope without the use of a JIG? i was going to purchase a jig, but in seeing some other sites on the net, some guys dont use themn to scope mosins. another reason i was wondering about this is because i am also contomplating the use of a side mount system. the jig would not help me here. thanks guys, brian.
  11. i know that it is a 29 " barrel, and i believe that it is counterbored, but i am going to really take a better look at it this evening. i am using open sights right now, but am going to be mounting a scope shortly. i hope. i want to try one of those scope mounts that replace the rear sight, therefor, not having to drill and tap the reciever. one question i have though is, how do the rear sight replacing scope mounts compare to drilling and tapping?? i think that drilling and tapping would be more stronger, and less likely to have any play, but would be less costly in the long run. what do you guys think? brian
  12. no, its a turk 1938 k. kale. what does the counterboaring do? do you know how deep it usually was counterboard, so i can try to see if its what it really is. thanks for your help, brian
  13. as you guys know, i have re-done my mauser. while i have been shooting it with reminton cor-lokt's, i can get around 1.5 to 2" moa. i looked at the muzzel today, and while lookin at the muzzel crown, or lack of, i noticed that there is no rifle twist in the last 2 inches or so of the rifle, but it still shoots quiet accurate. if i cut the barrel back and re-crown, do you thin kthat i can get better accuracy? will i lose velocity? if i do take the barrel of, i would also like to recut the chamber. do you think this will yeild good results?? should i just leave it alone? thanks guys, brian
  14. awsome rebuild. i have been wondering how to make a calssy lookin rifle, but keep the nestalgia of the sweet lookin millitary rifle. awsome job. what caliber is it? brian
  15. i was looking at purchasing a new barrel for my turk mauser, but there is not really a large veriety of choices. theres not even an 8mm choice in aftermarket barrels, which brings me to my question. could i purchase an 8mm barrel for a large ring mauser, and re-thread the reciever threads on the barrel to small ring dimensions?? thanks, brian.
  16. got another question???. i went to put on the new safety-less shround, and thought, how is one to dissasemble the bolt assembly with the new shroud?? with the old mauser style, the safty holds the firing pin back so you can twist off the old shroud. how do i do it without the safety lever? any thoughts??? thanks alot, brian
  17. see how the rear site is.... this is how high it has to be to see strieght down the sites. if it lowerd down, i can only see the bottom of the front site! make any sense? brian
  18. its because of the raised, (monte carlo) style comb on the stock. ill see if i can get a pic.
  19. need help!!! i got my parts for my mausar. there so purdy..... but i ran into a problem. i put the action and barrel into the stock and installed the new allen head bolts, i wen t to look down the sites................................crap.............i cant get the sites to line up. the high comb on the stock is comfy, but... i have to raise the rear site to 600 yards to see down both sites. what can i do??? i have seen a couple scope mounts that install in place of the rear site, but is there anything that i can do that dosent cost a hundred dollars, and dosent involve stock alterations?/// need your help, brian.
  20. thank you very much. i cant wait to get her put togerther. ill post pics soon. brian
  21. i gots some new parts on the way from the heavenly MIDWAYUSA.com but, i have some questions. (i seem to always make things harder then they really are.) any-hoo's... i bought a shroud (american rifle works FN-style shroud) that eliminats the safety on top of the mauser. are these hard? the option said that it needed to be installed by a gunsmith, but i didnt know if that was just to take apart the bolt assembly. DONT FREET.... i did get new BOLD OPTIMA mauser trigger assembly with the safety on it. how are these to install? i know that i will have to inlet the new fajen stock i have, but thats all fine and dandy. i just want to make sure that every thing i do is safe, becasue i am dealing with the safety thanks alot for all your help, brian. ill post pics when i can. i have to find out how to do it first.
  22. yeah, im just playing around with the idea of a big, big bore, but dont know if ill do it or not. i dont plan on going to an african safarie in my liftime(though it would be awsome) i just dont see the need of a huge caliber huntin rifle for north american game. although. large caliber rifles are way cool!!! whats the best action to use when buildin a custom rifle? i think that teh turk i have is going to be a good starter for my first. and when i grow better at the work, then ill get into the more costly, better actions. i know that lots of guys out there say to use BAT or one of actions to build awsome guns, but... they all origonated from one desing. and i think that the mauser can make a killer accurate rifle. thanks guys, for all you help, and info. brian
  23. i was just wondering whats the biggest caliber cartridge that can be put into a mauser 98 action, and still be safe. even if loaded hot. what have you guys done that you really think is the ultimate rifle build? thanks guys, brian
  24. which one of the mauser rounds do you guys think is the best an d why?? just wondering, brian also, have seen a round thet is called the "6.5x57" would this round give any advantage over the 6.5x55 sweede round? i know that the case is probably different, but does it give any benifit?
